When are the Devs gonna fix the barrels and lower their health
its almost impossible to fight a MBT as a light tank when you when the barrel can eat 15-20 shell head on
Unlikely.
Loads of people used to complain that barrels died too quickly to fire from autocannons so they got buffed.
The bigger issue is the way which a lot of barrels are modelled now mean that shooting down the barrel doesn’t do anything because they’ve modelled the interior of the barrel as a cone instead of a cylinder. The result of which means your autocannon shells will hit this angled surface from the cone and won’t deal any damage because of the effective thickness it generates or ricochets. Barrels that are modelled with cylindrical interiors don’t really have this problem.
I’ve found your issue.
Honestly, it was such a stupid change. 15 40mm rounds into the barrel should knock it out, but it just doesn’t. Or a couple of 120mm rounds into it, but nope.
ah yes god forbid i try to defend my self against a MBT when it points it barrel right at me
silly me to believe that a barrel should break after getting head by at least 5-10 shells
in my opinion the barrels before was fine
if you just swing a little that you could easily stall for time to reload and kill
but now you cant even surprise attack and get the barrel unless its from the side and the dude is blind
From a gameplay perspective it makes no sense for light tanks to be able to head on MBT’s/Mediums and Heavies and win. You scout the target and hide, and wait for a teammate to kill him or distract him so you can get shots into his side. You can always track him so he can’t move, removing any ability for him to fight at all just makes vehicles with long reloads tedious to play and means that there isnt really any downside to light tanks. Gameplay takes precident over reality.
From a gameplay standpoint, it doesn’t make sense for 20 40mm rounds into a barrel to do nothing to it.
And that’s before we remotely consider the accuracy of that situation turning out that way.
well if as you say that i need to hide and only scout and sneak attack
then why the F- did they nerf the Tow missile?? the way they fire where they drop and then bounce up again is bull
and the way top down tow works is so weak and bull
rarely does it get any ammo and mostly just get absorbed into the breach
but if i shoot a barrel it should take damage no matter what and not a little bit
Y’know, I reckon we found a bot given this showed up in the other thread on barrel strength.
In the case of barrel breaks, you don’t win - you just survive. The only way you would win is if you were close enough in order to get to the sides and actually deal damage (which relies both on the map, the enemy’s position, and you being in a light tank that can survive the MBT’s MGs).
I completely agree, the missile changes that effected all of the missiles like this was a terrible addition and should be reverted.
It does, in the situation where the idea is that the downside of the vehicle with the 40mm is that it has poor firepower compared to the vehicles it faces. When you can effectively remove any enemy from the fight for over 20 seconds reliably that downside no longer exists.
I am not against it taking damage and that damage having any effect at all, but it completely stopping an enemy from firing and/or reloading is too powerful as a mechanic. I made a suggestion a bit ago about this topic specifically, wherein i suggested that the mechanic be changed to cause a level of dispersion/decreased velocity based on how damaged the barrel is instead of it fully removing the ability to fight at all : Barrel damage not stopping the firing of guns
Surviving is winning, it means that you are able to hold your position, it means that you can continue getting score and having impact in that vehicle and position, and every second you live while that guy is scouted gives your team more time to kill him, or for cas to notice the massive red marker and drop a bomb or missile on his head.
The downside is intended to be you have to be careful in engaging an MBT. Shooting the barrel out is in line with that. Not to mention your position is basically “Oh you shouldn’t be able to punish an MBT that over extends, you should just die”. Which is incredibly bad practice for a game.
Not really, it isnt difficult and you can often do it before the guy even notices you are there.
This is not my position at all, you can still literally stop the guy from being able to move and put a massive marker on his head for your entire team. Is that not enough to punish him for overextending?
You mean the marker your team will ignore? You don’t want a player to be able to save themself in the event their team mates fail to hold a flank. So your position comes out to effectively “Oh you shouldn’t be able to punish the MBT that over extends, you should just die”
Even when barrels broke easily, it was not hard to avoid. You approached the autocannon vehicle in a way that shielded the barrel, or that guaranteed you a shot first. It was not hard. Without the ability to take a barrel, you’re pretty fucked if you even want to engage a threat on half these maps because you’re forced to engage them head on.
If you were too far for them to ID effectively to stop you taking the barrel, you were too far for them not to escape if they played half intelligently.
the problem is that when the enemy notice you
cant destroy their barrel in time before they turn and shoot you
Even if they don’t notice you, you can burn all your ammo and still half the time fail to take the barrel.
A dozen 40mm AP direct hits leaves a barrel yellow-orange. A 155mm HE does nothing. The fastest sabot in the game sometimes destroys a barrel. Just 3 Russian 30mm shots destroys a barrel instantly.
Track and barrel torture is biased.
War thunder teammates are generally pretty awful, but when enemies are scouted they tend are drawn to them like moths to a light, Scouting is one of the most powerful things in the game.
You fall back to a position you can hold, and keep doing so until your entire team is dead and the game is over, or a position you can move foward to is freed up. These are the basics of positioning in any vehicle in war thunder, and if you can’t do that, then no amount of barrel damage is going to save you.
Barrels still do break easily, ive been playing for the event and using the lavad, I have still been able to break barrels consistently and easily. Approaching people isnt that easy, and if you are in a hull down position then the guy has to fully push up to you and into whatever position you are in, giving you plenty of chance to disable him.
This certainly isnt true, and even despite the map changes there are always places you can play from that mean that a player has to expose themselves fully to several angles to get close to you, and you can just passively scout and not have to worry. Then when the guy turns his attention to something else, you can peek and disable. These are again the basics of positioning on maps with little to no hull down positions.
Its a pointless debate anyway, because most of what we are arguing is opinon. Light tanks can just carry on being massively meta.
