The VT5’s LWS doesn’t seem to work against missiles. I think it only reacts to laser rangefinders, but at this point I’m not really sure.
Both Mi-35M’s only use SACLOS ATGM missiles, those do not use lasers. So, you will not get a LWS alert from those missiles.
Semi-automatic command to line of sight Wikipedia link, not War Thunder specific, but if you are interested in more info.
Further, the Mi-35M does not have a laser designator, just tested in a test drive. (Impossible for the Mi-35M to trigger a laser warning, even if they wanted to.)
There are definitely other Heli missiles that use lasers, like the Hellfires. You should get a warning from those.
IR, TV and GNSS missiles also will not give a warning, like those SACLOS missiles from the Mi-35M’s.
This also appends with the 9M120-1 (bmpt atgm) I just used this clip since it was my last battle tomorrow I will post that.
I am pretty sure that is also a SACLOS missile. In match, can’t check right now.
You were right about the mi35 I will post tomorrow the clip of the 9M120-1 since this one is actually beam riding
9M120 is SACLOS
9M120-1 is laser beamriding
HRM, check out this thread. Looks like SOME Beam Riding missiles trigger LWS, while others do not. Might be bug, might be “intentional” I can’t tell lol:
Peak gaijin inconsistency
A couple of factors to consider
it depends what kind of beam it’s using, missiles like the Kh-66 use a radar beam,
also beam riding guidance lasers are often too low power for LWS systems to detect, so it depends on the both the power of the guidance laser and the sensitivity of the LWS,
also the missile guides by positioning itself between the laser emitter and the target which will at least partially shield it from the LWS sensor.
no idea if any of that’s accounted for in game though.
Here is the clip of the 9M120-1 not giving any warning on my LWS. Tomorrow I’ll try to get a friend and test which missiles trigger the LWS.
