It’s the catch 22 of War Thunder: mobility is meta and being shot isn’t meta; but the likelyhood of getting shot in a game is extremely high so armour and survivability is something you have to consider.
Sure, you can argue the Ariete AMV is a fantastic MBT until someone looks at you.
Well when they first implement the ready rack for cr2s, I though they are making them stand out among all other tanks that have 6s reload to compensate the mobility? Well currently pretty much everyone have 5s reload, but cr2 are limited by that 4 rounds on the side of the breach lol
Well currently maps are really small and most of the time u have to face enemies frontally first, and then u might have the opportunity of flanking on the side
They indirectly nerfed the tanks that they had balanced through reload rate (leclerc, chally, type 10) except now they don’t buff them to compensate for 5 seconds being the new standard, personally i think they should all receive an armour rework (Type 10 especially since it’s composite is really janky) and a buff in another department to keep them viable in the state of top tier
On paper it has better armor than most tanks in the game as it has a decent coverage of eras on the ufp, but even if u are a newbie u should have a general ideas of where to shoot soviet style tanks after a few top tier match. Its just a worst bvm on almost every single aspect except for mobility (bigger lfp, no protect on the side). Also 7.1 sec reload is just bad.
The sad thing is they balance tanks through stats, the worst situation one tank is in, the less people play them. Those who left are the ones have decent performance in them, especially the nation has less player base. Some nation has their mbt in 12.0 because the limit is there, some of them are there because they are just end of the line mbt.
It’s both by stats and by making so there is always a top tier, that is why there isn’t any 11.3 leclerc or that ariete is not slightly lower same for otomatic etc.
Results are skewed because many of you don’t play China. VT-4A1 should be much higher in the results. Chinese MBTs have one of the worst rounds at top-tier, some of the poorest protection, missing spall liner and other features (like others in the list). But here is the kicker: Unlike the WZ1001 and ZTZ-99A that can make up for some downsides with really good mobility and reverse speed - the VT4 is much slower.
VT-4A1 is positively hilarious in terms of how bad it is.
The only good aspect about it is probably the APS and how it can save you from CAS, but that’s about it.
Despite the 99A being a very meh tank, which Gaijin modeled its armor and firepower completely wrong, it at least has mobility on its side.
The VT-4A1 is the 99A with even larger weakspots and it loses out on the mobility completely. It has a worse power-to-weight ratio and the reverse speed is even worse than the 99A.
Chinese MBTs are no different to NATO tanks in how they are treated by Gaijin. Aka gimped.
Top-tier is only one part of the tree. Many fun lineups to be had for China. Worth grinding it. And they’ll fix China top-tier, eventually. WZ1001 and ZTZ-99A are usable tanks, it’s just whatever they’ve decided to do with the VT-4A1. No idea why it has a gimped engine, it shouldn’t. They know this, but haven’t acted. That’s why it gets my vote. Not because it is worse than some of the others on the list (i.e, Ariete) - but because of how badly they’ve botched it and simply have moved on and forgotten about it.
