War Thunder Hottakes

i tell you what, you all get this, and the U.S Starts getting its " secret " space capable craft

its propulsion is realistic.

Sell the IP to publisher that know how to maintain big playerbase. Sell it to valve or fucking Aniplex, I have more faith in literal Gacha publisher than I believe in Gaijin.

They need to spend an update or 2 not adding a single new vehicle or big new mechanic or even map and instead go back and finish old game mechanics (like CCRP) and finish vehicles added in Previous updates (like the Tornado)

Funny story, I’ve actually seen that (or at least the lights in that configuration) back in the early 1990s. I was near Lockheed (Atlanta, GA)

Thats because its made by them lol. People have no clue what the U.S Has been doing. I know for a fact we have bases on other planets and outside the Solar System. People over here think its still about " global control and alot of other garbage, the U.S is passed all of that.

Hottake: CAS isn’t ridiculously unbalanced.

The idea that it is usually comes from people who think or act very certain ways about this game.

1: Players who have the notion that this is some sort of COD, dueling game with tanks, and that everything should be able to kill everything easily. These players usually also complain about light tanks that can’t pen heavies frontally and they refuse to flank (which isn’t as terrible of an idea considering how Gaijin makes flanking routes out of bounds sometimes, but still) and have no problem with HEATFS facing Jumbos and Tigers.

2: People who simply refuse to get good with SPAA and are passive about enemy planes. I saw some guy in another thread complaining that he was spawnkilled by an A-10 with guns 3 times. Brother, after the first death you should’ve taken action. I had a match of 8.3 Germany, where I died to a plane shortly after leaving spawn. Instead of crying about it, I acted on it, spawned a Gepard and blew all 3 of their CAS out of the sky. I used the LAV-AD yesterday and had similar results. Multiple aircraft downed.

Sometimes the solution really can be, “Just spawn SPAA”. Of course, once you mention that, they cry about how “wELL wHeN yOuR iN a tAnK yOu cAnT cOuNtEr iT”. That’s the point. Air Support is designed so you can take down tanks without being vulnerable to them, as other tanks are. That’s why we have SPAA in the first place. And that brings us back to the beginning, the game isn’t a duel between two players It’s a team balance, you have to work together to win. Different vehicles have different roles, Tanks aren’t supposed to engage CAS, and SPAA aren’t supposed to engage tanks. CAP isn’t supposed to engage tanks either, they bring down the CAS. And tanks, obviously, destroy tanks. You could make the argument that because tanks kill tanks, AND CAS kills tanks, that they are targeted more and die more often, but there are simply many more tanks than other types of vehicles. Overall the problem really boils down to Gaijin. Gaijin needs to encourage teamwork more, and add more balanced vehicles between nations, to keep one from having an advantage in more categories than others.

None of what you said here explains why CAS isn’t OP.
You’re just shifting blame to others and explaining what CAS is as it we didn’t know.

On your point that there are two types of people who complain: no.
There are way more.
There’s people who simply want to play ground vehivles exclusively.
There’s people don’t like dying through no fault of their own.
There’s people who don’t dislike the concept of CAS, but simply think it is far too cheap to spawn in. This is the camp I belong too.

This ties into your second ‘point’, which isn’t really a point but more of an explanation how CAS functions.
As you yourself said, CAS allows players to kill the majority of people present in the lobby without much concern for being downed. The exception to this would usually be players who are in an SPAA vehicle or players that are in another aircraft.

So what is the issue with this?

  1. CAS is fundamentally broken.
Now this isn’t to say it cannot be balanced, but rather it means that CAS, no matter what situation it finds itself in, will always be the superior threat to ground vehicles. CAS will always have far superior mobility, freedom of engagement and an easier way of killing opponents. CAS does not rely on direct hits and has the freedom to attack from the front, from above, from behind whenever it wishes and however it wishes from whatever height. Ground vehicles possess none of these luxuries and are thus practically always vulnerable, regardless of whether the tank driver is positioned well or poorly. SPAA is often brought up as the counter against CAS, but even that is secerely disadvantaged agains aircraft. SPAA still has to abide by the fundamental rules that ground vehicles work with, it cannot chase the aircraft and it is far more difficult to aim an SPAA vs a plane needing to drop a bomb without direct hit (often times not even needing to be close as SPAA is often times very flimsy). To put it shortly: SPAA still has to play at the CAS’s pace while in the majority of the time losing the ability to properly fight other ground vehicles. This is is without getting into specific SPAA too, where their anti-air performance can significantly differ.
So what is the issue with this?

