What the hell even is the gamplay at 12.7 air rb?

So I recently got my first “top tier” jet—the German 12.7 MiG-29—and every battle has been the same cycle: everyone rushes into the middle, spams their missiles, the merge kills most of the players on one side, then a few are left to mop up the last 2–3 players. Rinse and repeat.

It’s like I launch my R-27 at someone, he dies, I try to look for another target, but I see 10 ARH, SARH, and IRCCM missiles coming at me from like four different directions. I hug the deck and spam all 30 flare pops I have, and I die 99% of the time to a missile—or just crash trying to multipath.

All those videos I watched about “notching,” “BVR combat,” and dogfights with MiGs and F-16s seem completely irrelevant, like they’re playing a whole other game. I blame this mainly on map design and, more importantly, the fact that 16 players carrying like 100 missiles—each one pretty complicated to dodge—is just insanity.

I tried things like flanking wide or lagging behind my team to try and avoid the chaos of the merge and try not to get targeted as much as possible but no strategy seems to make this plane playable in a coherent way, like the MIG-23 before it was.

So how has this been going on for so many years? What even is the gameplay at this BR supposed to be? sry if i sound jaded im just pissed off that all this grind has lead to this huge disappointment.

It’s also the gamemode design as well. We shouldn’t have more than 10v10 above 12.0, we shouldn’t have multipathing, and we shouldn’t have flat maps with only 1 spawnpoint per side.

It’s quite poorly designed, and kills rely more on luck than outplaying your opponent.

You should get the F-4F ICE, it’s much better for it’s BR.

its not going to improve his situation at all

Basically they never actually made the gamemode fit the new advanced mechanics, they just shoved them in there. You CAN learn how to play in these lobbies effectively but it takes a lot of practice and possibly time.

Premium players and players grinding.
The enjoyment level at these just below top tier games is ruined by premium players who dont want to learn to play and just fly straight into each other try to get a kill die and join another game.

War thunder is a WW2 game at its core. The current game modes are not meant to handle anything more than Korean War era jets. This is just gaijin pinching out content for the sake of it without doing anything to adapt the game for modern vehicles.

That too

I disagree. KWS is fairly good plane for its BR, provided OP is willing to accept its drawbacks.

Did you read OP? A fancy new jet will not solve this issue.

Yeah, just wait to get a full uptier so he can face Su-30SM)))))

Or fulldowntier and dunk on premium jets with AMRAAMS.

Fair enough.

Would you be happy to see multipathing removed? Removing the single remaining option to evade radar missiles reliably? Your ideas would only make the game worse…

you also have the worst MiG-29. It was a dogfighter jet made with HMD and the R-73 aam made for it.
In game gaijin nerfed its flight performance to be a missile bus with R-60MKs that are dogshit and some radar missiles it never carried. 9.12 and 9.13 are in a bad spot.

12.7 is ok, try 14.0

Most players lose at the first encounter. The outcome of the battle is almost always decided in two or three minutes. The problem is that players do not know how to dodge parl and arl missiles.

… Notching???

I still don’t want MP removed but come on

This is it. People just don’t know how to survive against radar missiles in general (and likely never will at this rate) so the engagements are decided before they even merge in the head on

Yes, as long as there are a few changes done before.
