Update 2.55.0.38

Or, the dev’s could come up with sounds that work, and then just stop working on new methods of having the sound presented every other update, which tends to break or cause even more issues.
The silent tank thing has been going on for ages, it’s not new.

I agree, whether your on PC or console, the sounds should just work the same for all platforms.

They also need to just implement better sounds. Only reason I use a sound mod is for unique and accurate RWR sounds for different aircraft and the correct VWS on the Typhoon. Also the missile cue sounds also sound a lot nicer in most sound mods.

If Gaijin didnt just use the same sound for every aircraft and placeholder VWS everywhere, I suspect they would be less popular for air mains

I agree.

That’s the exact reason I sought out different mods, my current favorite being RCSM. It has just the right amount tone, and their aircraft engine sounds are phenomenal. Does it provide an advantage? Maybe, but the biggest advantages is that I can tell the type of aircraft that is coming, unlike the default where everything seems to be just a whistling sound.

Definitely! The RCSM mods sound provides just another level of immersion into the game. Right now with the default, I feel it’s just monotone and dull.

I use IASM, but there is a version designed to be coupled with RCSM, I am tempted to do so if/when sound mods become enabled again.

The only possible advantage I can think of for aircraft is in ASB where missile sounds can be a little more audible, giving unrealistic situational awarness, but I feel that is more an unintentional side effect than something deliberate

First of all, a few years back, you could hear people sneaking up on you, you could hear idle tanks too. I tried that, i made a makeshift mod that just brought back the 2024-ish sounds, and i could hear enemies more clearly. So saying “some mods make you hear enemies better” is funny, knowing that gaijin literally made the game unplayable by changing the engine sounds and other sounds too over time. Second, most mods literally make it worse for you to hear, the “realistic” mods make you learn from the start all the new engine noises and their matching tank/nation. It literally makes it more complicated and harder. Not everyone that kills you is using mods or cheats.

Without mods you can’t locate idling tank engines, except you’re next to it. Without mod, you also can’t decrease your own tank’s eninge to almost zero. Unmodded WT ofc makes it possible to use 3D sound, but its quite restricted in range, idling or not…and ofc your own engine sound tends to drown out enemy engine sounds.

I used a meme missile sound mod so whenever a missile was coming towards me I would hear Saul Goodman which is terrifying in its own way lol

Haha, yeah that probably is on the side of sound mods being a little exploity

It definitely was, helped me notch earlier. Idk how Gaijin would balance this issue but I guess it exists currently for anyone to take advantage of.

Perhaps that is exactly what these changes they are working on will entail. I just hope they dont gut them for the features which are really awesome

Maybe, but my game was crashing constantly with an older sound mod when the update dropped. I think they’re focused on making a way for sound modders to check their mod for compatibility. If they do fix the sound exploits I would be sad that I can’t hear random memes when I fire missiles lol

Tell me you know nothing about mods without telling me you know nothing about mods. For the first part, i addressed it already, the game WAS like that, you COULD hear idle tanks and people flanking you, but it was changed and broken because… well if it ain’t broken, break it.

You cannot reduce your own engine noise to zero without it being an inconvenience. Because multiple vehicles in game share engine sounds. If you reduce to the minimum yours, it will also reduce to the minimum the ones of your enemies that have the same engine noise, because they are linked. You cannot change that, that is how the sound in this game was built.

Edit: you can however reduce your gun firing sound to the minimum, because the game has a sound for “ai players” (anyone but you) and the actual gun sound (that’s yours only). This brings little to no advantage whatsoever. This is exclusive to gun firing sounds, it doesn’t apply to engine sounds.

This is not the right way to approach modding or anything in general. Disabling something outright for everyone done on the behalf of issues experienced by a minority should never be used as a remedy. If an individual is having issues with their specific sound mods, they need to contact the mod creators or disable it themselves. This lies solely on the end user and not Gaijin to overreach like this. A warning is fine, but to disable it for all is overstepping. My enjoyment of ARB without RCSM+IASM has drastically decreased because of how terrible everything sounds now. Please do better.

I mean I use sound mods in War Thunder and Enlisted, not to have an advantage, but because the sound mods make the game sound better with what I want. But I’m not gonna get upset over the loss of the sound mods like most have, cause at the end of the day this is a game, which people forget. Your right as well people also forget to check settings

Love how the rest of us have to suffer cause other players had a skill issue with installing the sound mods. I’ve used OPEX and RCSM(not at the same time obviously) along with crew sound packs and never had a issue.

I was using OPEX,RCSM, IASM and crew voice mods at the same time and never had any issue despite mixing all of them.

Same for me, i literally made and used my own mods, customized to my taste, made the game 100x better and entertaining, everytime i had an issue because of mod mixing, i literally just deleted what was problematic and it went back to normal.

already figured out how to bypass it. at least with RCSM.

They need to swallow their pride and get some of these sound modders to work with them. What some of these modders do is amazing. Or atleast give the modders more control, like being able to ad VWS to any aircraft not just the ones Gaijin allows.

This is what I use, you get the best of both worlds and it sounds amazing.

But that’s the thing, everyone CAN get a headset. Not everyone CAN get mods.
