WW2 Eras Discussion
Continuing the infantry era discussions WWII era (1939 -1949), this is where infantry gameplay would likely feel the most complete and familiar within War Thunder. This period brings a full spectrum of standardized weapons, specialized roles, and combined arms integration, making it ideal for infantry mode. Players could expect a wide range of equipment including bolt-action rifles, semi-automatic rifles, submachine guns, light and heavy machine guns, anti-tank weapons, grenades, and flamethrowers, alongside essential tools like binoculars, radios, and field gear for coordination.
This era also opens up a lot of room for experimental and late-war developments, such as early assault rifles, advanced anti-tank launchers, night-fighting equipment, and other prototype systems that began appearing toward the end of the war. On top of that, field modifications could play a big role things like improvised armor, customized weapons, extra stowage, camouflage adaptations, or even ad-hoc equipment changes made by soldiers in the field. There is also a role for home armies and partisans in this era.
From a map perspective, WWII offers huge variety: urban combat in ruined cities, dense forests, open countryside, deserts, jungles, collonies and fortified defensive lines. This allows for different playstyles, from close-quarters fighting to longer-range engagements, all while integrating vehicles, aircraft, and infantry together.
Overall, this era provides the most balanced mix of firepower, variety, and tactical depth, making it a strong foundation for infantry mode. Curious to hear what others think what equipment, experimental gear, or types of maps would you want to see most in a WWII infantry setting?
