Yeah I get playing helicopters is rough, you really have to be good at using terrain at 11.3. And spawning on the close helipad is suicide on some maps. Basically as soon as you hear the radar ping you have to go behind cover and then try to sneak up using terrain masking which is not possible on all maps. Hopefully it will be better balanced in the future when more stealth features are considered.
IRL RCS is pretty complicated and depends on a load of factors, a full representation of it in-game isn’t feasible – plus we don’t really know how Gaijin implemented it.
From what the community could gather, there’s a base number that seems to be wingspan/main rotor diameter, and if you’re a F117/Comanche you get three multipliers to decrease that base value (those we know from files) depending on exposed angle.
Since SPAAs and aircraft mention radar bands, and SPAA even have distinct search/track bands (Pantsir for instance seaches in F band, locks in K), there should be another hidden multiplier on their equations, but we also don’t have access to that.
There’s an article or doc somewhere saying the RAH66 has 663x less RCS than a AH64, or something to that effect, but be careful with that. The radar equation IRL is a FOURTH root equation, and RCS is inside that root!
Suppose you want to get 1/10 the detection distance on your stealth aircraft, then you need 1/10000 (ten thousand, yes) smaller RCS, but a RCS smaller by 663x makes for a distance factor of 663 ^ 1/4 ≈ 5.1
Let’s say a Pantsir can find a AH64 at 40km distance (I dunno if this is true in-game, it’s just an example), then 40km/5.1 = 7.84km detection range for the RAH66!
It’s not using helicopters. I am fine with others. It’s this helicopter. I think I was clear about that. This helicopter is specifically weak in all ways at it’s BR.
Which is far shorter than engagement ranges and so short that they see you above your furthest heli pad. The game doesn’t have the modes where this would be useful.
Yes, that’s a generally agreed point for WT: maps are too small/some spawn points should be further away. The F117 is affected by this too (plus people rarely play night maps, another factor of stealth doctrine), and 5th gens probably will be as well.
What I meant was that it’s a rough BR to play helicopters in, if you read the context past the first 7 words it would be clear.
You’d be surprised
There were a total of 0 production RAH-66’s
Are you inferring the capabilities of the test helicopters or the optional modifications of the production ones?
Plenty of prototype vehicles have weapons or equipment that they were capable of having but never introduced in the testing phases.
We even have ships that have cannons that were never put on the ships.
If they were capable of fielding the flare dispensers like the documents say, they were and should be.
Is there an issue giving the RAH-66 countermeasures?
Both, you jumped back into the thread without reading what had been added in the mean time. It is clear that neither prototype or production was ever intended to carry 1980 era countermeasures, instead the plan was to rely on stealth until the day where stealth was surpassed and then get the then in development ATIRCM a DIRCM and radar jamming. So there were future contingency plans but it was intended to be countermeasure less in production.
It already has a feature that had been removed from production plans, the stinger integration, those had been cut before the program was canceled.
So the most realistic representation of the helicopter and it’s features is no countermeasures, other than the stealth design. And I am more of a LARP player, I like to study and use realistic tactics instead or mad dashing hoping RNG gives me a kill or two. I am well aware that there are a few fantasy designs in WT for balance sake but still the overwhelming majority are implemented in a realistic way with the features they had/have.
No I read what you posted and you misinterpreted things.
“Design Accomodates Active Countermeasures”
From your own post means it can have them equipped but depending on mission or purchase it may not have them equipped.
This from the company itself saying it is capable combined with the other sources referencing an optional M-130 Countermeasure Dispenser is a clear line showing that it was planned by the company, that is the model of countermeasure dispenser but it was never put on the test helis because the program was canceled.

You ignore the fact it says “MAY” in this post

You ignore the fact it says “is not currently required”
![]()
The language in those indicates it is capable but not REQUIRED and MAY be used or added later.
I did not misinterpret. It clearly says “If threat technology neutralizes the LO, there are space weight and configuration provisions for SIRFC and ATIRCM.” It doesn’t say chaff and flares.
So why doesn’t it have IRCM? It is at 11.3, everything has IRCM, and there is justifiable excuse and proof it could carry it.
ATIRCM is a DIRCM that was in development at the time, with the first hardware only ready 2 years after after the Comanche was canceled, and it was first fielded 5 years after. Giving it ATIRCM would move it to BR ~13 would be my guess.
