War Thunder Survey: What do People Enjoy About the Game, And What Don't They?

First, fair enough.

Second, I don’t really see what you mean here? These vehicles are spammed exactly because they’re premiums, and thus easier to get. Just look at the BMPTs, the premium one you see MUCH more often, despite the tech tree one being better.

Third, isn’t a new player buying a top tier vehicle exactly “rushing a bad player to high tiers fast so they can get deleted”? Even with premium, they’ll have more than enough time to get actually skilled, while being over 3 times cheaper and much more usefull as it’s not tied to a single lineup.

Fourth, I disagree. Gaijin has more than plenty of both time and money, this just feels lazy and greedy whilst looking terrible as well. It doesn’t really feel like they’re investing this money into anything else useful, apart from infantry which wasn’t the biggest hit. Maybe they’re doing something big in the background, but after more than half a decade of waiting I have my doubts.

Lastly, correct, we have evidence that Gaijin has deliberately modelled Russian equipment this way. This is in fact a bad thing.

I as a newer player am consider the f14D not because I’m lazy but because I don’t have time to play for 1k hours just to get to rank 6 new players are not trying to destroy teams or make the game bad for the more experienced players even a good teammate wont help sometimes I have a bit more experience due to too many test drives but gaijin stopped making a lot of low and mid tier so high teirs are the only ones that seem to be fun

Of course they’re not actively trying to, but that’s just how it works out. From my experience they add very little apart from making the grind easier, which the devs should just do outright. The last bit is very fair though, it’s a shame that they only ever advertise the very most moderns stuff.

I have "experience " otherwise I would be considering something lower teir so that would not be kicking myself to a high br due to a decent to good performance in nuke thunder game modes not to mention that no more free vehicles for that you have to bring your own for the next one so gajins plan is working perfectly on me and lots of other players😅

A couple things I would like to touch on:

I feel like there were a couple questions which I would have answered differently depending on Ground, Air or Naval, but generally the sentiment is the same so it’s no major issue.

I would also like to add my own two cents on the Russian Bias conversation because I know it can get very silly, and I myself have about 5k hours in the game by now. In my experience as a GRB player, Russia has always felt to me like some sort of Easy Mode. Especially at higher tiers. I think up until about 9.0, Russia definitely has a nice little gameplay niche that it has carved out for itself with the general lack of stabilisers, good but not incredible mobility and strong armour + post-pen damage, though there are some frustrating outliers along the way like the BMP, T34’s and some others being great benefactors of the old volumetric changes (not that there aren’t other culprits like the german viewports or gun mantlets).

Again though, generally I feel like both fighting Russian vehicles and playing them, they can so often feel grossly overpowered compared to other nations. I wouldn’t want to see them nerfed into the ground, but I struggle to believe they are truly this dominant in reality.

Another aspect that brings up for me is that I would really love more game modes and maps that encourage more teamwork and provide more opportunities to play to the specific strengths of our vehicles. This does a lot to give nation’s a sense of character within the game, though that’s a whole ‘nother tangent to be had that I’ll just cut off with “please stop homogenising tech trees”. I’m just reaching top tier for USA, I don’t want the Abrams in tech trees I’ve already grinded out. Same goes for the Leopards and T80s etc.

Copy paste is such a major issue for me personally. I get that I can just not play those vehicles (unless we’re talking about Israel which, ho-my-god Magachs…), but the matchmaker has pretty much devolved into some United Nations version of the Avenger Civil War simulator. It takes away so much of the immersion for me and that’s an element I always felt War Thunder had a ton of potential for. The other side of that coin is then the insane padding it brings to the grind. I am a premium player with plenty of premium vehicles that I’ve amassed over the years. Even for me, the progress feels Glacial. I have a job Gaijin. I should be able to make progress without no-lifing it when I spend this much. I can’t even begin to imagine completing 1 modern tech tree as a f2p player.

Traction! You can’t have a tank game where you can’t climb a hill. This was an awful fix to the problem and there are so many discussions out there about better solutions. Please sort this out.

Finally(!), Naval. Just give us some good game modes and you’re pretty much there. The community have incredible ideas on how to improve it. Please please please just listen to them more. We could go multiple major updates of no new vehicles, just testing game modes and most of us, let alone the curious newcomers who will have plenty left to research, will do just fine. You have all those expensive assets. Time to put the value in them.

Only thing I disagree on is the removal of the fake vehicles. I stand by that one. I have the R2Y2’s, but I’m not going to lament about missing the Tiger 2 with a gun too big for its turret because I wouldn’t want to see new cases like it pop up in the future. We saw with WoT how slippery that slope truly is.

