The PG02 is a good ship…against 1.0 BR enemies facing strictly front on towards you and not dodging. It was very OP back in the day but no longer, with the extremely low damage, light chassis that is extremely vulnerable to waves, high profile, and extremely fast jamming rate.
Against anything else, it falls short, because it demands constant, precise tracking. So what is the problem here? Weighing 63 tons, it literally throws itself firing the cannon.
Because damaging stuff in the game is generalized and abstract (hitting a ship bridge in real life, could mean tearing a calendar off, or wiping out the crews, is represented by yellow/red/black color code in game) so that leave room for artifical balancing in terms of damage.
But the M61 is artifically nerfed unrealistically, especially when the JM61 is based on the M61A1. I have tested on two different planes and compared it with the boat.
Test result: JM61A1 on F-15J(M) (940 rounds full, 691 rounds fired without jam)
M61A1 on F-104J (750 rounds full, 664 rounds fired without jam)
JM61 (3000 rounds full, 190 rounds fired without jam)
Did you remove M61 modification on PG02? It drasticly reduces fire rate
The fast jam speed (which btw is still long enough to entirely kill a single one of most of the boats it’ll face) is the only thing keeping the bloody thing even remotely balanced
Besides the guy above who mentioned that it could be a balancing factor, it could also be a manufacturer-set limitation since jets get a lot more cooling from moving through the air (which is also colder). As for why the sea-level performance of jet M61s, it could be that Gaijin hasn’t implemented altitude-based gun jamming (but that’s just a guess).
No. Waves keep it balanced. If you actually played it you’d know that it cannot actually compete with boats armed with 40mm guns at any reasonable range (1km more or less). This is concering because many of these boats are lower in BR.
Then compare this with the Soviet 30mm AK-230 that did not get nerfed. It can delete boats under a second, while the PG 02 have to wait for cooldown, then fire again. That takes few seconds.
I’m actually fine with the damage nerf, but actually make it less jammy so it can at least do some damage to the coastal “battleships” like Arras and others.
The 30mm AK-630 jams less than the JM61. I can fire 270 rounds from AK-630 vs 190 rounds from JM61. Tested on test drive. (fortunatley for the Soviet boat there’s no autocannon modification and you can access it right away). This is a sign something is wrong, and it is certainly not balanced. (see my post above)
It is also the Historical fire rate.
