I have VR mode always toggeld on in WT. When I launch with headset connected, it automatically opens in VR, if I have the headset not connected (for tanks and ships), it automatically starts in desktop mode.

No, I don’t use the link in VD as you do at 0:44. I simply connect VD. Then I start WT via my desktop shortcut.
I’m not sure about the function of SteamVR. Can you also start WT without SteamVR on your system?
I have the suspicion that maybe VD and SteamVR cause a conflict, but I’m no specialist or savvy enough to really know…
I uninstalled steam vr and the same thing happens, when you lunch the game dose it change from desktop view into vr view?
What I noticed in your vid is that the whole connection of VD takes very long. In my case it’s a matter of realyl just 2-3 seconds, and is done aotomatically: VD streamer app starts with windows, on the headset i simply need to start VD, no additional steps or settings required since I’ve installed…

(well most of the time, sometimes BattleEye blocks it, but then when I try again it comes through. That’s very rare however, maybe 5% of all tries)

If you are reinstalling anyway then try the standalone version without steam to avoid steamVR problems.
And if you have openXR installed, also remove it.
All you need is the game and Virtual Desktop. It does everything.
Then select the VDXR codec in the VD app on your PC.
and launch the game from the launcher.
If it sill starts in flat mode, open VD (flat button on left controller) and klick on “Switch to VR”
I think there is something messed up with steamVR, OpenXR etc…
Just remove everything you dont need
Still the same issue after i reinstalled WT from there website rather then steam and VD on both quest and desktop streamer

I I was having the same problem, and switching from DirectX 12 to Auto in the launcher tab fixed it.
hmm thats strange.
There should be the “Switch to VR” when you open VD ingame.
Is your VD app on the quest 3 and on the PC up to date?
Did you remove OpenXR, Opencomposite and all the extra VR stuff?
And yes, try DirectX11.
If that does not solve it, Im also clueless, sorry
last thing to try if everything fails is to force WT to start in VR
Just paste “C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer\VirtualDesktop.Streamer.exe” “C:[War Thunder folder ]\aces.exe” into a notepad text file, then save it as a .bat file. Then run it from there.
also change the codec to HEVC, h264 is the dodgiest of them
Still no luck, i tried using a virtual machine with a fresh windows install and only WT and VD, but the game wouldn’t launch because the VM can only have up 250MB of vram lol.
What rig do you have? Is it enough to run Quest 3? WT uses around 10 gigs of VRAM in VR. However it is possible to set the GPU to use DRAM and VRAM.
Maybe ask in the VD discord. They helped me once in 10 min
Instead of a VM, try just creating a different windows profile (you said this used to work, right?)
Don’t delete anything you have now, just create a profile to test it - if it works - at least you know where the problem is (your profile).