Otherwise, I 100% stand by this. That’s a great review mate.

Specific ones that were more plausible in some ways(like the flakpanzer 341/coelian that had a wooden mockup turret and real hull) I do miss, especially because they then buffed them and now I face them constantly which completely eviscerates my team every time.

Flattened and molded into the perfect place to CAS users to play like a mindless drone, the people who play fighters then complained that other aircraft had roles that required less skill to fullfill.

So what did it end now? a 10 minute shootout with 5 minutes of manhunt.

I blame the poor tutorials, practically no concept other than “here’s how to fly” is learned.
and people just refuse to accept that they are new and don’t know a whole lot.

More than russian equipment being better than its IRL counterpart (even tho there are like bmpt), I think there is an issue with addition to Russia in compare with other TT.

For example, USSR got supersonic missiles (even a su39 in 11.3) while the rest only have subsonic missiles and glide bombs… or what about the spaas?? Russia always had the better spaas first, like the addition of strella, pantsir s1 and pantsir sm-sv (even tho pantsir and buk where NOT underperforming).

Gamemodes too arcade to be called an inmersive game. Feels like playing COD or WoT with only more detailed damage. Wheres my big ass combined arms mode gaijin??

About crashes and that type I havent experienced it. Only some random server connection issues and damage/pennetration issues.

I thought airRB was the best game iv played then I wised up. Nerfed every last bit of fun from the game.

Even the decompression stinks. 14.7 exists to protect premiums. 13.7 was having way too much fun

Yes it does… Leopard 2A5NL, 2A6NL, & Leclercs… That’s a lineup.
I highly doubt there are 100s of missing 12.7 options for even USA.

As much as I love War Thunder with all its flaws, and continue to enjoy certain BRs, at this point it is impossible for War Thunder to continue without the issues being addressed.

Knowing Gaijin in thier current, greedy state, they will probabaly make this poll dissappear becuase i does not allign with thier interests, and the fact that this is even a consideration is sad.

I absolutely love the WWII aspect of War Thunder and you can regularly find me bullying Hellcats in the A6M3 Model 32, but this game has become a very sorry sight. I did a test at top tier ground just to see which nations I do well in for 5 matches, playing the US, Germany, Russia, and Japan. And the results are sad.

US: 3 Victories, with 1 Kill average
Germany: 1 Victory with 0 Kills Average
Russia: 4 Victories with 4 kills average
Japan: 2 Victories with 2 kills average.

There is a clear difference. And it infuriates me, considering how poorly the other nations compete with Russia in top tier. The blatant Bias becomes clear as soon as you reach 3.3 BR. T-34s somehow absorbing shells that can clearly obliterate them in a single hit (Dicker Max anyone?), KV-1 armor being changed to Variable Thickness armor, so its actually impossible to exploit weak spots without using a 17pdr or a Pak-40.

Anyway my rant ends here. I Hope Gaijin actually looks at this and changes thier ways, but knowing them, they are going to either ignore it or outright make it dissappear.

The best way I can put the state of air rb rn is like leaving milk in the desert in a running microwave for 12 years, so much that made it fun back then is gone, sure respawning bases are good, but the match is over before they respawn, the fact the historical matchups have been fully removed since the second supersonic plane update does anger me too. The amount of lazy content and the speed the BP degraded into a joke is saddening.

I stopped playing War Thunder a few months ago; it seems like the game is completely broken and only getting worse. Today I find it extremely boring. I also feel like I ruined my life with the hours and money I spent on the game.

Russian bias is a skill issue dogwhistle.
Its really not. Russian bias used to be joke or at most just the idea that Russia had lot stacked lineups (but not some op vehicles). Recently however its very clear Gaijin insists in adding Russian vehicles that overperform. This mostly applies to top tier GRB/GSB with the additions of BMPT Pantsir SM, LMUR missiles, Stats of the KH-38 missiles or the real kinetic protection of Relikt. Main problem is however not the performance of these vehicles/hardware on their own but rather the lack of options for other nations. This is even more laughable when we consider Gaijin recent owns statement regarding MITL being removed for IR missile carrying helicopters next patch because not all nations would have access to them, yet when it comes to stuff like Pantsir SM its not an issue? Im not even going to touch on how BMPT has fake armor and autocannon performance or how there a sea of arterial nerfs on NATO tanks like Type 10/TKX having bugged gearbox, steering and acceleration since their release.
