Why do so many people hate SPAAG

I got my special task last night of kills in AB tanks with SPAA, and I’m having a blast rushing with my first tank to the point, and then whipping out double SPAA.

Edit* Apologies Flying Doctor, I wasn’t directing this specifically at you, I hit the wrong reply button. It was meant as a general comment based on the start of the thread.

I think SPAA has many issue to contend with. Personally I find it to be very rewarding despite it being very challenging to learn how to use (I have about 600 battles in the Russian T-34 Phong Kong, where I accomplished nothing)

Generally:

  • SPAA Gunnery is a separate skill that needs to be practised and for most players it’s very hard to tell what you’re doing wrong. I find it’s a lot like learning to shoot clay targets as a beginner, you need to develop a variety of skills and put them together in a way that’s different to any other shooting you may have done and it’s only after you start hitting the target that you can begin to actually develop SPAA skills.
  • SPAA in order to use technically, requires that the play know how to roughly judge altitude distance and the velocity that the aircraft is travelling at. Once you’ve learned it becomes intuition but to a beginner it might as well be magic or hacks.
  • SPAA also vary drammatically, it’s not wholly unlike tanks but there’s a big difference between using 40mm AA rounds, when compared to 20mm, or 12.7s. The tactics you use to bring down planes can vary quite a bit.

I think many War Thunder players start this game with some degree of techinical knowledge that they believe will allow them insights or an advantage when playing. The skilled use of SPAA in War Thunder is truly an Art, there is very little technical guidance that players who aren’t already skilled, can learn and apply.

Absolutely no issue at all, and I appreciate the mindset.

New frustrating observation:

Started playing my Cent MK3 and Eland. I took my 5.3 Bosvark along.

Killed a SK60B. Where is the “Rank doesn’t matter” or “Skill matters” award?

5.3 BR kills 7.0 BR and apparently it doesn’t qualify because it’s a plane? Like I get it, it says “same vehicle type” but surely SPAA on plane should count for something, no?

Hmmmm I don’t think SPAAs get them against planes, normally see that when i kill tanks with lower br tanks but with spaas…yea i dont think i seen that, unless i kill a tank with SPAA

Wish it was given. It’d be at least some consolation for nations with SPAA gaps.

At this point you would be better off with a lf mk9 OR tempest mk2 as close air protection. You would get the reward and are way more capable than the awful mid tier spaa we have (skink with potato cannons, giant shooting range target bosvark and the utterly expired at 7.7 ystervark).
