Because it is slow
Its not because its slow, or entirely. People (like me when I first bought it) think its some death machine but you lose every single face 2 face encounter in it, you have to flank, like pretty much any auto cannon vic. Problem is ya mobility isn’t great, but its not terrible. The bigger problem is because its so tall, and has awful gun depression, you can’t just sit behind any hill, use 3rd person/binos find a target pop out and kill them because by the time you get your gun on target you have to crest the entire hill and you are dead meat. You have to go look for weird spots were you can flank, also be behind cover, but have a spot you can fire from without exposing too much, but you always expose more of your vic than someone with better depression+profile, so there is always more risk involved.
Usually I have to find a spot I can move forward past a hill’s edge to pop out take my shots and then reverse into cover back behind that hill, finding an actual hull down spot for a 5 degree depression tank is not easy, and instead of just exposing the top part of your tank, my entire half front hull is basically visible when doing this.
Real question is, is this even realistic? Why are some missile carriers subjected to having to stop?
Because all other Russian tanks are above their BR and it’s a money trap, simple as that.
And it could easily be argued that the extra modules are a buff xd
The “2c38” hasnt been added yet
Another topic about the 2"S"38 saying how OP it is? Most of those who say this have not even used or owned the 2S38, it has extremely low survivability, any shot you fire at it will disable the entire vehicle because of the modules, it takes a long time to reach its maximum speed, and it is quite limited on some terrains due to the lack of gun depression, I strongly recommend that those who give it the title “OP” buy it and see if it really is as you say, before coming to the forum to complain about it every day.
Because people that don’t play russia or china have no clue what it means to play with bad gun depression, or reverse, or general mobility/gun handling. Because when you don’t play them, all you can see is them killing you or your shots getting snailed etc.
BMD4 is like the only modern russian light tank I really enjoyed because it has the hydro suspension.
Doing something like this
https://files.catbox.moe/kop16q.mp4
Is literally impossible in the 2s38. You would not have depression for this hull down behind the hill, you would have to drive over the hill completely to take any of these shots. I honestly think if the 2s38 had the suspension the BMD does it would easily be 11.0+ material, not even a question. There is literally zero way to take a shot at someone with the 2s38 without exposing your hull aside from a very few specific spots or extreme long range maps and honestly I have like 500+ games in it and I can’t even name 1 of these spots. Anything with more than 8 degrees of gun depression has basically the entire map open to them to play safe behind if they want to.
Meanwhile the HSTVL has 17 freaking degrees and can basically shoot at people with like an inch of the turret exposed, but that doesn’t matter apparently, and it sucks and the 2s38 should be 11.7 instead.
It’s obvious, just look at their stats and accounts and you’ll see that most of them have never touched high-tier Russian vehicles, they simply wouldn’t have the extraordinary skill to use Russian vehicles, for them it’s very easy to complain because they died to a T80BVM or T90M then why their shots didn’t penetrate or destroy them, typical
The T 80 U is bad in all of those except for mobility and it’s still one of Warthunder’s best MBTs.
