Hi Gaijin, just wanna make an constructive criticism here, I have been playing War Thunder for almost the entirety of it’s existence, it has grew with me since I was in High School. I have mostly played as a premium player, I just realized that I have a habit of not buying any vehicles even though I really like them, I generally have to wait until any of the sales that put all vehicles at 50 percent off. Simply because I cannot afford them!
I play mostly high tier air battles now days, so you are basically forced to expert your crew if you want to make an 90 degree turn without blacking out. And those cost over 1 mil per pop. Without discount 1+1+.5 that is almost 2.5 mil of silver lions per vehicles. It got so bad that anything that is not top tier like the f8e I just skip the expert crew in general.
I know I might sound like I am bitching, but lets be fair, I am literally paying to play, I think its more fair if I don’t have to worry about the silver lion problem if I AM PAYING!
Then I think about it more, do none premium players have it worse? Then I realized that as they do get less silver lions per battle, they also get way less research points. Turns out WE as PAYING PLAYERs have literally the same issue as the non paying players, sometimes its even worse.
At this point in time, don’t you think it is little too ridiculous? Because there is only 2 ways that you can go positive in this game, either researched everything, and you are still playing that 1 nation wasting your rp, or you must play with premium and premium vehicles. However that just puts a sour taste in my mouth because I am a completionist, I like to spade the vehicles that I like, so I tend to play those premiums as less as possible.
I would like to hear everyone else’s thought on the silver lion grind…
I don’t know if air is that different from ground, because no matter what I do, I just accumulate more and more SL.
I mean, how the heck can you lose SL with a premium account?
ARB prints SL. I spam my F8U-2 on basically suicide runs to make SL.
ASB burns SL.
ASB has an upper limit on how much SL/min you can earn that you can never exceed. For rank V jets without premium, you regularly end up with max SL reward for 15 minute cycle around 19-24K and spawn cost (not repair, but first spawn!) of 12-17.7K. The Horten is like 17.7k spawn and 19.7k max reward. You only receive this max reward if you survive the full 15 minute cycle and land safely afterwards. To earn maximum reward (0.92 of stat card), you must get 1050 score (excess score is wasted). At 600 score, you get 0.86 of the reward and at 400 score 0.75. 800 is 0.90. If you die before the 15 minutes, you only get sl/min up to time alive times 0.8 since you didnt land.
It’s a really messed up system that actively disincentivizes dogfighting and pvp. It’s OK at prop tiers because spawn cost is 3K, max reward is like 9K meaning it’s hard not to break even.
Exactly. It was always so weird to me, ppl that buy high level premium machine and then research the entire TT, bro, you just paid to skip content and play arguably less fun BR
I like history, engineering, I tend to play and spade almost everything. I always use premium and I always buy new vehicles on major SL discounts, and I still need to grind on premium planes regularly if I want to spade and research any game top tier vehicles. It’s really not OK.
Sl starvation has sent millions of people away from this game, I’m certain of it. But we all know why Gaijin does this. Greed and because it works.
I’ve never had to SL grind in War Thunder, I just constantly have more SL than I use as I play the game.
I avoid using vehicles with talismans as I’d prefer to have fun and make SL at the same time.
I’m sitting on 35,700,000 SL after my purchases recently, and that’ll go back up to 40,000,000 in no time.
And that’s with all 10 tech trees of air completed, 6 ground tech trees completed.
TL;DR: Play what you like, don’t use talismans.
@Flogger_cbs post claiming that giving millions of SL in rewards is bad… lol
No, what’s bad advice is encouraging talismans.
Premium account is best value.
Premium vehicles is 2nd best value.
Everything else is trash.
Talismans only increase RP, not SL.
Talismans are the easiest mistake people put themselves into. They’ll spend $500 on talismans yet could’ve purchased 10 premium vehicles instead, or 12 years of premium account time.
Early on SL was an issue because i was grinding through a tree and wanted to progress as quickly as possible. im still grinding out a few things but i really dont have any SL issues since we got the premium time perk of you will never go below 0 SL in a match. So you never loose SL if your a premium time player.
I dont play as much as i use to but the only reason i started grinding for sl was for the winter event trying to get free vehicles with the SL loot boxes. Got up to 9 mill then got down to 1mill and already back up to just under 2 mill. Thats after buying the su-34, Mig-29SMT, and F-15C due to the 50% sl sale.
