Of course not. VR is a niche in a niche (SIM).
As long as it does not contribute to RB, where the money is, no effort will be invested.

Oh boy how I stand corrected: Obviously I’ve never looked close enough when testing Virtual Desktop. Did so now (for MSFS2024), and in WT it’s absolutely breathtaking! Much better resolution and perfectly crisp image! Stuff I always thought was just fuzzy because of general VR resolution is now crystal clear!
(Still got an issue with MSFS2024 though, which worked also perfectly for two days, now crashes on the headset after a few seconds. Ah well…)
how is it better than the native VR environment you use?
While native image is always slightly blurred (especially noticable on small writing on gauges and HUD), with Virtual Desktop the image is much sharper, really as if you’d look at a monitor. This is also very noticable in hangar, where with the native method (Quest Link), one sees for example almost no lines and rivets on the aircraft, with VD everything is clearly visible and sharp.
Staring up/connecting is fast and uncomplicated: Start the VD app in the Headset, 5 seconds later you’re connected and directly on the desktop. With quest link I needed to do two clicks more just to getting it to connect, then once connected needed to switch to the desktop view.
With Quest Link I often had the issue that che connection could not be made (every 5th connection or so). The I’d have to restart the headset, or the PC, or both. With VD I never had any issues.
Size, position and curvature of the virtual desktop in VD is very easily adjustable.
I saw somewhere it was compatible with Windows Mixed Reality but when I tried it there were no options, there must be more to it for WMR to work…
I’m sure most my issues can be fixed with a new rig.
Thanks for the tip about VD nevered tried before on my Quest3 now that i did i won’t go back to link.
I got better graphic better fps and less lag.
It was the same for me, nicer textures as well
I’m experiencing an issue where War Thunder launches correctly on my desktop, but the game does not appear in my Quest 3 headset. It gets stuck at the “Next Up” screen on the Quest 3, and no VR content is displayed, even though SteamVR detects my Quest 3 correctly. I’ve tested other VR games, such as No Man’s Sky, which work fine, so this seems to be specific to War Thunder.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Despite these efforts, War Thunder still only launches on my desktop and never enters VR on my Quest 3.
Please advise on any further steps I can take to resolve this issue or if there’s a known issue with VR support on the Oculus Quest 3. Thank you for your assistance!
If you have a good enough WiFi connection for air link, I strongly recommend virtual desktop.
You don’t need steam VR, OpenXR, and even the meta app with it and get rid of all the loads from them.
I’ve tried using airlink but the game doesn’t open on the quest 3 just on my desktop
i just tried virtual desktop and the same thing happens, the game opens but doesn’t go into vr mode
If you are using steam go into the game options on steam and select the launch mode as “manual game updater” , urumoch game from steam library then in the WT app make sure VR mode is enabled and try to launch the game
That was one of the first things i tried but still the same issue, it doesn’t go into vr mode
Use the VDXR with HEVC codec setting in the VR Desktop launcher options. It also gives a 10-15% performance gain compared to SteamVR.
Thanks for the suggestion! I tried using VDXR with the HEVC codec in the Virtual Desktop launcher options, but unfortunately, it didn’t change the issue. War Thunder still launches on my desktop and doesn’t enter VR mode on my Quest 3.
Other VR games, like No Man’s Sky, work fine, so it seems like the issue is specific to War Thunder. I’ve also tried launching the game both through SteamVR and directly via the Meta app (Oculus runtime), but it remains stuck on the “Next Up” screen in the headset.
If anyone has any other suggestions or knows of a fix, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks again for the help!
did WT ever start up in VR?
No not at all
the game runs fine but only on my pc or in desktop mode in virtual desktop
Did you start WT via steam or via virtual desktop?
If over steam, check if its set to VR
(right click on WT, properties…)
When the game runs and you open the Virtual Desktop screen (menu button on left Q3 controller), there should be a button for “switch to VR” or something like that.
Another thing you could try is the standalone version of WT.
There is a switch for VR in the launcher.
