Dunno - I never said anything of the sort, so no use asking me.
I just like pointing out the stupidity of saying “pay to win” when it actually isn’t that.
Probably because I understand that words have actual meanings - a bit old fashioned I guess.

How’s that then?
My experience starting new tech trees is that accumulated experience gives you a good idea wher to spend your crew resources.
I just got another crew for 1 nation, for example (not sure how - don’t think I purchased it!!) - but starting at crew level 1 I was able to rapidly advance it because I knew what to do - now that is obviously not a whole tech tree, but the principle is the same except your tech tree will also start at reserve levels so you get to beat up beginners on the way!.
The amount of gameplay hours required to get a crew even to level 10/15 for expert, much less 5/5+expert is an absurd amount of hours where you end up constantly dealing with black outs from high speed/high energy maneuvering.
I have won matchups I had no business winning (the person I fought literally commented on my clip) because they passed out unable to follow me in a turn.
Context: I was defensive the whole time (~2 minutes) in my Bf109 after losing sight of the P-51 I was diving thru the clouds and getting reversed. The clip is full of them missing me by barely a few shots with my monkeypulling my way out of it. I should have died a hundred times over, but didn’t because I had a near-max crew fighting a level 1 one. (https://www.reddit.com/r/WarthunderSim/comments/1jqllhx/german_planes_are_fun_shouldve_died_a_hundred/).
I run into similar situations either on offence or defence when flying my italian props, or my fw190 (which I keep on a separate crew slot to bf109s due to different use case/ability to fallback to a more meta plane if lobby is full of spitfires) and will run into with my P-38 once I stop putting off learning it (since my USA slots are Navy Fighter/Army Fighter/weird stuff (interceptors, cobras), and my third slot is neglected.)
They have removed golden wagers for ages now and even they where giving little, even if you manage by some miracel to get the max payout.
If you start telling me “War Thunder App” or friend invite links i rightfully laugh you out of the room now.
Nah, its even worse Pay to Win, its the “No, but actually Yes” kind of pay to win. Instead of makeing it impossible to get this stuff for free, they make it possible, but so hard, its practicly impossible to get.
So when they say its its “Free-To-Play” they don´t lie to you, worse, they tell you half-truths.
Gaijin’s progression curve is made so that you start spreading crew XP evenly early on, so the first few levels of nearly every skill are pretty cheap. 12-27 XP for half a level. It takes like 400 XP to push your crews to level 10 and around 500 XP more to push them to level 15. If you start maximizing skills from the start it takes ages (I do the same, I know), but that’s not really what the game intends you to do.
The game’s progression curve is also biased towards bigger nations with lots of planes to grind through as you’re bound to gather crew XP in the process, but it causes problems with smaller tech trees or people skipping content, especially those buying premiums.
As for it being pay-to-win, I’d say it’s not. Unless you also consider modifications to be p2w. The number of times I’ve lost a fight to my pilot blacking out or my tank not reloading 0.8 seconds faster are but a tiny fraction of the number of times I lost a kill because my guns didn’t have enough punch due to stock belts, or because my guns jammed (stock Hispano Mk.IIs are nigh useless) or because I’m stuck with bad missiles like early AIM-9s or AIM-7s while decent missiles are locked. Bonus points when I end up losing the kill to enemies in blue who do have those upgrades.
