What is the F-15E hype about?

I just unlocked and spaded the F-15E, expecting it to be the beast everyone talks about, but I was severely disappointed to realise it’s sub-par at best, and completely uncompetitive at worst.

It’s not uncompetitive for sure. It’s fair at 14.0. I don’t think it should go lower.

First, I must admit I have seen the videos of people climbing high, launching all their AMRAAMS and getting 6 kills, but after trying that in a match I can confirm that is extremely unrealistic.

It happens but naturally it’s very rare. Don’t target the guys that are closer, higher and faster. Those are players that are doing an aggressive early game and are expected to go defensive when missiles get near them.

If you spam all 8 of your missiles and get 2 kills from that, you had a good outcome. Also, you are forcing the other team to defend early and forcing them to lose positioning. That might help your team indirectly, but naturally, you won’t get rewarded for it.

If you want to get more kills more often, you obviously need to be much closer and be more conservative with your shots.

Also, the flight model is quite frankly terrible. It does have really powerful engines, it can climb really high and go really fast, but the EF-2000 can do that just as well, while having better turning performance.

The EF-2000 has a higher BR, so it is expected to be better.

You have a more reliable radar technically, for now, because the EF2000 has more unresolved issues when there’s a lot of activity in the air. Your RWR is also easier to use/read because “scale” on the EF one is stupidly big, also it’s incredibly sensitive and you NEED to lower RWR sensitivity in your settings or you will have lots of false positives and a lot of distractions.

What else?

You can carry 8 fox3s instead of being forced to carry 2 aim9m.

That’s about all your advantages. Anyway… The EF2000 is 14.3 since it’s better, mostly because of the FM.

a Rafale can launch, pull 15g into the notch, and then use HMS to launch MICAs while they are still in the notch.

Rafales will sealclub everything, even the EF2000 doesn’t stand much of a chance unless the rafale has no missiles left.

The radar is the F-15E is extremely sub-par. Trying to lock people with this radar is a nightmare. I have had cases where a enemy can be around 5km away, and my HMS just can’t lock him. Now compare this to the AESA radar on the Rafale, or the PESA radar on the SU-30SM, the difference is miles apart. This is rubbed in by the fact that IRL the F-15E was upgraded with an AESA radar around the same time it got its HMD upgrade.

Every 13.7+ radar is about the same, except those 2 you mentioned and the F-2A, but the latter doesn’t get HMD.

I think in this post i have explained why the F-15E just can’t compete at top tier with all the superior airframes. The insane climb rate and speed, is only really useful for BVR engagements, that most of the time don’t work.

If we got BR decompression, the F-15E might have a better BR placement, but for now, it shouldn’t go lower or higher. It would not be much of a fuss if it were 13.7, but it would not be very fair for the F-16C and some others, for example.

How would you know? You have never flown anything outside of the US tree except for a few Russian premiums

from what i can tell f-15e radar is perfectly servicable. I don’t actually have the f-15e, but i have the j-11b which has the exact same scan patterns as the f-15e and it’s quite good

yeah to me all of the an/apg series radars are very solid. not bad at anything, generally good at everything. great narrow, and medium scans. mediocre wide scans however if they even get them

Yeah from my point of view, most of these medium prf TWS radars work all the same with minor range differences. Some have more useful scan patterns than others, but that’s about it

i mean f-15e can’t really go down. I think most of the 13.7+s already in general shouldn’t really see anything below 13.3. it’s really damn compressed from ~12.7 onwards.
There’s just such a major difference between something like a 13.7 f-15jm and a 13.0 f-15a
It’s really unfortunate the compression that happens at higher brs.
Also this compression is what makes the 13.3 f-16s bloody fantastic, omega seal clubbing in semi downtiers while still being competitive in full uptiers.

Agreed. Decompression is key. I woudn’t mind a hard barrier between some BRs either, or a mode without ARHMs

Old meta vehicle, unrealistically powerful engines, buffed maneuverability, amazing weapon set.

It’s like when the Gripen JAS39A was added to Sweden, it was highly regarded as the best plane in the game for quite a while till it was nerfed and upped in BR.

Finally both have been put in their places, sadly the Gripen suffers a bit, but the F-15E I’ve not heard any complaints on.

The F-15E is a one trick pony plane, it can only really do long range BVR well. The problem it has is that in an uptier the EFT does that role better. Which is likely why the F-15E is at 14.0, but moving it down further would also be bad.

yeah it definitely shouldn’t go down and I agree with you that BR compression is real bad. Especially around that 9.0-10.0 where flareless planes fight high g missiles. Also around 11.0-12.0 when you get teh switch to pd radars which work way better at low altitude than the older ones.
