Who can explain why teammates got bigger radar cross section than enemies?

I was shooting my RB99 holding constant lock and missile just randomly turned away and took out 2 of my teammates… will i get banned for this?

They don’t

so why did my fox-3 just turned away while i was holding hard lock on the enemy

Once the missile is active, it can swap targets with similar speed states.

Avoid firing towards teammates

ah okay, so even active lock won’t help?

Radar missiles will usually go for the best radar return. Anything within the radar cone is fair game.

No. Assuming you are not doing it on purpose and it isnt like 5 times a day, you are fine.

As far as i am aware, once an ARH reaches within 16km, it stops taking data from the jet and only uses its onboard radar.

uhhhh…

You should really be more aware if you are teamkilling like 30 times a week.

It happens to me maybe once a month at most.

Only in certain situations iirc. Like if you are firing down onto a target in ground clutter, I think maintaining a lock can help and if you can maintain a lock it wont hurt. But also dont count on it preventing the missile from switcing targets. For the most part, once the missile has gone active, its on its own.

As other have said, if the hostile contact is near some teammates, its probably best to wait, perhaps get closer and engage with IR missiles or guns if the target is distracted in a dogfight, or fire an ARH if the contacts seperate.

i was holding lock and missile was tracking right on the lock, my teammate flies pass by 100m from enemy and my radar ignores it but my fox-3 quickly changes to teammate, 2nd time i shoot at the enemy and fox-3 pulls up right into my teammate that was 200-300m away probably

Id need to see the replay to breakdown exactly what happened.

But best guess.

The first one the friendly went between the target and the seeker and so it swapped to it.

Second shot, Im not sure.

The seeker is a very very basic radar, far weaker than any in an aircraft and is very easily distracted.

do you need a link or a file?

If you link the match replay, with time code of each shot. I can take a look tomorrow or someone else can take a look and try to give you a better answer.
