Which round has better post pen? 120mm DM13 or DM23?

As the title suggests, I am curious which round performs better after armor.
DM13: 1650, 4,44 kg
DM23: 1640, 4,30 kg

The mass would suggest that DM13 has better post pen. What is your experience? Which round do your prefer and why?

Thanks a lot=)

No difference because the spall mechanics of modern APFSDS projectiles do not take into consideration the weight of the round.

That makes me curious! What is known about the spall mechanics? I have access to the ingame parameters of the shells - how would I compare them? What parameters define the spalling? Thanks in advance!

Conveniently someone has already produced a video of where to start

if its residual pen then why does very thin armor produces very little palling akin to very thick armor? the relation might not be linear

All APFSDS shot has an identical spalling pattern, unlike other shells there is zero consideration for projectile mass in spall calculations

Yeah? Tell that to the AUBL HVG.

Low caliber darts have a different spall pattern than anything about 76mm.

Gaijin breaks spall patterns up by Calibre, not by weight, penetrator length, residual energy, or anything else that affects it irl. You can look up spall data in the datamine.

It’s theorised that there is a minimum armor thickness/RHAe threshold that determines if a dart is permitted to generate large spall patterns or not before the game checks exactly how much spall is generated.

The interesting thing to me is that the relation between spall and residual penetration should probably be inverted. Excessive penetration is detrimental to spall generation. That’s why PELE ammo was developed IRL.

Put differently - the 105 mm gun on the leopard 1A5 has better damage than the 120mm gun on the leopard A1A1 (L/44) Premium. And it has comparable damage to the 120mm on the leopard 2A4.

Leopard 1A5 — 105 mm gun: DM 33: 408mm to 214mm PEN
Leopard A1A1 - 120 mm gun: DM 13: 393mm to 208mm PEN
Leopard 2A4 ---- 120 mm gun: DM 23: 410mm to 217mm PEN

Thats actually quite interesting…and completely counter intuitive…
