some props still have an issue with runways being too small as their brakes are abhorrently poor so force belly landings (or more practically a normal landing followed by a firm pull of the rudded to sheer it off once youre at the end of the runway to stop) it isnt very common to come across though
nah they dont really need to imo, if you havent taken any damage you can already skip the repair/rearm time
i dont think so. Just have even perfect belly landings actually deal some damage instead of being a way to land without skill scott free (until the game remembers its made by gaijin and causes a random explosion or tail to fall off)
Could’ve sworn this became much more common as soon as the runways were visually revamped in that update less than 2 years ago. Like ignoring the hitbox issue with the runway lights if I remember right the runway literally flipped you over sometimes if you landed without gear, but maybe I’m just crazy.
Now tiger, here’s how to land:
1. Prepare the approach
- Reduce throttle to ~30–40% while approaching the airfield (Use the airbrake (
H) ) - Line up with the runway from a long, straight approach
- Lower landing gear (
G) once you’re slow and stable - Deploy flaps to landing (usually
Ftwice)
2. Control Your Speed
- Aim for 220–300 km/h (varies by jet; lighter jets can go slower)
- Use airbrake (
H) if available to avoid overspeeding (both the F-5 and the J35XS have one) - Keep the nose slightly up; don’t dive at the runway
3. Final Approach
- Throttle down to 10–20%
- Maintain a gentle descent (about 3–5°)
- Make small, smooth corrections: jets respond quickly
4. Touchdown
- Just before the runway, cut throttle to 0%
- Gently pull up to flare (reduce descent rate)
- Let the main wheels touch first, then the nose
5. Slow Down Safely
- Deploy airbrakes / drag chute if equipped (
ALT + G) - Use wheel brakes carefully (don’t slam them) (
B) - Keep the aircraft straight with rudder
6. Stop & Repair
- Roll to a stop on the runway
- Stay still for a few seconds to repair, reload, and refuel
This is often faster than bellylanding, because if you’re undamaged you can (
J)-out immediately to respawn again!
Belly landing has also been punished by gaijin, because since a couple updates ago it has become more realistic (belly landing speeds for damage have been lowered, meaning you have to belly land even more carefully now with jets).
They introduced off-road effects to the runways and nothing else.
The issue was it initially was too strong meaning you couldn’t belly land at all, so naturally they went completely overboard with the fix
Landing with gear is faster if you’re undamaged. You can J out immediately when you stop and instantly respawn
tbh brakes are greatly underperforming in game on basically all jets (apart from the f104 for some reason) so the braking distances are insanely long
Belly landing when your plane is intact is just skill issue, get good
Go into the test drive, and practice how to do tactical landings with the gear down.
What if one part of the main gear is missing?
Cant say anything about the F-5, but the J35 seties is well known to not take the shock of a belly landing well in the slightest
If you’re going to do a belly landing too, im sure you know how to, but its also not really safe to do with aircraft that have round bottoms (like the F-16 or J35)
If that was the case the airframe would show black color or downright explode. It’s a game bug.
I know how to gear land. I used to do it before I went belly.
It’s a realism issue that the landing got so buggy because planes could belly land irl
#Nerf Belly Landing
And buff brakes
Totally, I would not be able to stop without the parachute. Especially as in the Jaguar Gr.1 it is falling out of the air at 300kmh and needs a fast touch down.
This problem belongs to a lot of planes, especially Delta Wings. And it’s not the shock of the first touch down, it’s because they have a lot of AoA at low speeds, and even if you touch down smoothly, you also have to bring down the nose smoothly, otherwise you risk a pilot knock out.
Belly landing in the current state of the game is perfectly fine. There is only one bug: AF runway is a one way street. High speed belly landings from the other direction are not possible, you explode instantly.
