War Thunder Has a Problem – And We Are Part of It

Yeah that was worded a bit badly… lack of sleep tends to do that.

If only a4b didnt fight 2s6 in 10_2. Or f111a/f didnt fight pantsir sm sv in 11_2. That thing wasnt even made for such threats.

Pantsir S1 needs to be 13.0 and SM needs to be 14.0

It’s not even funny how undertiered they are

Prob sad truth, people you see on the forums are a minority of the entire playerbase.

Thank you for making a reasonable post without all the emotional drama
that usually comes along with this type of topic.

I have been playing literally every day(except a couple weeks total) since
Feb. 2014 . . one or two updates after they changed from 20 tiers to 5.

5 nations, 5 tiers and just planes. Drastically different from what we have now.
But the changes have generally been pretty gradual, nothing “crazy” all at once.
Giving players time to adjust and absorb new things and get the hang of them.

I really enjoyed Tank CBT, it was awesome. I can honestly say the same thing
about Naval CBT. The timing for both and my account development went
hand in hand and made for a smooth transition and welcome additions for
both of those modes. I even kinda enjoyed WWM when it first came out, but
it was not what I, or I think most players, had envisioned/hoped for.

All that being said, a lot of it comes down to one basic premise: the utter
and huge diversity of the player base and Gaijin’s inability to communicate
with them in any meaningful manner.

Gaijin is/was & always will be handicapped/hindered by the simple fact,
that no matter what they do, they will never please the entire player base.
Just ain’t gonna happen.

And even if somehow they developed a meaningful and useful way to
communicate with more players, sorting thru that kind of data of so
many different players and what they might want would be a nightmare.

I wish I had some good answers to some of this stuff. I have ideas about
what I would change here and there. But like so many others, those things
are primarily just things that would make the part of the game that I play
better for me . . .
I see this all the time here in the Forum. Players just wanting things for
themselves and not really concerned for others or the game itself.

In the end, it should not be a “battle” between the players and those that make the game . . . in that scenario . … someone loses . . . not a good option imho

But, if both sides do not make the effort to make good changes . .
I don’t see much else becoming different than what we have now . . .

But I will still play, it’s more than just a “game” to me too . . hobby, duty
whatever you might call it . . . it’s just what I do.

My biggest complaint is the very obvious favoritism that comes into play while modeling these tanks. How long have NATO bug reports sat on the back burner while other tanks are fixed within weeks. NATO nations seem to be getting the short end of the stick in terms of survivability with every single new update. (And don’t even get me started on the proposed v3 Abram’s hull armor). When I play Russia 12.7 I feel almost indestructible (and yes before you all come to bite my head off about reload time and reverse gears I understand they’re worse in that aspect but that is the exception not the standard). Probably 60% of my nukes have come from playing 12.7 Russia. With that being said I tank more shots that should most definitely destroy my tank than any other top tier nation I play. With the paper thin hulls of all nato tanks and especially with the turret baskets and fcs, it makes it so I rarely ever have to ads. Playing 12.7 Russia is like playing the game on easy mode and the other NATO nations feel almost unbearable. For example why is a 30mm penning my leopard or challenger or abrams from the front. And it’s not just the tanks they have the best/most fun planes, they have the best SPAA by far. Why is it the burden of proof is so demanding for NATO tanks in terms of armor and penetration values of apfsds rounds, while most Russian sources are shaky at best. I’m tired of playing Russia when I just wanna chill and play top tier, I want other nations to be fun and viable to play.

Out of the almost 7 years on this game, my biggest issues are removal of unique features. The leopard and Abrams at top tier suffer from this the most with the next major update. We see vehicles in the US Germany or USSR just thrown out every where to fill gaps in small trees which yes it makes sense, they should have some modification to ensure there’s a difference. For example, several Czech T72s where modified which would be Perfect to go to smaller nations if they need holes patched. Along with other vehicles they just take one vehicle dont change it add a camo and paste it.

Second issue is the maps, we have had 1 game mode for GRB, Two if you count single point maps.
The map design from a top tier perspective is trash, most of the maps are to open, or to close. The close city maps aren’t at all good representations of what a city actually looks like, and flat maps have no terrain and lead to gross map spawn camping.

Not to mention in BVVDs QNA, he claims that at “high levels” stats show that warthunder players like small maps. Which is debateable seeing how many posts on this forum mention the terrible map design.

One game that has balance map design IMO is squad,

Now this is one of the worst maps in squad yet it has more alleys and freedom of movement then some of gaijins best maps

Both teams have a chance to spawn camp and out flank each other, this also gives amphibious vehicles a use since you dont have to use one of the 5 bridges in the map as highlighted at the bottom.

Now for warthunder,

Here we see less alleys and movement and really only 3 solid ways to go throughout the map. Take in mind, on the map from squad i didnt highlight every road.

ARB is even worse, only real win condition now is complete elimination of all enemy players.
Only other condition is killin ALL ai units, which includes the tanks which tend to requiere a bomb for each one and you can add they spawn on convoys (which means, a LOT of tanks) AND the rare “Pillbox”, basically inmortal to any kind of weapon short of a 1000kilo bomb.

BVVD also mentions WW2 BRs are too bloated and have too many vehicles to add, and that they will basically drip feed an event/premium vehicle every once in a while. (on the 6:12 mark, and at 6:48 and 23:50 you’ll see BVVD’s explanation on maps shrinking)
Q&A with War Thunder Game Director Viacheslav Bulannikov!

For copy paste yes, air is much worse but maps in ground are borderline unplayable, between invisible trees to spawn camping, Id much rather fly in air in the be on the ground at least from a top tier stand point.

I think this is my first ever message here from the time when I started playing War Thunder back in 2014.

The game is in a bad state and is repeatable - it’s addicting only because of the grinding aspect which combines with a dopamine spike of unlocking new stuff. Perchance what also adds up is that we all like tanks, explosions, guns and stuff.

Gaijin has unfortunately lied to players over the years repeatedly - and there are more than 4/5 examples I can think of only off the top of my head. Changes wanted and submitted in the forums (or what’s being discussed here) won’t happen - simply because they don’t fit their business model. If they will - it only will be by a margin (some gamemodes, promises, etc… maybe a “map” of changes that they would like to implement [that’d be cool!]). Simple as that.

The playerbase often is unfortunately silenced and not taken into account - at least according to my observations. Although that also doesn’t mean - that we’re not listened to at all. Some changes are implemented, though as stated previously in a way that still somehow profits Gaijin.

Video this, video that, yadda yadda yadda - a video is not needed to see the problem. It’s just the fact that I personally think we receive the “cattle” treatment and are seen only as a way for Gaijin to profit. True - I’ve sank thousands into this game during my gaming time, but recently - even though I’d love to support the game I love(d) - I find it hard to do so, because of the choices that the developers and/or management makes.

The game has lost it’s immersion and realism feeling long ago. It’s heading towards an “arcadey” tank shooter game which is different only because “muh, damage model and combined battles with planes!”. Never forget World War mode - probably the best thing that has ever happened to War Thunder.

Billions must purchase Senrai Maidens packs. Btw - good PR response on the AI usage.

PS.

I truly believe in Gaijin and I wish the game nothing but success - with all of us onboard. Maybe it’s time to tone-down on the additions and focus on fixing known and provided by the community problems. I’m fine with not receiving new vehicles for half a year…

if that means the World War mode will come back! ;) Hope to see only good things come out of this.