  2. CAS is far too cheap.
With all that we have read in my previous point is it quite clear that CAS should be a reward for good play. Play well and you’ll get to be the superior hunter. Sounds fair to me, but this isn’t the case.
CAS requires the absolute minimal performance to be spawned in. A single cap and kill or two can always get you an aircraft that is fully armed within minutes.
You can even lower CAS spawn points with the scouting mechanic on light tanks.
What this means is that CAS isn’t a reward anymore, it’s a crutch. A very easy one to get at that.

So how do we solve this?
Simple: radically bump their spawn cost up. Double at the very least.
CAS should be strong, but it should be a reward. It shouldn’t be an easy way to get free kills and be a lobby admin.

I recommend that next time if you’re going to comment with such emphasis on certain words you at least are making an actual point. Here you just infodumped what many already knew.

Premium vehicles are psychological trick giving you illusion of faster progression while in reality they don’t. Players would be better of spading all vehicles in techtree (good or bad) instead of getting premium vehicle.

We like big numbers so when we play premium vehicle and see 100k SL and 20k RP our brain gets huge spike in dopamine and not realize it is not actually that good. I used to grind with premiums and was sitting at around 1 mil SL or sometimes below, struggling to get even SL to buy or crew what I researched.

Started spading everything currently at rank IV and I sit at comfortable 14mil SL. Game was designed so that players play and spade all vehicles. Lets look at say Italy IV air from spading all vehicles you would get 77740RP. Thats 3/4 of rank V plane on top of regular gains from playing.

On top of it playing all vehicles makes you better player. You get better idea what each vehicle can and can’t do, how to counter vehicles you face by exploiting what you learned instead of just spammig single premium.

Also “maining” a tech tree and not playing any other tech tree also makes you worse at the game.

So true. If you just spend your time here and play without the grind you can develop in a good way.
I even unlocked a Rank 8 vehicle with only Rank 3 vehicles. Of course, over 100 battles were necessary. But I had fun. I wouldn’t have had any fun on Rank 7 and it would probably have taken just as long, if not longer.
But a lot of people just want to get to the top because they think they’ll be the top dog in the ring and quickly realise “eh, no”. And then they look in the box of excuses as to why they failed. The only thing they don’t want to see is their lack of understanding of the whole game.

Their counter is SPAA, because that is a ground vehicle. You do not have to play CAS or CAP to play ground. No one is forcing you.

And guess what? CAS isn’t the only way to do that. Sometimes tanks will simply overpower youa nd you will lose no matter what. Sometimes people exploit bugs and kill you in unexpected ways. Sometimes the game just has bullshit that you die to. I had a Panther D UFP my T29 Heavy at distance yesterday. It isn’t my fault, there shouldn’t be anyway it can do that.

This is true

This isn’t. There are many threats to CAS in ground matches. SPAA, CAP, and even MGs can all shoot at CAS (except high tier because they fly too high for MGs, but CAP and SPAA still goes). You even acknowledged this yourself. There isn’t “no concern”, and

That isn’t an exception. Thats a counter. Ground RB is not meant to be played with tanks alone. It’s combined arms. You need teamwork and diversity of vehicles to win the match.

Planes are not invulnerable. They might not always be hittable, but they usually can’t attack while being in a position where they can’t be hit. Lining up a bomb or rocket is usually flying in a straight line, perfect time to shoot at them with SPAA. And with a CAP plane, even afterward isn’t hard to hit.

If using large bombs, yes, but that isn’t all that Air Support is. Most small caliber rockets require direct hits to deal damage, so do guns, missiles, and even small bombs.

And all of these have advantages and disadvantages. Attacking from front or side makes it easy for MGs and SPAA to shoot. Attacking from the back makes you vulnerable to CAP, and SAMs if playing high tier. Going high gives you less agility due to thin air and low speed, easier to be hit by SPAA and CAP. Going low means terrain and MGs, which are hard to dodge if you have an unmanuerverable plane.

Positioning well is relevant. A CAS aircraft will easily target someone sitting in the middle of an open field, easy to see. But behind cover? Trees, buildings, among foiliage, and map decor.

Usually true, mainly at low BR. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to do about it other than get skilled. It truly isn’t that bad, rather boring when theres a lack of aircraft. Most low tier gun SPAA shoot at too long of a distance, painting themselves a huge target while giving the CAS time to react and find them. If you position well and work of trigger discipline, SPAA works just fine. There will be a slight disadvantage, but it certainly isn’t as bad as people complain.

