No Tokyo actually was, However it was one of the last backup targets and wasn’t considered a priority, and yes I know about the firebombings, of japan during ww2 In case anyone thought this was a recent event.
EDIT: I’m not sure why this got hidden by the system there was nothing that should’ve caused that. @Schindibee
Hehe, yeah Afghanistan is interesting that way: Sometimes you really need to decide carefully which valley to go down in the hope you’ll end up below the cloud ceiling…
What I could well do without is clod cover ON the airfield. Not helpful. (But would be extraordinary fun if we had GCA).
And what I also don’t like is that visibility of the clouds is often distance dependent, especially around airfields.
I am not sure if you really understand what you are talking about.
The nuke drops had 2 goals:
To show the USSR who has the largest stick on this planet.
To study the devastation of an A-bomb on an intact city with the goal of creating maximum casualties.
Everything else is just propaganda. If you have ever read books about the devastation of JP you would not claim nonsense like “Tokio would be a back up target” - it makes no sense to bomb an already devastated city when most of the surviving residents have left the city.
Literal solid cloud cover over entire Tunisia map starting at 1km altitude up until about 2.5. Weather type was "Low cloud cover"
Good cloud cover:
Local clumps of clouds, stretching about a kilometer in diameter. Lots of empty holes to actually use for navigation and dogfighting without the ability for someone to sit inside the cloud and deny objectives without counter-play. Also tunisia. Weather was "Cloudy
Second one gives fun obstacles to fly around and use to turn lost fights around with smart use or to ambush superior foes.
You’re incorrect; it was used in order to get Japan to surrender so that we wouldn’t have to invade mainland Japan, which would’ve had more casualties than both nukes combined.
Tokyo was the last on the list to be nuked for that exact reason
The nukes were literally just The US scaring Japan into surrender, its why we warned them before we did it, also every purple heart given out up to at least Vietnam was made in case we had performed a mainland invasion of Japan, yea that’s not a myth that’s actually true.
You simply forget to distinguish between official narrative and actual reasons for certain events. The JP boys never had a chance due to missing oil (which forced them to go to war outside China in the first place). With a regular and negotiated peace there would have been no need for an invasion.
The fairy tale that there would be a need for an unconditional surrender in order to punish war criminals is a joke. The same people responsible for atrocities where later whitewashed and recruited (SS & Co, Unit 731).
The war was won in 1943 - the sole purpose of continuing was to keep the war economy booming and to weaken potential adversaries (even if they were allies). The goal of “unconditional surrender” produced a reason to continue the war and to create / cement areas of influence.
So i don’t blame you to follow certain narratives, but you look smart enough to come to your own conclusions.
Regarding the topic:
The discussed content is basically the same as in this thread:
I have never, in my life, heard of an irl dogfighter taking place in clouds. Heck, even relatively mild weather conditions have left bomber fleets without escorts.
This is actually pretty incorrect. Most military aircraft wouldnt receive clearance to fly in most of these conditions due to the likelihood of pilot death. Life isn’t Hollywood.
If we’re talking immersion, you won’t be doing a dogfight in a situation where the only reason you can see your opponents is the floating red markers or glitchy rendering.
Gaijin has never heard of clear weather before. Completely unheard of to them. It may seem like a radical idea but not every map has to be “cloudy” as clear days do exist.
I play just about every BR. Ground Real and Air Sim. Looking back through my replays, its all cloud or storms or overcast. I haven’t seen a clear weather map in a while.
Also constant “Evening” matches if we include that. I’ve given up on “evening” lobbies as you veritably can’t see anything unless you fly on the ground.
