Title. Anyone who’s played it knows it doesn’t perform very well (to say the least) even in a full down tier.
Why did Gaijin decide to put it at 8.7?

It has a very good APFDS with great pen for 8.7, but then again the Magach 5 has DM 23 at 8.0
105 DM23, so only 337mm of penetration, not to mention the mobility of the Magach 5 is that of a M60A1
No stabilizer ?
Which is excellent for 8.0, the ZTZ59D1 has the same round at 8.3
Which also has a LRF and Stabilizer systems. Which also, it’s lighter and has more mobility at the cost of worse armor.
because it’s french :(
ERA, Laser rangefinder, Thermals, Full reverse gearbox, great zoom, a soft kill APS, and 360mm of penetration. This thing doesn’t suffer bro.
What I’m waiting for is to see when Gaijin fixes the Brenus armor, which in reality worked similarly to Kontakt 5, but in the game it works as a simple ERA. It’s been reported and accepted for years, but they haven’t fixed it.
The AMX 30 Bs (Which include the BRENUS) take a very unusual playstyle to do well with, but they’re far from bad tanks. Not having a stabilizer is crippling on some maps, don’t get me wrong, but if you play more defensively it doesn’t hold you back too badly. You have a combo of great mobility and great firepower with all the bells and whistles, including gen 1 thermals which can be handy.
The BRENUS can also be fun due to how it handles downtiers. The ERA can be useful against low caliber HEAT. BMP-1s, Raketens/USHs, AML-90s etc will sometimes struggle. And the softkill APS makes you effectively immune to all ATGM carriers and some IFVs, at least frontally.
That being said, you’re generally better off in the SK105. 4 second autoloader, slightly better round and high quality thermals, at the expense of a couple degrees of gun depression and a gimped 20mm.
Bro 105mm dm23/m111 is one of the most powerful ammunition in its respective br, there is nothing you cannot kill in one-hit, only the T-64/T-72 you have to aim a little, anything over 195mm angle pen is overkill in that br
And? That changes nothing because every tank has a round like that dawg…
That round is actually good, because it works all the way to even 11.0, I just recently decided to spade this goofy looking leopard and its first stage ammo is m111, you can tell by the amount of matches most kills were made by m111.
As a person who has spaded the AMX-30 BRENUS, I thought this post was going to advocate for raising the BR before I clicked on it.
yeah, brenus in no way is suffering
Did you not find yourself often get killed when your gun is still wobbly? I mean you will also often find yourself missing targets that drove pass because your gun hadn’t settle down lol
It has an APFSDS round over 50% better than that of T-55AMD, it has thermals, laser range finder, and rather good mobility.
I mean, I do, but overall the tank is fine. ERA makes for a good upgrade at 8.7, which is closer to prime HEAT BRs than most other tanks with ERA. I don’t understand why the topic is about the AMX-30 B2 BRENUS, when the inferior base B2 version is at the same BR.
As othrs have said the only isssue with it is the lack of stabiliser at a br where everyone else has it. The tank slaps I have slmost gotten a nuke with it a couple times. Sadly always a bit off but the tank dies well when played right. I will admit it does suffer in cqb maps.,
This is the same old story, gaijin and his laziness when it comes to adding and balancing vehicles. They could leave the AMX-30B2 at Br 8.3 or 8.7 as is, and give the AMX-30 Brenus the real protection of its ERA and add the OFL 105 G2 while it is at Br 9.0.
PD:Another curious thing that I’m almost sure gaijin has not implemented (nor will ever do). That’s a photo of the cut of an APDS-FS OFL 105 F1.
