Most problem like 8.0 br will have to face 9.0 br or “uptier thingy” are cause by BR compression in the first place.
Still BR decompression isn’t only about increase only. there are a lot of discussion about this in the old-forum.

The A1A1 should go to 8.7 and the Type 74E should remain at 9.0. It’s that simple.
The Type 74E’s mobility does not justify placement at 9.0
The A1A1’s mobility is much stronger, but it doesn’t have a LRF / IR, and thus should also be 8.7
I mean at those BR. most APFSDS and some ATGM would lol pen both tanks anyway. It not like we have infantry running around shooting LAW or RPG-7 at your tank.
Unless some player design that shooting HEAT-FS at T-62M from the front would be a good idea.
So in my opinion both tank ain’t far apart. Even though T-62 got a slower reload and Meh gun depression (still better than T-72s tho)
If the T-62 couldn’t be downtiered then it would be fine at 8.7, but it can, so it has to be where it is.
The Type 74E doesn’t have this issue. It can be penetrated by world war 2 tanks, its problem is its LRF / round. These justify its BR placement at 8.7, not 9.0
T-62M armor are as much as T-55AM. Which sit on 8.7 br atm. But T-55AM has weaker APFSDS round that is.
Going by your statement T-62M would also go to 8.7

Tank to tank yeah it could sit at 8.7, but against HEAT-FS both tanks are basically immune and some 7.7 tanks only have access to HEAT-FS.
Russian doesn’t suffer from lineup potential and unlike the T-62M and the T-55AM-1 is a premium meaning its frequency in game is “less”.
It’s an issue of what it can face in a downtier similar to the MAUS.
Welp BR compression need to go or tune down. So in my opinion we shouldn’t mainly adjust BR base on the problem that Gaijin create.
It feel like band-aid solution.
Hence there isn’t a really major issue to me of the T-62M being 9.0 since Russia has 3 very capable tech tree “MBTs” at 8.7 but Germany doesn’t have a single one or in the case of this thread, Japan having only one.

welp T-62M BR shouldn’t be lock up at higher just because it already has 8.7 capable tank at previous BR. when others tank with similar capabilities are being pull down like you suggest. So if Type74E go down T-62M should go with it.

But yes as I said there’s no serious problem to moving it down besides full downtiers and the T-55AM-1 has the exact same issues but sits at 8.7

Chieftain Mk10 lacks the LRF but has armor.
OF-40 lacks the ammo, but has more speed.

T-62M-1 has a round almost as good as DM33, laser rangefinder, full stab, and armor.
Perfect at 9.0.
The Type 74(E) is below average speed for its BR range
M60, Magach, and Chieftain make up at least 4 of the 9.0 tanks.
74 is at least average.
The M60 / Magach variants are only 9.0 due to modernization modifications which make them heavily imbalanced in down tiers.
The Chieftan only has one 9.0 variant and has much different armor characteristics than the Type 74(E)
The Type 74(E) is not an average 9.0 tank, it has no modernization components, no composite armor, no upgraded engine for superb mobility, no outstanding features other than an above average penetrating round and a laser range finder which is common at 8.7
The Type 74(E) is an 8.7 tank, the only reason Gaijin believes it should be 9.0 is because it has a high penetrating APFSDS round. Using that excuse is not enough justification for destroying viable lineups. There are tanks at lower tiers with lolpen rounds, their characteristically slow / easily destroyed, just like the Type 74(E).
Every 8.7 tank in WT has inferior rounds, range finding, stability than Type 74.
