What do u actually do in a high tier zero? I remember them being not really that good in 2015ish when almost all the time u could not catch anything… and triying to kill a b29 in a a6m5 was gambling…
Nowadays the only nostalgy i have is with the very early zero’s, and in 5.0 its just… climb a bit and wait for your adhd to trigger and get u into energy trap… also wtf is with a7m being 5.3 while a6m reaching the 5.0…
Zeros are essentially guillotines if you ever find your self below them. They have high rip speeds and can manage being just fast enough to remain in gun range while you ever so slowly extend away from them. Make no mistake, using the P-51 as an example, there is nothing you can do in this situation besides praying that they have such bad aim that they miss every single shot in a 20+ second firing window.
There is no maneuver to get out of that, they will pull into any turn and will happily pull 12Gs to start landing hits. I find this quite ridiculous and zeros having their historical compression would do wonders for some measure of counterplay.
Also, zero players who have some modicum of energy management can make themselves very annoying where hitting them is more down to luck than skill. Especially since fires are the least damaging on zeros for some reason. It requires a stupendous amount of effort to bag a A6M who knows a bit more to their plane than hold S.
I do recognize that they are essentially ‘rat’ planes and requires certain circumstances to make up for their slow top speed. But these circumstances go beyond some random US pilot getting into a slow speed dogfight where they should be punished. They have plenty of tools at their disposal with just a bit of altitude and a broken flight model.
EDIT: can I also mention that most advice against a zero is passive as hell that requires the other player to get bored?
Zero FM won’t be so annoying if Ho-103 wasn’t over performing. Right now Ho-103 just outclass every 20mm plane gun in this game even THE M61A1 where sometimes 2 second burst just crit someone while 1 tap from Ho-13 disintegrate literally anything that comes in contact with it.
Nerf the gun, not the FM. It’s the only good thing about that plane apart from the over performing gun since it can’t accel beyond mid 500 kmh.
it is type 99, I got the 12.7 and 20mm gun mixed at times, haven’t been playing low tier for quite some times, mb.
But I played like 500 games in this plane since it was still 4.7. It’s a very restricted plane when you’re almost going to fight against Yak-3U, Ta-152 and Mustang H. I am always gambling on the fact that they are stupid and will make mistake that I can capitalize, and be graced with good patch for type 99.
Lucky for me those idiots always seems to underestimate me every single time and almost always exclusively try to turn fight me. Their idiocy doesn’t constitute BR raise in my book. Just normalise the gun.
Bullshit. It one shot everything. Hispano in spit that I flew just yesterday doesn’t have the same kind of punch, nor does Shvak that I use 3 day ago on Yak 3 early. They just doesn’t have the same oomph like Type 99.
Speaking of which is MG-151 on a bad state these days?
They don’t oneshot everything. They SOMETIMES oneshot people, most of the time you’ll do good damage but their wings are still attached. Hispanos and AN/M2s will just nuke you with their powerful HEI and SAP-I shells. ShVAKs have much higher RoF and can simply put more shots into the enemy.
Hispano HEI (600rpm)
Hispano SAP-I (600rpm)
AN/M2 HEF-I (600 rpm)
Type 99-2 HEF (490rpm)
Type 99-1 HEF (516rpm)
ShVAK FI-T (800rpm)
MG151/20 HEI - damage looks good but ballistics are HORRIBLE and it has about as much range as the short barreled Type 99-1s (700rpm)
I’ve been on break for like half a year and I just got into WT last month, and I can definitely feels Type 99 hitting still as hard as it was 1 year ago. idk maybe its just me but i feel like this gun really oveperform because out of all guns this is the one that consistently one tap for me.
Then IDK, aim better I suppose. They do less damage, have less range and velocity, and have lower RPM than any cannon listed here.
The Type 99-1s are literally copies of the Oerlikon FF which you will find on low tier 109s, the Type 99-2 simply extends the barrel for higher velocity.
Aim better? idk about you but even a burst of 4 hispano doesn’t hit as hard as Type 99. Genuinely I don’t need to aim to make type 99 work, I just need it to hit once. and it has been like that since about 1 year ago.
Most of the 20mm Type 99 gun ammo belt is primarily composed of HEF, with tracers containing 100% HEF-T
The Hispanos belt almost always tries to squeeze in the the questionable SAP-I shell, even for air targets. So for snap shots theres a good chance of the shell doing the hitting is the SAP or tracer shell which do almost no damage when hitting a target.
That most likely explain why the Type 99 ‘hits’ harder for you, you’re almost always shooting the optimum shell for demolishing air targets.
There’s a lot of slander against US mains ITT so I need to say:
I played China air on release before Air RB became slop, most games were USSR+CN vs Japan on Zhengzhou and Yak-3s and La-7s were just as happy as P-47/51 pilots to start turnfighting Zeroes.
I was there when German pilots fought Japanese pilots for the first time in air RB. 109s and 190s werehappily dogfighting themselves against zeros and suddenly the superior German pilot was nothing more than a myth.
HEF-T actually does less damage than HEF, so on Type 99-equipped planes you’re better off with Universal since it has more HEF. The APHE shell will usually fuse on aircraft skin and deal more damage than either HE shell.
