Ammo boxes take a year to set up and another year to reload, and you have to stand still the whole time.
At least for those distances, you would have to fly into range for a moment.
You can point lock further. We are more talking about firing them with a vehicle lock.
You literally don’t play CAS.

From 3-4km away Stinger is quite a small threat if you don’t go afk.

I’ve got track lock from ~6km away and at those ranges Stinger is pretty much useless.
You could also launch from 7km away on stationary targets, as they’re very unlikely to move far enough to get out of the seeker’s FoV in time.

I’ve used Stinger systems quite a bit and most of the aware planes had no issues dodging it from that far out.
Yes, and at that range even Strela is pretty much outmatched, let alone vehicles carrying Stingers.
If people that are carrying TV missiles are frequently shot down by Stingers, I think they carry most of the blame themselves.
The a7 struggles with dodging.
At least with stuff like the a10/su25, you get enough flares to not worry.

SANTAL is 9.3 with a radar though, plus more missiles, more missiles RTF, and generally better missiles. 9.7 is a BR with primarily gun-missile SPAA, there’s even the ZSU, PZG, and Machbet at 9.3 with radar, MANPADs, and guns.
Mistrals are dogcrap, actually worse than Stingers.

How so? Mistrals have higher G load, larger uncaged seeker angle, 3x larger explosive mass, higher top speed, larger proximity radius, shorter guidance delay, lower drag coefficient. Do you think it’s worse because just the slightly larger seeker fov? The moderately lower dV?

You’ll get what I’m talking about when you try it out.
At any real distance Stinger will maneuver better and you’ll actually know what to expect from a certain launch.
