Type 74 speed and acceleration

Hello,

So I generally have a community question as well as a potential discussion about the acceleration and speed of the Type 74. This would affect the Model C, E, F and Red Star as they are all the same weight of 38.0 tons with an engine producing 870 horsepower at 2200 RPMs. The G Model can be discussed as well, but because of the different transmission, I don’t know how that will affect things.

So, I did a quick test by myself. I have noticed in matches that tanks like the Leopard A1A1 which weighs in at 42.4 tons and has an engine that produces 830 horsepower at 2200 RPMs generally feels like that tank accelerates faster. I took both tanks into a custom on Berlin, and lined them up on the same stretch of road and had them empty their shells, so that carry capacity wasn’t a big factor. They tied the race. I checked three more times to confirm.

Shouldn’t the Type 74 generally be the faster vehicle? I understand in a long run the leopard has a higher top speed, but any short sprints should easily go to the Type 74 seeing as it has a stronger engine and weighs 4.2 tons lighter.

I’m not sure if there is something inherent about the design of the Type 74 that makes its slower, but it should be one of the faster MBTs at 8.3, and competitive at 9.0. I understand there are definitely faster MBTs at 9.0 like the OF-40 and XM-1 Chrysler, etc.

I mean the Type 74 is already over performing engine wise in the game, back in 2019/2020? It had the real HP output which was 750 HP, and it was god awful slow to get anywhere but at one point(I took a break from WT) they increased the HP of the engine in the Type 61 and Type 74 to make them more mobile and compensate the transmission mechanics of WT, I don’t think they will buff the mobility even more

That is real net output, so engine power with things such as cooling taken out. This is how power is most commonly listed for the Type 74 and most other Japanese tanks.

But in game every tank uses (or at least is intended to use) gross HP output, so the full power the engine can generate. This is higher, and where those added 120hp come from.
