But if it’s a known spot, then someone can deal with it as being aware is half of the point of the game… Many just drive, expecting to be top-dog because they think their vehicle is OP.
Indeed… The cheap shots, where people are merely using the same old worn out spots, are what’s being removed and changed so they can’t sit there doing what they are doing.
It’s like when people were complaining about the spawn sniping issue, that it was a reportable issue with the map genuinely, but they’d be all ‘Nope, ain’t gonna waste my time!’.
Because the people/company Gaijin hires to design maps, mostly designs COD style game maps and they like to put cartoonishly large terrain features and “scenic vistas” bordering the map. This creates places where players can take advantage of the game’s equally cartoonish physiks, to unrealistically climb the terrain and gain unrealistic advantage over other players.
Alot tank destroyers suffer because of this. These vehicles are only useful when used stationary from sniping spots. They often have no armor, no turret, some are even slow. Its not really fun to move them into close combat areas, where turret travers and mobilty mean everything.
I hate this as some of my most fun tanks are meant for long range engagements but more and more maps are becoming cqb. If I’m in one of these tanks and I get a map such as American desert or seversk I just leave. I don’t think I’m required to play a map I don’t like and I think is badly designed. But the worst pet is that even if they say they’re in rotation the amount of times I’ve seen Sinai or red desert is minimal. I haven’t seen red desert on almost 6 months at this point. Can’t even go to sim for the big maps anymore as I’ll be in a 9.0 tank facing a bvm on Berlin.
The problem is that the lack of long range viewing spots intrinsically devalues some functions. For example, armour in general is just less effective when every engagement takes place at 400m or less. You either need insanely heavy around or just enough to stop machinegun fire. Everything in-between becomes kinda meaningless. Spotting becomes harder and less valuable. As you’re likely to be able to make the shot yourself anyway.
It also means there’s no scope for balancing tanks round certain kinds of speciality. Because basically you’re a short range brawler or you just don’t perform. Smoke shells become largely redundant, because there’s no fixed positions worth smoking off. Tanks with poor long range penetration scaling, irrelevant, it never comes into play. Its the same issue in air battles tbh. Planes are designed to work well at different altitudes, but since the game is won below 2km in largely low energy fights, there are no win conditions at 6km and no meaningful AA to force you off the ground, you see the same nations planes designed for this outperforming everything.
Yeah I haven’t found TOO many that were unjustifable. Lots of these spots people are complaining about being removed were simply overwhelmingly powerful.
I cannot see anything in that release note that is cogent to this thread. It simply says there are changes based on feedback. What changes? What feedback?
But they at least used to be balanced. If you had a sniper spot on one side, you had one on the other too. But people complained about one, so they ruined that one, and left the other.
For instance, consider Middle East. Both sides used to have a sniper spot. The north side could go up the hill on the left side of the map and cover A, while the south side had a spot in the lower right that sniped into C. Now they have removed the southern one, but left the northern one, and as a result the north side wins almost every match.
And the spots were simply not a problem. They could snipe each other and I’ve been in some epic snipe-on-snipe battles. But now the north simply gets to control half the map and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.
This is NOT an improvement.
And it’s the same thing on 38th. They blocked off all the shots down into C from the north spawn, but didn’t change anything for the south spawn. They still have two sniper spots on the upper left (by the tents) that can fire down into C with complete protection, and another at the fork on the road.
Again, in the past the two sniper spots could equal each other out. I got very good at picking off the north-side snipers from the fork, where no one ever looked (although I would get nailed by guys from B all the time). It was balanced, to some degree at least. Now it’s south side FTW.
Another example. Just played Poland summer. They left the sniper spot above B for the left side, but removed the one opposite by the windmill for the right side. Used to love sniper battles from the windmill, but now it’s blocked while a 279 sat there and locked off B and C whole game.
Gaijin’s map design is so poor that adding flanking routes means removing hills entirely.
Sniping is fine but not when then only way across no man’s land is a mad dash.
Sniping favors specific nations heavily until everyone gains access to APFSDS / LRF and even at high tier no one wants to play a flat open map, that’s boring
European Province rework is the best example of allowing sniping while providing flanking routes to counter said sniping, more like this
Poland’s rework on the left side is okay, the right side as you mentioned by the windmill was overdone
>good game is made >good game becomes popular >new people outnumber old players and spend more money >new people demand game changes >company caters to new people’s demands even if it goes against their veteran playerbase
I wish Gaijin would stop doing that. Veteran players are the ones who stay with WT for all those years. The new guys usually just scream their way in, demand changes and by the time Gaijin actually implements these changes the new guys already playing a different popular Twitch game leaving the veterans stuck with unwanted “features”.
Yes, this is one that is good. With the berms on the right side you can now flank under cover, which before required you to run across the field. They also moved some of the houses around in the town on the hill, so you have more protection if you want to go along the upper side of the map - although this approach was always safer, there was only a small bit where you were visible because of the log piles.
Yeah the sniping spots were fun to abuse but they didn’t make the map better they just let you kill people who didn’t think to look 2000 meters up a hill to the left
i hate the new maps so much, it’s a push for brawling, but it favors NATO vehicles and especially wheel tanks. Germans and Russians are meant to snipe. Lights, Meds tanks can’t snipe effectively
so US, Sweden, etc nations cry
Then the maps changed
now germany cant even snipe and use their TD’s effectively other then brawl
soviets no longer gonna use their TD’s because why?
Shit armor, or heavy armor.
Slow as fuck and clunky to move.
Need to snipe and ambush.
Can’t ambush because your so fucking slow and light tanks will be in the middle of the map or past middle and flank and kill you.
Light tanks with auto guns will just flank you and kill you.
You get 3x-5x optical zoom while light tank that brawls gets 20x optical zoom with HEATFS.
You as a TD casemate have to pixle shoot with your APHE and hope for the best, hope you hit the target and hit the right pixle, and wait for long reload.
Light tank has 5-6 second reload with HEATFS for 300-400mm of pen and 20x optical zoom.
Which is better option to use.
Maps also now got rid of all sniping spots that TD’s could use
Its called strategy. If I wanted to play dumbed down 2 or 3 lane CQB 24/7, I’d go play an actual FPS shooter like Counter Strike or Call of Duty.
The only fun I find in GRB nowadays is to get a cap or a kill/assist and then spawn in a pure ADF and provide CAP.
CQC maps doesn’t mean we need sniper spots in said CQC maps. We need to remove CQC maps from high tier as they’re unrealistic and not enjoyable. More Fulda less Advance to the Rhine.
I see alot of people crying because their unfair and unfun sniping spots with easy cover are gone. maybe try a different spot, or better yet a less scummy playstyle. There are still countless places to snipe from.
