I propose the addition of a WWI/Interwar bracket featuring 0.0–0.7 BR tanks, planes, and armored cars from the WWI and early interwar periods. This bracket would be distinct from the main tech tree, offering slower, tactical, and immersive gameplay that stands apart from other BR ranges in the game.

Why Add This Bracket?

A7V_21

1. Gameplay Diversity

  • Slower, more tactical battles emphasizing positioning and teamwork.

  • A unique focus on machine guns and light cannons, requiring players to target weak spots on lightly armored vehicles.

  • Early aerial combat with biplanes and triplanes adds an immersive dynamic, including strafing runs and small bombs, as well as unique weapons.

2. Beginner-Friendly Environment

  • Simpler, slower vehicles make it ideal for new players to learn War Thunder’s mechanics.

  • Isolation from higher BR ranges creates a low-pressure environment for newcomers.

3. Historical Immersion

  • WWI and interwar vehicles have a very unique flavor of gameplay, appealing to history buffs and veteran players.

  • Maps inspired by WWI battlefields (e.g., trenches, craters, ruined towns) would provide a fresh and visually stunning experience.

Matchmaking

Separate Queue

A dedicated queue ensures these vehicles never face tanks or planes from the main tech tree beyond 0.7 BR.

Bot Integration

To keep queue times short, matches can include AI-controlled tanks and planes when necessary, similar to naval battles. Advanced AI behavior could make matches feel competitive and engaging.

Monetization Opportunities for Gaijin

1. Affordable Premiums

  • Cheap premiums (priced at $3–$5 USD) would be accessible to all players.

  • Examples: Fokker Dr.I (Red Baron), Renault FT-75 BS, Beutepanzer Mark IV, K-Wagen.

2. Historical Packs

  • Bundled vehicles with unique skins or crew voiceovers tied to specific battles or nations.

Potential Challenges and Solutions

Queue Population

  • Challenge: Ensuring enough players for matches.

  • Solution: Bots fill gaps, with AI mechanics tailored to WWI-style tactics to maintain immersion and engagement.

  • Challenge: Gameplay too slow.

  • Solution: Smaller, concentrated, maps. And perhaps, a special map that’s WW1-themed or two.

Conclusion

The WWI/Pre-Reserve bracket would be a win-win for both players and Gaijin. It offers a fresh, immersive gameplay experience while providing new monetization opportunities. Whether you’re a beginner, a history enthusiast, or a veteran looking for something different, this bracket has something for everyone.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback!

I love machine gunning British mark 1’s.

I love it 👍

Amazing idea, would love to see this.

I would suggest making it an entirely separate MM, because facing a 1.0 in a 0.0 would be like facing an F-104 in an Me-262. It wouldn’t work otherwise.

I’d also like the general progression to be similar to ranks I-III, because it would incentivize players to stay due to higher rewards.
