We Need To Talk About Scouting

I’d love scouting to be removed all together. Not gonna happen of course, but at least put a fast timer on scouted vehicles, say it marks them on the map for 10 seconds and that’s it. Have scouting cost spawn points or have a long cool down on it, longer than the penalty currently for hitting the scout button with nothing in sight.

maybe just make a list what would make scouting less op and make a poll after getting some approval here. Maybe we need some sperate polls for it, since you want it to be changed there needs to be some kind of suggestion.(since nothing will change if we just stay mad about the arcade stuff)

If so I would suggest atleast 4 categories,
(1)economical changes,
(2)how the spot works,
(3) what should be able to spot(example: radio, maybe add a longer delay when the target will be spotted)
and then if the poll is done:
(4) how should drone spotting work: and then my question about drones can be answered.

Scouting is so overpowered now and a joke for gameplay. It’s like WoT except you don’t get sixth sense… crazy.

What is going on when all of a sudden pretty much the entire enemy team is revealed all at once? I see this a lot where there will be nothing marked, then all of a sudden like 9 scout markings appear all at once?

Idk, I haven’t really experience it like that. But when there are a lot of light tanks in your team it doesn’t take long for the whole battlefield to lighten up.
It’s just so easy to scout someone, that’s is, I would guess, why it feels to you like it happened from one moment to the other.

Usually at the end of the battles when there is less light tanks, there are way fewer markers.

dw some lineups are light tank only

Nah it’s weird, they all appear at once and flash for a second, like someone just activated some map hack ability.

My ultimate demand is to remove scouting. If Gaijin didn’t ignore this thread and decided to change something , they will will probably do it their own way. My attempt is to push these changes as far as possible.
I’m pretty sure you can make a poll, too, if you want.

But I just think everybody should bring in his own proposes and discuss them, a poll is too static in my opinion.

Probably yeah, but speaking from personal experience, as the battle progresses and people respawn, the share of light tanks becomes smaller. Most lineups are not only light tank.

Another reason scouting reduces the fun of battles is that it enables effortless teamwork.
That in itself sounds good to many people. However, if one person’s life is made easier, it becomes more difficult for another. It has become much more difficult to prevail in a situation where the enemy outnumbers you.
Scouting can completely remove the “fog of war,” making it impossible for an outnumbered opponent to fight back or outsmart their enemies.

With scouting, Gaijin takes a large part of the tactical interaction out of the hands of teams and automates it. As a result, battles become increasingly predictable, skillless, monotonous, and shorter.

Some people might ask how exactly scouting ruins light tank gameplay.
When playing most light tanks you want to either attack the enemy from the flank or even get behind the enemy’s lines.

Flanking or infiltrating enemy lines has become much harder because of scouting — not because it takes more skill now, but because it mostly comes down to luck. If an enemy happens to scout you, your entire plan is ruined.

Most players today probably aren’t even familiar with the old playstyle of sneaking behind enemy lines. It used to be a very risky but incredibly fun tactic — high risk, high reward.

The reason it’s become so difficult is that when you flank or infiltrate, you’re usually completely alone in your light tank. You’re outnumbered, surrounded by enemies, and every move counts. In that tense situation, you have to move like a secret agent — silent, careful, unseen. But if you get spotted, multiple enemies will immediately hunt you down.
And the worst part? You can’t even escape, because the scouting marker follows you around like a wallhack for the next 30 seconds.

Not true.

Because people use thier light tanks for scouting.

Because they are scouting and working with the team rather than trying to bum-rush teams spawns and spawn camp.

That’s what good comms (which scouting/map pings/drone markers/squad marks kind of simulate) is for. Scouting is an improved version specifically for light tanks.

It is/was a possible way of playing them.

Yes, skillful use of light tanks of light tanks got displaced by dull, monotonous and unfair scouting.

I never talked about spawncamping. Idk if that’s what you do when flanking but most people don’t flank in order to camp the spawn.

Improved so much that it became to strong, and only available for a select few tanks.

You could introduce the spotting system like in Arcade into RB and label it an improved version of comms.

Arcade is actual pinpoint locations though. There’s a significant enough degree of inaccuracy/delay in RB spotting that it can’t just be substituted for LOS

This here implies that I only mention spawncamping because I do it, which is a low bar throwout based on the fact you’ve merely been opposed.

It still is, but you take a risk to play that way, with the issue you claim to be a problem… After all, you could be seen and scouted, highlighted to the team.

Your definition of skill, and even playstyle, is a very fixated and bitter angle to take, after all, this thread is indicative of that.

You’re talking of flanking, which is commonly followed by spawn camping IF it succeeds.

It was always on light tanks, so I have no idea what you’re implying by the fact of you trying to make out it was ‘strong’ and limited to the tanks it has.

This isn’t a viable thing at all, we don’t play with markers for a reason.

If you want Arcade gameplay, it’s there to play.

I was exaggerating in oder to maybe make my point clear.

Scouting isn’t “communication,” it’s a one-click wallhack.
Real teamwork means awareness, timing, and actually paying attention. Scouting skips all that and hands out way too much info to everyone with zero risk.
Light tanks should earn their impact through positioning and stealth, not just by pressing a magic “mark” button that deletes the fog of war from Realistic Battles.
