Visibility % Stat. Something that has been bugging me for years

Thank you! Finally, someone talks about the topic at hand, providing more examples showing how senseless the visibility stat is for some vehicles.

Because is Russian obviusly…

Since there are many different posts arguing one way or the other about visibility in RB, here is definitive proof that Keen Vision does affect visibility in Ground Realistic Battles. By changing the distance enemy tanks are rendered. It’s NOT just for Ground Arcade battles.

First the wiki and devblog:
https://wiki.warthunder.com/Visibility_mechanics

Second, here is a video showing exactly how the render distance is affected in Ground Realistic Battles by the Keen Vision stat/Visibility/Improved Optics Modification (vehicles that can scout) and/or any other visibility stats:

Well… Your argument would be sound if you weren’t citing a news blog from an update where Realistic had player markers.
Yes, GRB had player markers back in 1.53.
Yes, that article details the ranges at which nametags will appear, much to the same fashion as they do in current-day GAB.

Your own article even states that;
“the entire system of detection and recognition (transmitting markers) has been fully updated”

I’ve already started out with a response to this, but I’m mentioning just to keep the flow of my comment smooth.

This is an update where nametag visibility was reworked, along with registration of server-side entities as a whole. The entire point you’re trying to prove is irrelevant, as this article is detailing PLAYER MARKERS AND NAMETAGS, not rendering enemy vehicles.
It even blatantly states that it’s detailing player markers in your own screenshot…

Render distance has no relation to crew skill whatsoever, it is a static figure that is purely controlled by your config and initialization blocks. The only way to change your render distance is via the graphics settings, or by manually inputting a figure of 2.2~6.6 in the game’s directory.
The snippet of the video you’ve linked specifically has no relation to crew skill. Even then, it’s a wildly bad test. There is no proof of a crew swap, the static vehicle used for testing appears in 2 different spots with differing concealment, and the one reason why it’s de-rendering to begin with is because of a mix of the render distance multiplier and the fxtarget value.

I still think that is wrong, and wrong. However, I did not know about the markets in GRB before the patch listed on the visibility wiki. If that information/wiki is out of date, it needs to be updated.

All the guy in the video changed was his Keen Vision skill, you offer no evidence to refute what is shown in the video other than conjecture/“what if’s” and your personal opinions. “No proof” is exactly what you are doing. Please, share links/wiki/devblogs/documents. Anything other than your own personal opinions.

Amazing how many people refuse to be open minded to different facts/documents and evidence. No skin off my back for those who wish to gimp themselves with low visibility skills in GRB.

(Also you give no documents or proof for any of your claims, specifically about changing data in the game directory. Any claims without supporting documents or links are just hearsay, and useless.)

@Stona_WT Good morning/evening! Is there a dev and/or someone who could answer this question definitively? A devblog post or news article with specific details would also be greatly appreciated. There are many people spreading opinions without any evidence in all directions about the effect of vision skills/stats like “Keen Vision” as it applies to Ground Realistic Battles. Everyone would benefit from a direct answer from someone involved with the game.

Thank you! Cheers.

That information isn’t out of date, you took it entirely out of context and tried applying it to something it has nothing to do with.
In 1.53 there were nametags in realistic battles.
The entire article details the rework of nametag visibility and spotting mechanics.

All the guy said is “here is this, here is that”. There is no definitive change provided to the audience apart from a small graphic representing crew levels, there was no detailing into the exact stats that those crew levels offer. It’s entirely unsubstantiated.
You cannot refute a lack of empirical evidence.

I’ve already shared the exact figures you can change in the config to increase the render distance yourself. Do you honestly need me to hold your hand through it?

Right? I can’t believe the kinds of people who will ignorantly wander into the forums, link devblogs that have no relation to the topic whatsoever, then take a 10 second clip from a video using homemade effects as definitive proof of a single statement they say.

I’ve given you the exact file name that you can change these settings in, as well as what lines to change.
I do not need to provide “documents or proof”, as there is no need for it. Simply because you ignorantly posted an irrelevant devblog does not mean I have to respond with a similar link. I’ve described the factors of the spotting system in detail to you.

You ignoring this is simply you ignoring this.

I think you’re finally becoming self aware!