This is also a fair point, a 40mm is much harder to use than 2x 20mm or 4x .50s. But this is something Gaijin needs to fix in other ways. It’s not a CAS issue.

I disagree with this idea. Being good and getting an easier vehicle to do even better should not be the case. It should rather another approach, attacking on a different front. Another way to attack enemies, not a better way for all situations.

This really depends. Ordinance cost varies greatly with not much clear reasoning. best examples are things like A-1H and F-16. A-1H, with lots of bombs and rockets to choose from, has weirdly varying costs for different amounts of different types, and doesn’t always make sense. Same with F-16s. AGM-65s cost nearly twice as much as GBUs, but they do less damage, and if you use 65Gs, you get less munitions too.

So what your asking for means that good players will be able to get something even stronger and do even better. What your asking for is the opposite of balancing. Balancing it correctly would make it reasonable to achieve, and not much stronger than other vehicles.

With this idea, less players would get CAS, but most of them would be much better at it, and people would cry even harder about them.

If you actually knew these things you wouldn’t cry about CAS on the forum and then ask to make it stronger.

lol Imagine pushing for an indie dev to stop being indie.
That ain’t a hot take, that’s a trash take.

@Mahiwew
CAS is OP in top BR because it out-ranges all SPAA.
CAS isn’t too cheap, that is not and has never been the reason.
People stopped spawning helicopters despite spawn costs being the same, because SPAA is a major threat to them.
Spawn cost increases are a trash take, not even a hot take.

Hot take time:
Whenever a good SPAA gets added at a reasonable BR: Strela to 9.0 [should be 9.7 at most TBH], CAS addicts complain that they’re being killed 3km away from the battlefield when their Q-5L has an up to 15km engagement range.
Then the SPAA gets nerfed and CAS addicts don’t learn how to play their CAS.

So the players that put ANY effort into learning CAS become unkillable.
Out of the ground matches I’ve done in Q-5L I’ve died zero times to SPAA.
Of the ground matches at 11.7 I’ve spawned CAS, I’ve died once cause it was Abandoned Factory, and I did a bad maneuver for a 14km spawn from battlefield in my Tornado.

As long as I’m unkillable as a mediocre CAS player, I’m going to continue calling for SPAA to be reduced in BR until it’s an actual threat to me.

This is the most insane take in here tbh. Strela is THE best 10.3 SPAA, outpulling Stingers, point and click launch and auto guidance unlike Rolands. Sure, those few LGB droppers might get them, but it would kill the ability even spawn any kind of non guided munitions.

Tiny Tims are absolutely busted OP and should be removed from GAB, but GAB’s spawn system is better then GRB’s system. (For both aircraft and tanks)

Found the CAS addict.
All my SPAA takes are exclusively as someone that does not play SPAA due to their inferiority over my CAS platforms that I use almost every match above 9.0.

Shrimply play the Bkan in arcade, then you have no more CAS problems ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

CAS isn’t actually an issue overall; but it is an issue in the 6.0-7.0 range.

We don’t need new vehicles until we get BR decompression.

We need to see more thorough lower BR’s in tech trees, seeing almost all Interwar/WWII/Early Cold War equipment for all nation; instead of receiving new tech, maybe draw the line in the 60’s or 70’s. (one WWII vehicle off the top of my head that I’d like to see in game is the German 6-Rad, and it’s Half Track variant.)

We need to see some more realistic features on newer aircraft, such as data upload, radar locations sharing, possibly an AWACS, buddy lazing systems, and one of my personal favorites, multi-crew, Aka a Pilot/Weapons officer set-up, for two seat aircraft. (Would be massive fun in simulator mode)

Bigger maps, because in game engagement distance isn’t realistic, which is a common issue I’ve found with most maps.

A “true feel” simulator mode, meaning you are actually located inside the tank, and can visually see the interior, and have to use vision blocks and optics to see out of the tank, or unbutton/roof ride, to get full view.

Bow guns, also known as hull guns, being available and useable, or removed from the damage model.

That’s all I can think of for right now…

I got 7 air kills with the SLSGR 155 in just 3 minutes of playing it. Its an amazing anti-air for RB. I am by no means a good player either.

AB its even more busted due to the lead marker lmao

I use it a lot to simply deny the enemy helicopters, its fun. Sadly low ammo, but its fiiinnee…

(Iirc the SAV could use proxy as well, wish it could ingame)
