In Simulator Wars, jets (especially aircraft with turbofan engines) consume a lot of fuel. In dogfights, drop tanks are dropped from the aircraft because they slow down the rotation of the aircraft. That’s why tanker planes need to come. It doesn’t matter if it’s a bot or not. It will both add a little more realism to the game and save time.
How are you using 16 minutes of minimum afterburner time in one sortie?
- For that we need much larger maps
- Stop flying on afterburner all the time.

I never run out of fuel, and rarely bring more than 30 minutes worth, usually 20 if I carry also drop tanks.
I’d like to have it as a challenge (got a lot of experience with air to air refueling in other sims), but watching the other sim “pilots” take off and land makes me wonder if this would be an, ahahaha, wise addition…

Turbofans are much better in fuel economy, so they are used on airliners.
Well, if they add in flight refuelling, I hope they also add it for the A-10…
Also, turbofan does not necessarily mean low fuel consumption: I wouldn’t consider e.g. Rafale and Typhoon to especially fuel efficient, no? ;-)

As are the landings and take off´s. All a question of pratice and reading the HUD. This would also need diffrent HUD modes. We all did crash at some point and had to learn.
I still remeber my first SIM air to air refuling in EF2000. I wsa 14 at the time, many attempts, many weekends. It worked. Just matter of pratice and patciance.
Very few jets are in the position to have insufficient fuel and/or lack the bags to be unable reach the far side of a 128km map and return with a surplus of gas.
With that said, yes add the tanker. Add it because it’s a strategic target to defend or defeat. Honestly, gonna need bigger maps for that, improved recon and other features and targets.
The maps are definitely to small for that, yes.
You can’t fly in a straight line for 2 min. without being locked. It’s way easier to land and refuel.
And tankers in the middle of the map would eat a fox3 one min. after spawn.
I doubt that this game mode is suitable for tankers anyway.
Better change the surveillance planes to awacs in higher tiers and let them tell you enemy positions.
It would add a real valuable strategic target that is worth attacking and protecting.
How are you gonna defend the tanker ? Even Airfields are not safe on EC, how do you pretend to have a tanker alive in this tiny maps … F-14 would kill red tankers from their airfield all the time.
Hm, something like the buddy-buddy refueling method could however work, if we don’t want bug lumbering KC-135’s and KC-10’s playing practice target for everybody.
Various types in the game could act as refueling donors using the refuelling pods. The role as tanker could even be rewarded, so for example if players take fuel from you, you get rewards, and also successful refueling could be rewarded for the recipient…
The main problem still remains.
How do you protect the tanker and yourself against long range missiles.
Hanging 30 sec on a tanker leaves you extremely vulnerable.
Plus, when you have to refuel, you normally also have to rearm. So you have to land anyway.
This whole tanker thing doesn’t really fit into EC
Yes, that’s what I 'm afraid too. WT probably is just not the right platform for this.
At least not unless Sim EC is completely revamped and re-developped.
They could be targets for air rb. AWACS and JTAC and Air refuling planes could act as bases do for bombers but this time as targets for fighters. In RB and arcade. In sim they could do there functions as they are designt to do. As a idea for the devs if they want to bring in some more life in to air rb and mix up that team deathmatch and add some objectives.
A escort mission for cargo airplanes that have to move from one side to the other of the map would be option. One side has to destory as many as possible the other has to defend them. Ground attackers would have to go after sam sites that are in the way. Fighters go for other figthers. spam flares and chaff to keep long ranges missles away.
AWACS on both sides plus bases bombers go after bases figthers can go after awacs and tankers.
Yes EC needs much much bigger maps.
I definitely agree with this one, Air RB and especially EC needs more interesting and unique tasks other than just “kill this base and kill enemy x50”.
Bigger maps for Sim, especially now with FOX-3 missiles are more than welcome.
