Why are modifications still a thing in this game

Dude, I was once so petty that when someone said HEATFS was useless I grabbed my stock 105mm
tank at the time and did an Assault Arcade match where I killed 46 Russian tanks [You needed 40 kills per person to win].

Back when the game’s shadows were flickering if I had them on [this was fixed at some point].

That’s ultra settings with shadows disabled, because shadows were flickering during that driver/update combo.

Dcs is also very crazy expensive indeed.

This is a misconception.

DCS World (the base software) is free on steam. You do not need to spend an arm and a leg on peripherals either - HOTAS stick with a twist and a throttle is all you need. There are plenty of budget/value for money options out there.

When on sale, the modules typically go for your usual AAA game price with the exception of freshly released modules like the F-14A/B and F-15E which are a touch more pricier. You do not require TrackIR either to play however it can be more difficult without.

That being said though DCS is not comparable to WT despite their similarities. Both games take their artistic liberties when it comes to modelling and have their own quirks.
