I said scummy not “crummy”. this is a game, there are objectives to capture. having someone sit off at the edge of the map behind some rocks and killing people playing the objectives is scummy.
Most of the spots they have removed are because they either allowed sniping from or into spawns, which again, is scummy.
So it’s scummy to go somewhere else that isn’t one of the three predetermined funnels, and kill unaware enemies on their way to the cap zones.
It’s always better to remove enemies before they even reach the cap and apply 3rd person camera looking around corners rat technique in a rats maze.
They actually always intended to be in the game pre development, way before wowp and wows were a thing. Tanks and naval started development years before they came out. Air came first into the game because it was easier and they already had the assets from a previous game.
That isn’t true because WT was originally Birds of Steel, then World of Planes, a flight sim.
Now maybe when they redid the Dagor game engine, it became so multipurpose that they licensed it out to other devs. that they had the idea to roll all their Wargaming.net same-same competitors into the same app.
Nope. When the game was originally conceived it was tanks ships and planes. Planes came first because it was fastest but they had already started teams on tanks and ships. Even in closed beta we had tabs for ground and naval though they didn’t work and use to say coming soon.
I believe WoWp is older than WT. Unless you mean WoWp 2.0, after the original game failed epicly and had to be re-done from scratch…
Edit:
Regarding this topic, I’m kinda sad seeing some spots gone and kinda pisse seeing maps getting even smaller. The problem is the players. When you look at your team mates at the start of a battle, it’s almost everytime lemming trains. Naturally Gaijin’s analytics show this behaviour so the “lemming-yolo-hurr-durr-wwwwwwwww” majority of players completely overwhelms the few players, who are actually using (or trying to use) some tactics, take advantage of terrain features that help their vehicles to be more effective, etc. Not to mention that the average player is lazy AF to learn new things, to adapt and to use their brain. For them the ideal game is a small map with loads of obstacles and only few routes so the don’t need to aim at long distance and think of where to go…
War thunder was in development before wowp came out. It takes years for a game to get to beta stage even with some assets from a different game to draw from.
Yes but that isn’t relevant to this. War thunder didn’t copy something that doesn’t exist yet. The fact they were both in development at the same times means it’s not a copy.
I think you are mistaken and your remembering of the chronology is off. Gaijin had to change the name of its Ver. 2 flight sim from “World of Planes” because it infringed upon Wargaming’s trademark. Which is how we have “War Thunder” now.
You mean the initial coordinated attack on the objectives? Okay I’m kidding. Most players are probably kids the ADD type. So… yeah.
But OTOH, most of the ‘tactics’ employed those with high k/d are just lone wolf deathmatch sniping from FPSers and not realistic. This is why such are butt hurt about the map changes. They make it harder to take advantage of the bad map design.
Not mis remembering it at all. It was war thunder: world of war planes because at the time it only had planes that doesn’t disprove anything I’ve said and I’m not mis remembering at all. Even in closed beta we were talking about the tanks and ships coming in the future.
OK, I get it now… :)
And yes, WT has always been developed as combined battles with air, ground and naval vehicles. Actually that brought me into this game…
As mentioned before, many vehicles in WT were designed for “camping”, not for “brawling”. Just like many vehicles were designed for “flanking” or some for “pushing forward mindlessly”. Actually only a few vehicles were designed for urban combat (which is the majority of maps in WT now)…
Well, alot tanks are simply designed “to sit” …to camp from scummy spots. Without camping spots you can just remove all these turretless things as well as most ATGM-only carriers.
Then all will yolo around in fast autocannon vehicles and light tanks like in a Mad Max movie.
I would rather say that shrinking the maps more and more is detrimental to map design, actually making it worse over time.
There are so many stupid and/or one-sided maps out there, and it’s not because of those “scummy” spots.
That guy is probably butthurt since not everyone wants (or likes) those knife fights, in what’s basically a rat maze.
I remember when I played on Kuban soon after the USA got introduced into ground battles. It was fun taking advantage of reverse slopes and the stabilizer to engage in fast-paced maneuver warfare. Now all the slopes and rises that allow for proper hull down tactics have gotten eliminated over the years, and long-ranged sniping spots are next it seems.
Gaijin has been rebalancing maps recently and have been successful in some cases in making the map more bearable especially at higher tiers. European Province is the best example of “success” as the map retains its large open sniping while providing enough cover for other tanks to flank and gain position.
