War Thunder is pay to win

Dunno - I never said anything of the sort, so no use asking me.

I just like pointing out the stupidity of saying “pay to win” when it actually isn’t that.

Probably because I understand that words have actual meanings - a bit old fashioned I guess.

How’s that then?

My experience starting new tech trees is that accumulated experience gives you a good idea wher to spend your crew resources.

I just got another crew for 1 nation, for example (not sure how - don’t think I purchased it!!) - but starting at crew level 1 I was able to rapidly advance it because I knew what to do - now that is obviously not a whole tech tree, but the principle is the same except your tech tree will also start at reserve levels so you get to beat up beginners on the way!.

The amount of gameplay hours required to get a crew even to level 10/15 for expert, much less 5/5+expert is an absurd amount of hours where you end up constantly dealing with black outs from high speed/high energy maneuvering.

I have won matchups I had no business winning (the person I fought literally commented on my clip) because they passed out unable to follow me in a turn.

Context: I was defensive the whole time (~2 minutes) in my Bf109 after losing sight of the P-51 I was diving thru the clouds and getting reversed. The clip is full of them missing me by barely a few shots with my monkeypulling my way out of it. I should have died a hundred times over, but didn’t because I had a near-max crew fighting a level 1 one. (https://www.reddit.com/r/WarthunderSim/comments/1jqllhx/german_planes_are_fun_shouldve_died_a_hundred/).

I run into similar situations either on offence or defence when flying my italian props, or my fw190 (which I keep on a separate crew slot to bf109s due to different use case/ability to fallback to a more meta plane if lobby is full of spitfires) and will run into with my P-38 once I stop putting off learning it (since my USA slots are Navy Fighter/Army Fighter/weird stuff (interceptors, cobras), and my third slot is neglected.)

They have removed golden wagers for ages now and even they where giving little, even if you manage by some miracel to get the max payout.

If you start telling me “War Thunder App” or friend invite links i rightfully laugh you out of the room now.

Nah, its even worse Pay to Win, its the “No, but actually Yes” kind of pay to win. Instead of makeing it impossible to get this stuff for free, they make it possible, but so hard, its practicly impossible to get.

So when they say its its “Free-To-Play” they don´t lie to you, worse, they tell you half-truths.

Gaijin’s progression curve is made so that you start spreading crew XP evenly early on, so the first few levels of nearly every skill are pretty cheap. 12-27 XP for half a level. It takes like 400 XP to push your crews to level 10 and around 500 XP more to push them to level 15. If you start maximizing skills from the start it takes ages (I do the same, I know), but that’s not really what the game intends you to do.

The game’s progression curve is also biased towards bigger nations with lots of planes to grind through as you’re bound to gather crew XP in the process, but it causes problems with smaller tech trees or people skipping content, especially those buying premiums.

As for it being pay-to-win, I’d say it’s not. Unless you also consider modifications to be p2w. The number of times I’ve lost a fight to my pilot blacking out or my tank not reloading 0.8 seconds faster are but a tiny fraction of the number of times I lost a kill because my guns didn’t have enough punch due to stock belts, or because my guns jammed (stock Hispano Mk.IIs are nigh useless) or because I’m stuck with bad missiles like early AIM-9s or AIM-7s while decent missiles are locked. Bonus points when I end up losing the kill to enemies in blue who do have those upgrades.

Oh look, bushes make the tanks easier to spot and frag.

Please tell us what tank is this.

What tank? 😂

If you can’t see the tank, clean your glasses.

Also not sure why @REO_Speedwagon attempted to move goalposts in response to my post.

The bushes quite literally made the tank in that post easier to spot due to mismatch with the surrounding environment.

They do belong in WT, but I would say that there is need to shaft some monetization so it does not become overly advantageous.

So it would have been harder to spot it without bushes? And answer the first question please, what tank is that? Does he have a fast reload, a slow reload, can he pen your frontal plate?

I’m not moving any goalpost. you said this

No it doesn’t.
I can clearly see that’s a round turret tank with a NATO gun, I’d deduce Chieftain/Sabra almost instantly because of the barrel.
And my pattern recognition isn’t even good.

In response to this

it also completetly makes your tank unrecognizable when hull-down.

So go ahead and answer the question, since bushes are so detrimental that have the exact opposite effect. Your words not mine.

Make it so that you can grind it out with RP or something, and you can choose which bushes you want.

“Crew Skills make no difference at prop tiers/Just player lower BR.”

Scenario A:

Bf 109 F4 (4.0), nearly maxed crew (for sake of dogfighting)

What’s shown: 109 F4 sustains excessive G-s indefinitely without a hint of vignetting, surpassing 7Gs at times.

Scenario B:

C202EC (3.0), basically stock crew.

What’s shown: C202 tries to follow Yak (yak is following spitfire. C202 is trying to save spitfire from enemy on his six) and nearly blacks out while pulling ~5.5-6.5G sustained with a momentary 7G spike. Momentary loss of control, significantly reduced situation awareness from vignetting.

@AlvisWisla tagging you in particular because you voiced skepticism of how could G-forces affect one at low BR.

Thank you for proving my point with stock crew vs higher points in crew.
I appreciate the evidence that proves our positions correct.

Sav 20 at lower ranks.

Why am I seeing so many of those lately?

Hence there is a P2W / P2P aspect of crew levels and ace crews.

Look, I agree mostly but also know as a company they have to make money. Issue I see is its now ballooned into EVERYTHING for sale. The most glaring bullshit in this game is you break your neck to get the RP for a tank. Then break your neck to get SL to buy it. You buy it and its a smoking pile of shit until you can unlock the modules.

So, after all your work and time, you now have a tank that is basically unusable and when you do unlock everything its time to move on.

Biggest con in this game is not being able to simply repair your damn tank. That is a basic but they know people will spend at least on that to skip the time of being bent over the table.

Stock crew to expert crew [free to play] is a lot different than expert crew to ace crew.

Except there is still quite a big difference.
For example, 7.1s reload → 6.7s reload with most NATO MBTs at 7.7 - 10.0 is enough to outreload T-72s.
6.4s reload → 6.0s reload with the Leopards is enough to reload on-par with T-80s shooting 3BM42 / 3BM46, and outreload 3BM60 from T-80BVM.

Also level 15 / 30 / 45…(etc) crew (can’t get expert crew for those level crews for most tanks past that point either) is way worse than level 100 too, and so paying for crew points helps a lot.
