US F-5E should get AIM-9P-4

if it gets better 530s, I think it’d be fine at 12.0. otherwise I see your point, 11.7 could be fine for it as it is now

i don’t think the earlier blocks of the F-5Es could use the 9L of which were given the P-1s - P-5s of which for the P-4 and P-5 used the L and M seeker heads, however, the F-5Ns/F-5Fs/ aggresor F-5Es were upgraded to use the AIM-9L, so it really depends, we keep the intended block model F-5E we have in game then P-4, if we get a agressor 2006 upgrade, then AIM-9L, or if we get one of the F-5E+ tiger 3s (F-5N in US service) that the navy bought 2 years ago, then possible 9M

thanks for the input! i dont think we should get anything more than even the 9L on the US F-5E though, even as an event vehicle, because as we can see with something like the F-5TH, it is not very good because of its extremely lacklustre airframe at its BR (which even the F-5E has a problem with due to being very slow), so a potentially 11.7-12.0 F-5 with only 2 9Ms would be very bad imo

in the US tech tree, it would only have at most 4xAIM-9Ms as we never put any ARH/SARH on our F-5s only Fox 2s, so it would be more of a baby F-16 and be around the same BR as the F-5E already, at least for ARB, as it would still get the LGBs Lantirn, AGM-65G/Ds (maybe Hs), but it would end up being a light cas machine similar to the F-16A block 10 but lighter and more limited bombs (it would just have 4xGBU-12s, 2xGBU-16s, 4xAGM-65D/G/B, 2xAIM-9Ms, might mouse, Zuni, napalm, dumb bombs 500-2000, external fuel tanks, and targeting pod) would most likely sit at 11.7 in ARB and 12.0/12.3 in GRB

But the F-5E FCUs were upgraded F-5Es

…so is the Swiss F-5E in its state in game.

yeah i can see that happening, i would like to even, it’d be cute for GRB but mid for ARB (I don’t think it’ll get away with 4x IRCCM missiles at 11.7, most likely 12.0 owing to its horrible FM compared to the 12.3 JH-7A which also gets 4x IRCCM missiles)

yeah what does that have to do with anything

Su-22M3, which is far faster, gets 6 R-60MKs at 11.0. I don’t see how an F-5 on a barely supersonic airframe would be an issue with just two.

The US F-5E will never get the AIM-9P-4 because it is an American aircraft. The AIM-9P and all versions of it are export weapons. Gaijin will never give a US jet AIM-9Ps, nor should they. As numerous people have said in this thread, the FCU is much more in need of a bump up than the American one is in need of a upgrade.

It shouldn’t receive regardless because aircraft below top tier should be changed primarily for historical accuracy and balanced using BR changes, not given better missiles because someone feels like it.

except some AIM-9Ps were kept in USAF inventory, and US aircraft were certified to be able to use them

eg.

the F-15 example doesnt list P-4 because it is an earlier manual

so yes, by gaijins rules of compatibility (and the fact that it is listed in their manuals) most US jets with 9J should also have 9P and some later ones should have P-4

The only reason USAF aircraft were certified to use 9Ps was for situations where the base the aircraft was at had run out of USAF stock 9Js, 9Ls, etc., and were down to using foreign stocks of 9Ps. I wasn’t aware of USAF having ever stocked 9Ps, and regardless, it doesn’t make sense for any USAF aircraft to have it as a top weapon, as that aircraft would have been using 9Ls or 9Js (equal or better missiles anyways) except in extreme circumstances.

The issue I’m pointing out is not compatibility of the weapon, anyways. I would bet you that numerous aircraft could be eventually determined to be cross compatible with various weapons, but that doesn’t mean Gaijin should add them. The F-5E we have in game vaguely represents a USAF training F-5E from the mid-70s. A substantially better reason than “the FCU is better” is needed if you want to give it missiles that the US was never planning to take into action in a best case scenario. If you think the US F-5E isn’t good enough at 11.0, you should argue for it to go down in BR, not argue to further compromise the limited claim to historical accuracy WT has nowadays.

Su-22s are also barely supersonic bud. It’s also a super heavy attacker (literally triple the F-5A’s weight)

It can go mach 1.3. That’s not “barely” supersonic.

Also don’t really matter how heavy it is. It’s faster and has better missiles.

It “can” go mach 1.3, but it never reaches that in a practical match. Literally flew it 5 minutes ago. It struggles to go past mach 1.1. You “thinking” it goes mach 1.3 does not make it so.

Also funny how you mentioned the Su-22s when… the MiG-21Bis exist, which goes mach 1.5?

Yeah sure… Su-22 is faster in a straight line… just don’t mention that it takes almost 2 minutes at altitude without turning to even get there… then lose all that speed in 5 seconds if you turn.

ok so if you want to hold US planes to that standard everyone else should be too

but thats not how the game is right now, currently everyone else’s planes can get missiles based on compatibility, while that doesnt seem to be the case for US aircraft

because the number of planes in the game that use missiles the operating country never had is a lot, and people dont seem to have a problem with other countries getting missiles that they never used but the plane is compatable with; but then whenever its for something in the US tree all of the sudden people freak out and deny it even if the weapon was tested by the US and certified on the platform

I would GLADLY hold every aircraft from every nation to that standard if I was in Gaijin’s position. That issue isn’t quite as widespread as you’re saying, anyways.

I know that (for example) a lot of German and Italian jets get AIM-9Js that absolutely shouldn’t, but the problem doesn’t get better by saying “let’s just start adding missiles to this or that [for very little reason]”. At least in those cases the missile was added to make the plane playable. The F-5E in the US tree is a dandy little aircraft that doesn’t even need the change to be competitive. Adding P-4 or L sidewinders to it would make it move up and make it less fun to play.

Once again, I will ask why you wouldn’t want a BR change instead if you think the aircraft isn’t good enough at its current BR.

Comparing a Su22 with a F5E should be a crime.

Comparing a mach 1.3+ plane with six all aspects two a mach 1.01 plane with two rear aspects should be a crime.

it is though
especially with air to ground weapons