I play a lot of different BR’s as it can be fun to slow down from top tier with the older and slower equipment, and i do better since i understand the maps and vehicles more. made 100k sl with a rank 3 premium tank i haven’t touched in a long time. I really dont see any issues making SL in the game.
P.S I didnt win nothing but a sticker from the snow globes :(
You earn more silver lions and research points based on your performance.
Before Rank IV it is near impossible to lose silver lions when dying due to the introduction of reduced repair costs depending on time spent in match.
At present I would consider Rank IV-V the hardest to go positive in without possessing strong skill due to the slow nature of most tanks at this tier forcing you to spend longer in a match thus increasing your repair costs.
Since the economy changes a summer+ ago the game’s silver lion intake has been enough for me that I’ve been able to crew train any vehicle line up that I intend to play. I would recommend always researching based on lineups rather than singular vehicles, it’s what the game is balanced around. Time spent in match heavily outweighs personal performance.
Research is hit or miss, it can be quite a grind but it can also be accelerated depending entirely on the vehicle’s own performance, your personal performance, and as you mention your willingness to spend $$$. Game mode also matters as Air RB sports the fastest research in the game while Ground RB can be rather slow if you’re not averaging 2k score games.
Overall War Thunder’s economy is still better than it was 2+ years ago and I have no reason to majorly complain. Some people would like the grind to be accelerated even faster and that’s a fine opinion to have but at some point you need to reconcile whether you enjoy playing the game or whether you just want to play a specific vehicle. If it’s the latter I would recommend playing a more simulator focused game as War Thunder is not the place for such things to be done justice.
Did you finish grinding a nation and kept on playing it? When I dont have anything to research, I will usually move on to a different tech tree. therefore, I always have new vehicles to purchase.
I stopped using talisman a long time ago, I am guessing that you kept on playing the techtree that you finished grinding from time to time? If thats the case it makes sense because you wouldnt have to pay for new vehicles and their expert qualification…
Yeah I know, I have really good KD like 4 to 1 in some meta planes, and usually close to 2 to 1 if not better in some not so meta planes, so I would consider myself a good player. Even still I am not making silver lions…
But yeah, my main point is that if I am paying why can’t I choose the way I wanna play? I don’t want to just play the most meta vehicles and just kept playing that one nation so that the only thing I would have to pay is repair cost (after grinding out the entire tree). Obviously I would go positive.
But I wanna try everything, spade all the fighters and attackers that I like from every nation. In that case I’m constantly paying for modification cost (top tier modification is actually surprisingly expensive), buying vehicles, and their crew qualification because its literally impossible when you have none expert crew in top tier.
I’ll play favorite vehicles regardless.
How I see War Thunder:
6 major game modes: Naval, ground arcade, ground realistic, air arcade-realistic-sim.
Heli PVE as alternative.
I’ll play the most interesting for me at the time, and vehicles I like regardless of their BR or my grind.
Yeah, I’ll still grind and REALLY fast, but I’ll also play the Shermans again.
It’s mostly just knowledge of making SL while grinding that has helped me along though.
Now fly the F2H-2 Banshee and only do air-to-air combat.
Then fly the Ho 229 Horten and only do air to air combat.
Then fly the F80C shooting star and only do air to air combat.
Then fly the Me262 (any variant, but I did the math for the 7.0) and only do air to air combat.
Also make sure you’re fighting against enemies on peer skill level rather than farming zombers or new players to sim. You know, people who can kill you back. (going to be hard to find with early jets because the costs are so absurd, people leave after 2 deaths and you got nothing to do afterwards if you want pvp).
Spoilers:
Horton: 17.4k to spawn, makes 1430/min so 0.92x15x1430 = 19.7K. You make 2.3K in your first 15 minutes max assuming full score and landing.
Now you’ve gotta be smart about it imo. If ur looking to grind sl in any of the mentioned planes its possible ofcourse but won’t get you a lot.
Playing sim is a privilege with how abandoned the gamemode is and flying your favorite aircraft in sim should not be to seek rewards but rather the pure enjoyment :)
Anywho, offtopic. Just had to share the screenshots for laughs! Lol
