We need better ground maps

Hi,

I’ve been playing this game since the early access in the early 2010’s and I like it very much, but…

That habit of reducing map size and especially width, which removes routes to take and limits the playstyle and viability of a lot of vehicles really isn’t good for most poeple.

Over the years I saw many maps being modified as to remove many flanks or simply complete parts of the map that were very fun to use and play on in favor of putting in simples 2 or 3 straight lines to use, which in the end results on the domination of whoever wins the 1st engagements then push on spawns.

It’s just not fun for most poeple.

from mid-tiers to top tiers we have vehicles capable of multiple km shots, thermal vision, laser rangefinders, etc but are limited to a couple hundred meters engagements at most.

I understand smaller maps at low br’s since vehicles are slow and don’t have powerfull optics but you need a better set of maps for later vehicles cause the knife fighting ADHD induced type of gameplay that you offer for now isn’t cutting it.

We need better maps, but that doesn’t mean larger maps.

I’m fairly sure we have a few active topics that are saying the exact same thing as you as well.

Yet nothing changes and they still are reducing map size and width every few months, despite a large portion of players saying that current maps aren’t good.

They aren’t reducing the sizes as much as everyone says they are in my opinion. They have (American desert), but they’ve also made good changes like removing a spawncamping spot on mozdok, and removing the alley on Sinai.

Advocate for specific changes to specific maps instead of saying blanket statements, because giving actual feedback is better.

Is saying burn Fire Arc to the ground viable feedback :D

No you haven’t, and this is how we know:

Map size is over double the map area of legacy maps today.

If you’re going to lie about your experience in War Thunder at least be honest.
The average map size of maps released post-2018 are on average double the map area of Abandoned Factory, a map which was above average in size for the legacy maps.

Some years ago match making wasn’t a big deal because of the map design. Last year or two map design is just awful and is not going to be better. This game for me is literally wasted my money and from a casual player, now i just log in a few times per month.

That makes sense. In an up tier now you cannot hide behind cover ,skill and tactics. it’s just a straight out shooter and in many cases when facing the uptier you will lose.
I can see why so many see no way out other than to quit the game.

Forum members who defended the uptier always said that you need to use the map and be clever when facing the uptier , don’t go head on but I dont see much scope to do that now. Gaijin kind of screwed up their own game by a big margin.

why would I lie about my time lol?

The maps have been changed and a lot of flank routes have been removed.

I dont care about the size, but the maps are narrower each time they touch them, that’s what I meant to say.

Yeah, you are forced into 2-3 lanes headons now, you can’t use the map to flank as much as you were used to be able to.

But hey, don’t critic, or you will be attacked lol.

2 maps of all of War Thunder have allegedly had their flanking routes removed.
4+ maps have had flanking routes added: Sweden, Sands of Sinai, etc all have new flanking routes with none removed and all larger than legacy maps.

Come on man, that was such a great spot to fight over.

Do we play the same game?

Sands of sinai had the biggest chunk of it removed in the mountain part lol.

They changed so many spots where you could hide with a light tank to block any line of sight from them, almost all new maps are reduced in width, anything that’s not urban is just plain open fields, etc.

BTW, ground cbt was in 2014, so don’t question my honesty when I say I’m one of the OG’s.

I found it annoying that in order to have a huge advantage on a long range map (due to positions that overlooked the entire map), you had to fight over a smaller corridor.

It also made spawncamping quite bad because you can just overlook the spawns from it.

Sinai used to be excellent, really dislike the changes.

Sands of Sinai lost the CQC area, which made Sands of Sinai gain 5+ flanking routes that were otherwise locked down by the CQC area.

Almost all new maps are the same square all maps generally are.

@Sweedish_Gunner
If you like CQC maps so much play those maps, stop trying to make every large map CQC just cause you dislike long-range engagements.

2 year old player throws 11 year vets experience and advice out the window. circa 2025

Sweedish_Gunner being a 2 year old player according to you is irrelevant. His opinions matter no matter his time playing the game.

You being 11 years, myself being 13 years, that matters purely for educational purposes.

True, but then make the spawns more protected and make more safe routes with cover like rocks and stuff instead of forcing poeple in a headon.
