The state of ground RB (2025)

I wanna vent my frustration with this gamemode and what it has evolved into throughout the years. This topic will be mostly relevant to higher BR’s such as 8.7 and beyond.

Map Design
I wanna begin by raising the question of what the hell these maps are… It feels like each map can be sorted into one of two categories. The first being a quake arena or call of duty map where its all run and gun, Corner camping and generally plays like a fps game. The other style being extremely long range maps where theres 0 cover in the spawns leading to spawncamp fiestas every game

The new AA’s
Playing the new AA’s such as IRIS SLM or Spyder is close to impossible when the spawn isnt even a safe area and now you are gonna add even more of them with the Buk m3, Skysabre and SAMP… Gaijin has to make the maps suited for top tier because i cant believe its 2025 and we are playing the same maps at 1.0 as we do at 13.0… Even after 10+ years of the gamemode being out.

The gamemode
The gamemode of solely capturing flags has become extremely dull, We really have been playing the same gamemode for 10 years now and theres never any experimenting with new modes or even a mention of it from the devs? Why?

The one-death quitting
This issue is caused by 2 major problems. The first being straight up selling top tier premiums to players who installed the game 10 minutes ago and the map design literally promote snowballing and spawncamping. I wish gaijin would include a permanent backup on every premium vehicle to encourage players to stay in the battle for longer

State of ground RB in 2025 - pretty damn good, if you use lineups you enjoy, that contain vehicles suited for each variation of the maps you’ve been given. One death leaving is a real issue. I try avoid BRs that are heavily populated by low levels in high tier premiums. For example, I opt for 9.0, over 10.3.

What does this even mean? No modern tank is meant to fight in a tight corridor town designed for low tier tanks… Why should i have to play a map like this with modern tanks? If i wanted to play an arena shooter i would go play quake not war thunder…?

War Thunder =! Real life.

The map you’ve shown is one of my favourites in the whole game.

Maybe this just isn’t the game for you?

pretty much already happen in real life… how do you think tank go through citys or capture city.

This is just gaslighting, I have played the game since 2015 and its gotten noticebly faster and faster since we went into modern vehicles. Gaijin should adapt to this by making the maps bigger so games are not over in 4 minutes :)

This is you thinking everyone thinks the same as you, they don’t. I like city maps - low tier, high tier, whatever.

Didn’t know COD maps were large with 20+ flanking routes with little camping.
People prefer closer maps because they offer dozens of flanking routes, while adding more weakpots to heavily armored tanks like heavy tanks, T-90M, and Strv 122.

Long range maps by definition will have less flanking routes because in order to get those long ranges you need… open space, clear sightlines.

PVP game modes are either TDM, domination, or elimination; anything else requires it to be an infantry game or PVE game modes which requires a new AI.

Guess WW2 veterans were just lying about their urban combat using their Panzer IVs, Tigers, Shermans, Pershings, and so forth. /s
TUSK, ERA, etc exist because tanks operate in urban environments. That’s quite literally one of their purposes. MBTs are an all-purpose tank for close to long ranges. Urban operations IRL require infantry to counter enemy infantry, but with the lack of infantry in War Thunder infantry isn’t needed for your side either.

Games get faster the more skilled players get in a video game.

So you enjoy the 4-5 minute matches with awful RP gains? Interesting…

City maps do not mean small RP gains at all. Maybe for you.

This topic is just bad faith arguments after another. Muting this whine topic.

Forget it, gaijin isn’t going to solve anything, because if the state of the game meant players had to pay less, they would have improved it years ago. If they haven’t done it, it’s because that’s how they make money, and making money while working little is the best way to go.

People also seem to prefer the tiny maps so perhaps they are just afraid of change

More like 10 minutes and gain over 5k RP. The reason people either hate it is because they can’t do great in smaller maps. They only know how to camp and snipe on big maps. Which you are not able to do in small maps…

I remind you that in the vote that was held to see if players wanted to “test” giving APHEs correct damage, the majority of people voted No.

Good point actually lmao

pretty damn good? have you seen the rewards? at toptier ive been given 2000 rp for getting 7 kills. that is quite literally mind boggling

Can’t really play the Pantsir in this tiny map. Just got it today and love it but…tiny maps at top tier is a no for me.

Such a small area for any modern SAM system…fast CQC paced games. CAS can just focus all ammunitions towards this area.

Yea…no, this ain’t it…

Maps need improvements for newer SAM systems and has to be large. Some current maps are manageable for 10.7 SPAAs and below, but definitely not for 12.0 Br+

Ex: Use the already existing maps and enlarge them for top tier…

Easy to improve

Real talk: can we just find a way to prevent 95% of players from staying on the 2 line?

That would make that map 10x better.

No it doesn’t, not like in WT. Tanks go through the city only with infantry support and infantry being right beside them or ahead of them. Tanks don’t capture city, infantry does or mechanised infantry if you want to include some armor.

JNA tried it in 1991. in Vukovar and Trpinjska cesta (road) soon became tank graveyard.

Russians tried full armor assault in 1994. on Grozny and it was utter failure with heavy losses as Chechen infantry unleashed hell on armor column trapped inside the city.

Tanks (especially moderm MBTS) are long range standoff weapons which try to avoid close engagements at any costs.

Show us where in War Thunder that infantry exist to warrant the necessity of infantry going in with tanks.

The exclusive reason infantry go with tanks is to deal with infantry. Without enemy infantry, infantry with tanks is not necessary.

Tanks are not “long range standoff weapons”, they are tools used at all ranges in all situations.
I trust militaries over your post.
