In the recent sale i managed to aquire the 8.3 version of the Vautour. And as i never played jet gun fighters before I thought it would be a good place to learn how.
Yet i have run into a hassle. I seem to not get along with this plane at all.
Be it lim 5, mig 15 through 19, saber of whatever kind, these lightnings and hunters and so much more
Even an su7 is seemingly better as it outruns me mid match without moving even tho i am an interceptor which are designed to shoot bombers down??
Did i miss a memo somewhere? For a fighter this thing cannot be this bad in a dogfight or speed right? It manouvers like a brick too and worse.
Its landing flaps force it upwards instantly. It catches fire like its a candle rather than a plane and that means instant death as it never goes out.
It also has next to no actual gun ammo.
How am I expected to use this thing and what am I doing wrong? (I just got the missiles and they don’t seem to want to move at all either…am I cursed?)
That’s because it isn’t a fighter I’m afraid. It’s a heavy interceptor that shares the airframe of a bomber, trying to dogfight with it is about the worst way you can use it. Instead use its good speed/acceleration, powerful guns (4 defaas are something) and try slinging some missiles for the funnies
the Vautour IIN ? that thing is a rough introduction to jets…
the Vautour family was intended as bombers primarily, hence why every other fighter around these BRs will just run circles around you. the missiles (the IIN’s only gimmick) are abysmal, there’s a reason you get SARH ar a BR that low…
so are the bomber variants better ? nope, since they’ve been moved up to rank VI, they have a forced airfield spawn, ruining their only advantage (getting to bases quickly)
As replied to another user. the R.511 are terrible, but the AA20 are not. the V2N can easily clean up 4 people right off the start of the match, and you can strike airfield campers without ever being in danger.
