What's up with the cloud spam?

Whoever approved sorties in such a weather conditions should be court marshaled and executed.

Another example of how bad the weather actually affects the game https://youtu.be/daxdmklFQAk?t=644

Realism is when an entire desert map is covered in low-altitude clouds👍

At least low altitude clouds can be climbed above.

Storm? Storm clouds are very tall and wide. Like, 3-4 km tall continous blob of darkness

Cloud is 100 meters off the ground on mysterious valley.

You try to climb over it.

Radar altitude 100 meter to like 5 km is clouds. There’s small pockets of empty space, but it’s mostly clouds. And at least with korean jets, I can’t find anyone at 5 km radar altitude on mysterious valley. With props you can find a few space climbers there but again, most of the targets are way below you.

It’s to nerf CAS.
What it does instead, is to hide CAS from fighter pilots play CAP.

So again, someone who doesn’t play the game made a “big brain” decision which looks good on paper, but fails horribly in practice. Making the experience worse for everyone except the people which this change was targetted at.

Classical Gaijin move. Now we will wait 4 years until they realise “hey, it doesn’t fix CAS, it helps it”.

Another image showing how “Cloudy” weather in the mysterious valley is broken.

clouds cover 1/4 of the main airfield. Unable to land safely without being extremely cautious.

The cloud effect may be realistic, but Gaijin should prevent these clouds from appearing at AF, bombing base, etc. Like in real life no army would use an airfield in the weather condition like this.

I think Gajin thinks its doing something with this, but in reality it only made me not play Air until they grow out of this “clouds” phase and actually put in some work for few new maps.

The issue is people trying to hug the floor against radar guided missiles.

There are no radar missiles in korean and prop tiers

I know, but with cloud spam that is the worst part, with top tier, the number of deaths per game for dodging radar missiles are already high enough, now I don’t even dare to go low on some maps.

just like real life…

There’s a reason in commercial/GA flight sims one basically just stares at their instrument panel without looking out the window in these conditions.

And I think RL too.

Transitioning from Visual to Instruments unintentionally is one of the biggest killers in general aviation.

But the thing is for the most part, Armed forces do not fly in bad weather. We recently lost a whole B-1 bomber because they were landing in bad weather they should not have been in.

100%, I’ve had so many CAS planes in GRB just fly up into the clouds like 500m off the ground and become completely invisible.

There is no auto pilot though, so that is not comparable, IRL the commercial flights would literally have auto pilot until like 100 feet if that is the conditions.

That’s not what auto pilot is for or why commercial pilots use it.

clouds are a crappy way to do it. Also, I’ll never get over seeing full cloud cover in desert maps.

They have the auto pilot do the job in that sort of condition if the airport has ILS, if not, like in WT, they’d normally give up landing especially due to the fact that WT airbases are surrounded by mountains.

That’s besides the point - Pilots use auto-pilot to lighten their workload but they do not use it because it’s bad weather and are fully capable of flying manually in the same conditions (yes using ILS or in our case it should be TACAN)

But you’re correct that the mission would be aborted in the weather we see regularly in WT.

Also the fact that pilots are capable IRL does not mean in WT, cause we don’t have radio altimeter, so I have no idea about actual height.
