Why is splash dmg a thing still?

i love multipathing and then i get splashed and then i die like why is it still a thing when the multipath is so low? like the trees are over 150 feet tall and now i have to deal with splash dmg? thats so dumb

Breaking: Missile explodes when hitting ground, shrapnel goes everywhere.

This is an issue, and it should be fixed. Also learn to not rely fully on multipathing unless you are in a stock aircraft.

If you get splashed while Multipathing…you aint doing it right
The missiles should hit way before you or way after you depending where the missile its coming from
Multipathing i never had issues with shrapnel so…

Why you want that feature removed anyway?Thats how missiles works

Let this be a lesson in not depending on just multipathing to defend against radar missiles.

Pro tip: multipathing won’t work all the time on high explosive missiles like R-77/R-77-1/R-27E (and AAM-3/4 iirc?) or PL-12.

Multipathing works well with many missiles from my point of view

Survived without damage most of the missiles at 14.0

You know that AIM-54s are front-aspect only, right?
Chaffs are a thing
Just turn away from the missile until it’s on your rear and deploy chaff, 2-3 is enough to drop almost any SARH/ARH.

If you’re letting the F-14’s missiles (whether that be AIM-54 or Fakour) get close enough to you for shrapnel to hit you when it hits dirt then that’s on you. All you have to do is turn 90 and drop 1-2 chaff and turn away. They’re by far the easiest ARH to dodge (both missile and splash).

Until it doesn’t (and judging from your ingame performance in the only top tier jet you have, that’s often).

It is very luck based and random in my experience. I’ve had instances of AIM-120 hitting the ground while I was below 30 meters and destroying my vertical stabilizer making me crash. And then I’ve had instances of multi-path-ing AIM-54 and Fakour-90 and not getting a single bit of damage despite them having a warhead almost 6 times bigger than AIM-120.

So you want every missile to be impact fuse and to do no damage?

The better changes to ask for:

  • More realistic / detailed damage models that might change what kind of damage a “distant” explosion would do
  • More realistic shrapnel patterns for missiles, including directional charges (though those dont apply to most missiles in game) . I do also think that blast patterns could be modeled differently when impacting terrain, which might change things, especially when impact water.

Though inversly, I also want to see MP height reduced to IRL levels too as they are currently way too high. Learn to notch or kinematically defeat missiles. MP is highly situational and shouldn’t be exploited by everyone who cant be bothered to do anything other than fly in straight lines
