A6M6 might as well be a free kill. Lead em up in the vertical with enough energy on your end and if they follow, they’re dead.
Make every US main stop turn fighting it
Yes, but that’s what the Zero should be good at. Punishing inexperienced pilots who stick a fight with it for too long. What I’m suggesting is just an extra option for counterplay.
A Zero has Zero speed, it’s basically a stationary target that can only shoot at you if you let it.
The A6M6c is certainly over tiered. It had a lot of extra armour weight but no power increase and consequently loses energy a lot faster in tight manoeuvres than other variants.
It still makes a decent bomber killer, and a secondary ground attacker, but for fighter v fighter it’s lacking. It’s premium status however means it will likely always be the last to have it’s BR changed even if it desperately needs it.
That would be true, with the exception of the A6M5 and A6M5 Ko. Because if they happen to have the energy advantage, and you’ve just finished climbing back up to alt, you’re done. Diving away ain’t an option, especially with the -Ko and it’s 470MPH rip speed.
I doubt you’ve played it much in ARB, though. Just judging by your stats in the thing.
I see “zero” problem here 😉
Spoiler
I’m going to go sit in the shame corner for that one…😞
I have 300 battles in it, seems fine.
And if another plane has energy advantage you generally lose, that goes for a lot of planes, and it’s not like the Zero is fast climber either.
You’d think so, but this wouldn’t change much.
According to the guys at Planes of Fame, which do have an A6M5 that was restored with the help of Jiro Horikoshi himself, the Zero only starts being limited in turn past ~280mph.
280mph is right about 450kph, and any Zero isn’t gonna be at that speed for very long with their weak 1100hp engines.
Sure, it’ll be worse in a dive than it is now, but all he has to do is pull back up, let you throw away your altitude, and re-commit a bit later. Or go after someone else now that you’re not a threat anymore.
I’d still like to see this change, but personally from all the times I fly the Zeros out, I rarely get a turnfight at 450kph+ that is so close that this nerf would actually make a big change in how I play them.
You know why they call it the Zero right?
😏
Because that’s it’s turn time?
It’s the amount of successful landings it’s made.
Lol. They we’re too busy crashing into poor innocent boats
👍🏼
If it was team of Japanese team vs. other nations, the BRs wouldn’t look like that.
However with mixed battles, you don’t need a plane to do everything well, since you have an entire team of planes that are good at different things.
A Zero might be bad on it’s own but it can be effective in team when it actively denies the enemy team to start turning.
It’s much easier to deal with two identical planes then when they have both different strenghts,
since outplaying one aircraft doesn’t necessarily do the same with the other.
The same happened with ground battles at times when it was like 3-4 nations vs. full German teams.
Unless you got a long range map where German armor and guns where practically untouchable, the different strenghts of mixed nations could easily outplay German teams that always consisted of the same vehicles.
Back when it was Japan vs US they would dominate because US players keep spawning ground strikers and other random useless things whilst Japan has nothing of value to spawn but a full team of Zeros, add in that they still try to turn fight a team of Zeros they would get stomped on consistently.
The MM was also restricted back then and not open like it is know.
Zero is definitely overperforming during a dive, not the speed limit nor the acceleration, they should be suffering from a control stiffness. It should be scripted, or otherwise zero should not suffer from it linearly, since its control stiffness is tied to the wings bending. The control stiffness should be a non-linear effect only affecting the plane past 460~470kph. Completely off-topic but it’s weird A6M2 doesn’t have the historical 250kg bomb, they literally said they would added one, claimed they did in the patch note, but ended up giving the same bombload for A6M5 or A6M3 whatsoever.
This is even worse if you want to do some CAS as your only option in A6M3s and A6M2s is 60kg bombs. 250kgs are only available on A6M5s.
I want to see this, but I think it won’t reduce their BR at all and 99% of the time won’t even affect gameplay.
What do u actually do in a high tier zero? I remember them being not really that good in 2015ish when almost all the time u could not catch anything… and triying to kill a b29 in a a6m5 was gambling…
Nowadays the only nostalgy i have is with the very early zero’s, and in 5.0 its just… climb a bit and wait for your adhd to trigger and get u into energy trap… also wtf is with a7m being 5.3 while a6m reaching the 5.0…
