It would just remain inferior to the Ki-83 in most regards at 6.0 even with an airspawn, it would probably be mid at 5.3.
It turns great at high speed but lacks energy retention and turns poorly at dogfighting speeds. Its climb rate is absolute trash at 6.0 too. Top speed is good at higher altitudes only.
The poor climb rate will dictate your match in a very bad way more often than not. Can’t really BnZ or run away when almost everything else comfortably outclimbs you at any altitude and runs you down at lower altitudes
Nah mate, the N1K1-Ja is so much worse than the K2s its not even funny. Hence my BR recommendation being what it is. Now I could wager 4.7 tops if we were able to remove the forced wing gunpods which are the main source of the worse performance.
unlike Ki-83 it doesn’t take 3 business days to roll
Climbs faster, turns better, performs better up high. Only downside is being a little slower.
would be better as a separate vehicle
Unlike the J7W it doesn’t take a month to climb and accelerate
half the enemy team in any given match doesn’t climb anyway lol, the bar to be above average is underground
fair enough but if were going there why complain about anything being overtiered
I flew the J7W1 and it always seemed to roll fine - the Ki-83 meanwhile had great engines but stiffened up so much at even the speeds it can attain in level flight to where if people don’t stall out under you there isn’t all that much you can do them when they can just nose down and run away all day. Also the Ki-83’s rudder sucks at higher speeds too.
Strange how I had the exact opposite impression of the N1K1-Ja being worse at everything.
Maybe I guess but tbfh we don’t need more of these things. Japan has for the most part enough props.
Another case of modules needing to be added to some are ones such as “J2M3a Mod.” which would replace the outer wing Type 99 Model 1 guns with Type 99 Model 2s, so the plane has 4 guns with the same velocity. The J2M5 is missing the same.
I think it was over on the N1K2 cope thread I put the most important aspects of the two on a graph, and aside from top speed and acceleration near top speed the N1K1-J always won.
Nowhere near enough. And the last TT addition to them was back in 2021 with the A6M5 Hei. There’s a lot that can be added.
They would go to an even higher BR lol
this is why they’d be better off as separate planes too, in a folder.
What is practical and unique to be added that would fill performance niches the existing planes don’t already fill? Obviously I know about the A6M8s (the final Zeroes), possibly other upgraded versions of the Reppu, and the R2Y1 (perhaps fudged a bit to carry some kind of guns) but beyond those my memories draw ablank.
Mind you I am just talking props. If we’re talking jets then the J7W2 and Ki-201 are obvious must-haves.
If people insist on turnfighting against them that’s on them. I remember spading the Yak-3U and winning against a J2M3, left me at a loss for words.
You can just go to the suggestions page to see.
But my personal top picks:
Ki-51 for low tier CAS as an in-between Ki-10 and D4Ys. E16A2 as a heavily armed floatplane. S1A1 as new highest night fighter, with the ability to tilt its nose guns upwards in flight. Newer improved bombers like H8K4 and G4M3.
Later models of fighters we have like N1K3-J, N1K4-J, and N1K5-J; Ki-44-III; A6M8; Ki-102 Hei.
Interim models we’re missing like Ki-44-II Ko; N1K1-J Otsu and Hei.
Prototypes, field modifications, and one-offs like Ki-116, Ki-64, J2M2 and A6M3 w/ 30mm cannons, Ki-84 prototypes, Ki-44 w/ contra-rotating propellers, A6M6/7 with removed cannons.
As well as countless night fighters and night fighter conversions, which are not limited to the common types that are only really usable at low tier, but many are based on existing fighters:

J7W2 design was not explored; Ki-201 is valid, as is R2Y2 V1 - if gaijin chose to go that way.
Yak-3U vs J2M3 should almost always result in 3U winning, it is an extremely one-sided fight.
I had thought the entire point of the J7W was to eventually install a jet engine, and that a prop was fitted initially to make sure the airframe worked and flew well. Much like was done with the R2Y1.
But thank you for all the others, I will need to look into those.
J7W1 was designed in that way to reduce drag. The possibility of installing a jet engine was known, but the piston-engine version was still solidly in development and no plans were made for that conversion.
As for R2Y1 it is a different story. The plane itself was designed as a long range, high altitude, high speed recon aircraft with no concern for jet engine conversions. However during construction of the first aircraft some territory was lost and there was no need for it anymore so all others were cancelled.
Then it was repurposed as a jet-powered attacker since its huge fuselage would have space for the fuel necessary for the fuel-hungry jet engines in development then, where the engines used to be. It is believed R2Y2 was in construction at the end of the war, and the Ne-330 jet engines that only it would use were built and tested. Armament is unknown but 1000kg were alotted for it.
Ki-201 is in a similar situation, however more information is known about it.
Is it even known what jet engine the J7W2 would have used, or did it literally not even get that far? Would it have been one of what the Kikka is currently using?
Yes I have of course heard how it was initially meant to be an unarmed scout plane bomber not unlike the Arado 234B-2. But if you implemented it that way it would be mostly dead-on-arrival or an occasional “oh, that exists” you see once in a while. I’d sure play it but most people wouldn’t.
From what I gather the Ki-201 is an Me-262 lookalike or similar enough. Though I forget what engines that was supposed to get nor if the wings were the same or not.
They knew the conversion would be relatively straight forward, but it didn’t get much consideration at all. Kikka’s engine is far too weak and would need at least two, it’s more likely it would receive one of the larger ones in development like Ne-330, also for a matter of weight balance.
I wouldn’t. As it stands there’s no reason or role to add the R2Y1. Neat plane but needs a lot to change in-game to be viable.
Mostly. Ne-130 or Ne-230 engines. There’s a suggestion for it.
