I wouldn’t say so. Its my most played tank if you sort by kills and I don’t really think its OP. Quite strong? Yes. OP? Nah.
It only bounces APDS, everything else cleans your armor except for the turret. Not to mention 35mm SPAA can overpressure your lower side/UFP or 1 tap you through cupola. The reload is rather poor for the BR, but the shell is great. Armor, as I said, is decent. The mobility on it is good for a “heavy” tank but its still outpaced by most of what you face.
In my limited SQB experience I did not encounter this very much, and it is also a vastly different gamemode to GRB.
Not anymore unfortunately. They nuked its bomb survivability and now its pretty much the same as normal MBTs.
Belt velocity/accuracy is largely calculated by the highest velocity round in the belt, and AP/DS has far better ballistics than HE style rounds. APDS also has far better ballistics than AP. There is your answer.
Personally I don’t have trouble killing them cuz as the guy above said about the 35mm auto cannon, I abuse the living crap out of xm246 and object 279 is one of the victims
But if I bring out a normal tank at these BR, I struggle to kill the object 279
Cant comment on this…I never fought 279 since I dont play that BR at all…saw it once though in Abrams when someone brought it up…didnt end well for him
Yea I guess it can stay at 9.0 cuz it did receive a few amor changes and wasn’t as OP as it first came out. On release, the armor were near impossible to pen and kept bouncing shots and immune to bomb up to like 1000lb+? Right now it’s a bit easier to kill but its still a very strong tank by itself
I have a custom battle link that is a shooting range and one of the target is the object 279. I can give you the link if you want, it’s an amazing shooting range and it helped me learn weak spots of commonly faced tanks in many BR brackets.
I believe it came out at like 8.3 or something, and it was insanely OP, but it got moved up not too long after that.
If I remember correctly, it was the first tank with volumetric armor modelled, and its why the armor is such a buggy mess, and probably why it tanked bombs so well.
There’s also this (not my clip, but it’s happened to me)
I’ve been playing my 279 for the past couple of weeks and unless the bomb has enough penetration power to pen the angled armor on the sides/rear, you’re surviving it. I survived 3 1,000lb bombs from an Alpha Jet that landed maybe 6-8ft away from me. What you can’t survive are rockets. Rockets chew through the 279 like wet tissue paper because the armor relies on the angling to be effective.
Thats a good argument, and i believe it is at least logial to improve hull armor when you upgrade the overall armor. However, thats what i was talking about. There is nothing concrete, even just something simply said by US govt or General Dynamics. So thats the reason they dont get any upgrades
