So what br do you guys think it should be, instead of 7.7.
If it stays should it have some things removed, ie lsr or the thermals. One or the other, or both?
Seems fine at 7.7, haven’t had much of an issue, still dies in 1 shot like any other artillery piece.
Tbh the only big issue i have is the thermal lsr range combo at 7.7
It is comparable to the SK-105 so it should be 8.7.
Supposedly IRL it has gen 3 thermals and in-game it has gen 2 according to people I’ve talked to who play it.
Personally, I find its really strong with the combination of high caliber HE, HE proxy, thermals of any kind, and laser range finder (LRF)
it also seems to have really good performance on the battlefield in the mobility department, like were talking MBT level performance speeds.
I feel like it should definitely receive a more modern BR just because it performs so much more like a modern vehicle, at the moment it feels like it just slaps everything and will continue to do so post that new weird vehicle phase where people don’t know how to fight it.
Genuinely think it would withstand the fires of higher tiers and be fine, its got that giga HE so it can fight up to top tier if you want to be goofy with a friend. Definitely too good to just be 1.0 br above the type 75 SPH, which only shares the shell types and none of the performance or utility.
I get why it has it, artillery vehicles are notoriously terrible in this game, and this alongside the Bkan 1C are some of the few good ones, I think it’s fine because it’s strong and fills a niche that would otherwise go unfilled as a long distance HE slinger, if anything it’s to balance it against autocannon/ATGM ifvs, albeit they took a pretty big hit since the missile physics rework and I’d prefer if they actually stabilized at distance and the dip wasn’t as bad.
They hyped up their so called “road-map” with the intention of trying to separate WW2 from modern, and yet here we have yet another modern vehicle that faces WW2 tanks in down-tiers.
It’s just another shitty marketing strategy, by deliberately placing it low enough that it will create enough interest and therefore sell more.
it would be fine going to 8.7 or even 9.3. I’ve watched them drop nukes at 11.7, so I assure you that I’m being generous with where I’d put it.
It should go up to at least 8.3 if not 8.7, the thing lost nothing at 7.7 with thermals and with the HE shell it has. Thermals and a laser range finder allows it to chuck this said shell across the map on 6.7 players that could never see that thing even if they had 20/20 vision.
And like most artillery pieces it people are taking it out to 11.7 games, and unlike most of those artillery pieces, the VIDAR performs exceptionally well compared to them, because of the better HE shell and the mentioned laser range finder and thermals combo.
The VIDAR will not lose anything if it is moved up a whole BR, but the guys at 6.7, 7.0 & 7.3 will get a breather from this modern thing wrecking their fun from across the map.
Yeah, it really ought to be higher even though HE still doesn’t work right. I’d say move it up to 8.3 to see how it does, first.
Definitely, my sentiments exactly. I’ve been doing a lot of 11.0 for the current event and I cannot describe how many people are using VIDAR’s for the up-tier kill medal SL farm + 500% booster strategy. It is way more capable at hiding and defending itself than a lot of the derp cannons which tend to spider-hole in an alley and wait, meaning on average despite not getting consistent god-mode medals they usually earn more SL because of premium and the volume of “Skill Matters” medals.
8.3 minimum can easily be 8.7
The vidar is overpowered for it br. I see Vidar squad are being created by guild just to play RB.
Gaijin’s choice to undertier premium vehicles as FOMO for buyers who fully understand it will be raised to a higher BR is the most disgusting manifestation of greed they have yet shown as developers.
only that balancing an artillery vehicle aroudn the fact how well it can engage in a 1v1 versus medium tanks/MBT’s makes absolutely no sense, since thats not what the vehicle is designed for.
i see vidars regularly dominate in 8.7 and above, because they are just that good.
LRF, thermals, fast reload, strong HE, extremely good mobility as well as good gun handling and that combined with the fact of all around (even the rooftop) 35mm armor which means it cant even be touched by 20mm cannons from aircraft in 90° topdown attacks, makes this thing extremely strong.
it had no place at 7.7 and it still has no place at 8.0 right now.
should be at least 8.7 but rather 9.0/9.3.
It doesn’t have a two plane stabilizer and its armor is good but doesn’t stand up to auto cannon fire.
It should be 8.3 / 8.7
i disagree.
the french AMX-30’s sit at 8.7 with no stabilizer too and they have weaker turret roof-armor, a longer reload and less one-shot capability then the vidar.
also the vidar can infact withstand 20mm auto-cannon fire frontally from above 200meters, unless its 20mm APDS.
even the stock 30mm SAP rounds of the warrior cant penetrate the front of the vidar from above 200 meters.
it would be absolutely fine at 9.0 in my opinion, it still has its amazing performance and not having a stabilizer isnt as much of a problem if you can sit so far back with it.
Yes that’s exactly why I think it should go no higher.
No stabilizer, good firepower, LRF, Thermals, good mobility, decent armor.
They’re the same tank but one shoots APFSDS and one shoots HE.
Ignoring the AMX30’s 20mm coax means we can ignore the Vidar’s Gen 2 Thermals.
only that the vidar cant be touched by planes with less then 30mm cannons, even in topdown while the AMX30’s are weak even to 50cal AP shells from topdown.
and ignoring the fact that gen 2 thermals are much more useful then the coax 20mm of the AMX30’s, because those are situational, the gen 2 thermals work all the time, coupled with the LRF’s.
After several weeks of the vidar being in game cemented at its br, and having to fight it throughout those weeks, I feel that my opinion made in the original statement remains the same and is accurate to the VIDAR’s existence.
