WarThunder Infantry Eras Discussion - (WW2 era 1939 - 1949)

WW2 Eras Discussion

Continuing the infantry era discussions WWII era (1939 -1949), this is where infantry gameplay would likely feel the most complete and familiar within War Thunder. This period brings a full spectrum of standardized weapons, specialized roles, and combined arms integration, making it ideal for infantry mode. Players could expect a wide range of equipment including bolt-action rifles, semi-automatic rifles, submachine guns, light and heavy machine guns, anti-tank weapons, grenades, and flamethrowers, alongside essential tools like binoculars, radios, and field gear for coordination.

This era also opens up a lot of room for experimental and late-war developments, such as early assault rifles, advanced anti-tank launchers, night-fighting equipment, and other prototype systems that began appearing toward the end of the war. On top of that, field modifications could play a big role things like improvised armor, customized weapons, extra stowage, camouflage adaptations, or even ad-hoc equipment changes made by soldiers in the field. There is also a role for home armies and partisans in this era.

From a map perspective, WWII offers huge variety: urban combat in ruined cities, dense forests, open countryside, deserts, jungles, collonies and fortified defensive lines. This allows for different playstyles, from close-quarters fighting to longer-range engagements, all while integrating vehicles, aircraft, and infantry together.

Overall, this era provides the most balanced mix of firepower, variety, and tactical depth, making it a strong foundation for infantry mode. Curious to hear what others think what equipment, experimental gear, or types of maps would you want to see most in a WWII infantry setting?

They wont add it cause thats in Enlisted, they´d have to kill Enlisted first. Besides there are more pressing issues first to adress in WT infantry before it can even move forward.

Most of enlisted guns were ported over and are in the files, because the korean war is 99% ww2 weapons to begin with. SVT/AVT/AVS/PPSH/M1 ect are all in the files.

Exactly. People don’t understand that this is basically a face saving measure for Enlisted, nothing more. The equipment will all be there. The only actual consequences will be a likely absence of Germany from the earliest ranks (or at least you won’t be playing Wehrmact soldiers) and the lack of WW2 maps. The end.

I have a feeling enlisted did not work out and by slowly putting enlisted into warthunder they can save there work aka models AI. They will likely keep warthunders infantry the single player and enlisted squad but I may be wrong or have both. All things considered there are lots of strange equipment I would like to see for these eras

Germany had a strange post war police army thing so did Japan so that is why I’m pushing in other discussion post a police and anti-terror equipment line for that type of unique equipment built off of that strange post war army thing

It might be hard for Gaijin to avoid WW2 weapons let alone WW1 as we humans did not evolve to be immune to WW2 weapons plus the stockpile have not run dry everywhere

WW2-era Tommy guns Vietnam War (The mob would be so happy)

Soviets and now the Russian still have lots of WW2 German weapons in stockpiles in caves they reappear sometimes and they did during the Vietnam War.

Gaijin might just want to add WW2 just because

That game is already dying.

If they are or not Gaijin has basically made infantry unique enough it likely would avoid any sort of issues. If we get late 18th century infantry equipment to today it might fix the issue. Some people grind warthunder to get to the top so that will solve some issues you start with a Mannlicher M1890 carbine and end with a robo tank.

I think enlisted would have done better if from the start they started in WW1 and grind your way to modern era instead of running out of WW2. WarThunder could benefit from being a one stop shop game. WarThunder is somehow considered one of the most successful games out there even though it does not feel like it. Though it would be funny to see in a match Vietnam infantry slugging it out with late WW2 Germans with Japanese partisan guys running about with banzai sticks

Gaijin’s infantry game mode is already going to compete with a lot of well-established FPS shooters. But with a lack of communication its basically just Call of Duty without voice chat.

Lowkey, as someone who played enlisted I’d be perfectly fine with them merging enlisted into WT, as long as they transfer weapons/progress over and make compensation for certain premiums and event vehicles (some vehicles in enlisted are event/premium, while they’re Tech tree in WT, and vice versa). I gave up on Enlisted because they neglected smaller nations like Romanian, Hungary, Canada, and even the bigger ones like Great Britain and Italy. As an Italian Main in Enlisted, it just ruined the game for me.

The peoples call of duty

Israel infantry would be a prime example, Kar98s being fielded in the 70’s for snipers

Oh, that ain’t happening.

The WW2 Bazooka has the honor of out living its intended target and become a portable artillery. Though RPGs out classed it in almost everything a rocket with a pure HE warhead can help you remove a building or stop a machine gun.

Yes, maybe even earlier periods.
PS L3s would bring a lot of fun 😆

While you’re probably right, I feel that eventually it’ll most likely happen. The main problem lies within premiums and event vehicles. But i’d personally be fine with getting golden eagles for the premium LVT-1a I got in Enlisted. I think the difference in premium, TT, and event vehicles is one thing that holds them back from combining. I honestly think they’d be too greedy to give us any type of compensation and screw us, that have spent money in Enlisted, over!

For the guys who want to play WWII infantry, go play Enlisted. I don’t really want another long grind start from WWII or even before WWII.
