What would you do i you, if you were in charge of Development for the next 12 months

In your view, do you think it would be effective if each season, along with the battle pass, focused on adding a new tree for a specific nation?

No, season have nothing to do with TT, for me the best would be in the next 3 updates we get 1 TT in each one, one with United Korea, a Polish one with some subtrees from central Europe (or a Polish- Czechoslovakia TT) a South American TT and maybe one last TT be either a United African or Turkic one

I would run a poll on the forums about the playerbase’s priorities, and go from there. I would also see if I could talk with Gaijjin’s higher ups about what is wrong with the game and what needs to be changed (premium and copy paste being most notable).

I would try to show more presence. I think that’s Viescheslav’s biggest mistake. If you analyze it closely, it’s as if he’s too busy when it comes to analyzing the game and the player base. As if he’s too busy, giving the impression of isolation and consequently making players think that, and that he depends more on his own experiences playing the game or on other game designers. I’ve been trying to interview him for a while now about the topic of kamikazes, just like I do with other players, but I’ve never received a response.

Poland and Czechoslovakia could work best as West Slav tree united, not as Polish tt with Czechoslovak subtree to be honest.
We could also get both nations independently in the best outcome

this guy wants gaijin to work on the slave labour schedule

also youve seen those players they throw a hissyfit whenever they dont get something, they would riot if nothing was added for 2-3 updates

every tech tree getting 2-3 vehicles per update has been standard for a while now and its fine

One of the biggest issues in my opinion is that War Thunder has changed a lot in the past 10 years but still uses a lot of the same core mechanics, that have barely changed, if at all.

  • UI is still largely the same with no configurability. (recent years has seen a HUGE amount of extra UI clutter added with no settings at all to configure it)
  • Bombing targets are the same HP based targets, which are just boring.
  • Aircraft damage models are still very low fidelity, a LOT of issues arrise with aircraft taking “more” damage than they should because rather than a round making a hole, it causes your aircraft to split into 2.

etc etc etc

Even “newer” mechanics like how heat signatures are modeled (or rather the total lack of any heat signature modeling). CCRP and methods from dropping bombs (yes, aiming points were just added, but there are far older systems that dont intergrate with it, even though they should). How chaff and CMs works in general, etc etc.

There is a LOT that could be “added” not by necessarily adding anything new, but simply by going back and fixing, refining and generally improving systems, mechanics, features, etc of things that are already in-game, especially those very old.

Gaijin is too focused on adding the next new thing, without any thought to how it will intergrate with existing systems. For example, map design. GRB maps havent changed, at all. Regardless of whether you play low BR or high BR the spawn points are exactly the same, for both ground and air. For low BR the air spawns are fine, for high BR… you are well within the range of both A2G and G2A weapons, helis are able to fight from the heli pad practically… Etc etc etc.

They should spend a major update or 2 not adding anything new, just actually fixing eisting problems, and they certainly shouldnt be gaslighting the playerbase into thinking that problems are actually features and we are ungrateful for wanting things to be fixed. See that waaaaay too often

Why? If they don’t work on stuff like infantry it’s feasible, and all nations don’t need new stuff every update they can wait, a new tech tree will help war thunder way much than anything, what does the US, USSR and German TT even need ? That can easily go some updates forgotten without getting anything new that needs work. Getting a new TT is way more important than the existing TT getting stuff

not really? its really not as simple as you think, its not like all the people making infantry can just go make tank 3d models that easily, gaijin would need to fire the entire infantry team and hire new 3d modellers

i think we would have more discontent than ever seen before if the major nations didnt always get something

To priority is game balance… but done right this time, at least right for me. Not gonna listen to top or E-sport players as their playstyile is vastly different from the average player base and the majority simply has more importance… game testers will also be desperately needed to verify that the imbalance is actually there… also instantly ban everyone with a plane in their ground lineup

This is one of the points I’ve been addressing: the question of which part of the community Gaijin seems to listen to more. The crises Gaijin faces show that they apparently listen more when major creators complain, not when the majority of the community complains. One of the operating methods I follow, for example, and I think Gaijin should follow, is to look at a complaint, for instance, about balancing, see if it’s actually true within the game (while playing), and analyze what changes could be made to resolve it.

BR spread and Balance - maximum BR difference of 2 steps

Game Mode - add Realistic Tank Only

This is the answer.

Instead of giving us silly little “fixes” like changing an obscure vehicles ammo count from 200 to 204 rounds actually focus on larger issues that stare you in the face.

Fix the terrible damage models on aircraft that as you’ve said cause planes to fall apart after literally ONE 20mm impact.

