Who uses vertical targeting?

Vertical targeting never really made sense to me until I started playing sim. Im guessing vertical targeting was a thing in real life due to visibility constraints.

So do most sim players use vertical targeting? Combied with setting up controls to raise and lower head position, vertical targeting lets me keep the target in sight for much longer than i would be able to otherwise.

But i also cant shake the feeling that it’s somewhat inaccurate in a lot of cases, like when trying to shoot someone in a diving fight.

I’ve found starting to use vertical targetting and ~400m convergence has started helping me a lot when I began using japanese aircraft. It feels less significant with the M2 brownings of americans, but I swear it makes a big difference with cannons.