Fix the airfield defenders that after their first flight proceed to crash on the runway and glitch out for the rest of the flight, this has been a problem for absolutely years now.

Fix the spotting system for Simulator battles, it’s atrociously bad. Aircraft can literally phase out of existence and it’s much harder to spot an enemy at closer range that it is at a distance. Zooming in at certain instances actually makes the “dot” disappear. You can see dots of enemy players from miles away if they’re attacking a friendly yet as soon as that friendly is shot down the dot vanishes. Considering Sim heavily relies on the Mk 1 eyeball this is atrociously bad and needs reworking.

Bring back historical battles with incentives to play them. We used to have leaderboards with prizes for the top players which plenty loved. For the matchups that might be favourable to one side moreso than the other just increase rewards for that side. Sorted.

Give us ground EC with actual objectives such as protecting convoys, destroying targets of interest etc instead of non-stop capture the point.

Also we need a massive increase to immersion. Here’s some immersive things we used to have that for reasons unknown no longer exist.

Cockpit damage.
Oil splattered windscreens.
Wet aircraft when flying through clouds with rain droplets forming on the canopy.

Most importantly far better engine sounds. Stop making completely different engines share the exact same sound it’s just laziness. Make those old props roar like they used to in the early days of WT and even in the previous games. If it’s too loud then adjust your engine sound slider. As it stands right now my Dora/Tempest/P-38 must’ve had their sound insulation made by Rolls Royce because I can barely hear it.

As a final change I’d also implement more realistic G-force limits and blackout effects. One of the reasons that your aircraft in game underperforms compared to reality is that everyone is pulling 10g in WW2 props without breaking a sweat. I’d Make black outs actually black out your screen like in the old days and I’d implement much more realistic control stiffening especially for Sim.

I think the game would absolutly benefit from a higher BR spread. It would make matches way more interesting and more fun to play. I think ,everyone knows it, if you are uptiered and -1.0 behind the top tier of the match, you are most of the time only some food for the enemy team. A higher BR spread would absolutly increase the balance of the matches.

Another point, and this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I would get rid of all those prototypes in the game at least those, wich were never meant to become a real fighting vehicle and just a tech demonstrator/test platform and also those, wich totally never worked iRL. Those, who didn’t get into production even they were ready to be and just weren’t build due to the change of global situations loke the end of the cold war, could stay. If possible, I would replace the vehicles, a Leopard 2k for example could be replaced with a Leopard 2A1, a Kpz70 with a Leopard 1A3 just to mention two examples from the german tech tree. If there wouldn’t be any replacement possible, you get a full refund for the XP you already spend on the vehicle on your free XP and the amount of GEs you need to spend exactly this amount of XP on other vehicles and also a full refund of SL. In my opinion, all those prototypes are disturbing the immersion of the game and I personally dislike it.

A next point would be to make more realistic maps by modeling some after real areas in the world, where battles happened or would’ve happened like for example the Fulda gap around Rasdorf and Geisa in germany. The maps would also increase in size. The mentioned area around the Fuldagap would be about 6 x 6km for GRB while the borders could even be way more offering, wich could be interesting for artillery. This is huge for sure, but you have way better possibilities to maneuver, get into position or flank the enemy. Also modern tanks are able to fire across huge distances and to get a better experience, I would also introduce real fire control systems wich would be kinda like a auto aim (like they are iRL) but kinda necessary on larger fire distances. Also the MRAA Systems in top tier would benefit from it, they don’t need to be that unrealistically close to the front line. Also I think, that several copycats in tech trees should leave again. For example france doesn’t need any Leopards, they have their own unique tanks, so I don’t see any use for it, it just mixes the tech trees and eradicates uniquenes.

I also think, that there should be something like historic battles wich could be battles on historic maps with the original or original to be enemies and instead of the BR, the year of service of the vehicle is the match making point. So in a cold war scenario, there wouldn’t be matches like US and Soviet union against china and UK so something like this. Also nations like germany for example wouldn’t fight on a korean map but more on central european ones.

Another thing I would like to see are “secondary nations”. Those could branch out from a main tech tree but except this behave fully like if they are their own nation. They have their own flag in battles if they participate and you can’t mix them with other nations, not even those it branches out from and they also can be on oposing sides in a batlle without mixed battles. For example UK could get its commonwealth as branch nations with Canada and Australia as branched out tech trees. Germany could get the GDR in a branch and Russia could get czechia, poland and noth korea, just as some examples. With this feature, tech trees could beware their uniqueness but also offer the possibility to get some different tanks without grinding a fully different nation.

Yeah no
