Its been relevant since the introduction of M1. Its been top 2 since introduction of 2A7V easily, and post basket arguably better than 2A7V due to higher skill ceiling.
Learn to play w/o horizontal and it will help you in every tank.

Higher skill ceiling doesn’t make a vehicle better.
What makes a vehicle better is its performance on the hands of the vast majority of perfectly average players; not the few theorical maximum performance top players.
Otherwise according to that logic Ariete AMV is better than Leopard 2A7V, since “it has a higher ceiling thanks to its faster reload and better mobility”.

Eh not really, it does eat some but only in scenarios where if it wasn’t there it wouldn’t have affected the outcome anyway.
Send me a clip post ammo-fix a few years back and i’ll be baffled.
What i have noticed is the goobers taking low amounts of ammo to increase surv, but if you know that ammo fills first below commander you can negate that.

A Type 10 cannot peek a ridgeline like an Abrams can, and if it gets hit it will just die, an Abrams or Leo in the same situation will shrug off the round then reverse into cover and repair

Can Ariete tank a hit to the turret? No.
Abrams’ advantages over Leo are plenty, and Leo does have a few over Abrams as well.
But the difference between Abrams and other 5s competitors is what they sacrifice for it. The only real flaw of Abrams on live rn is just the turret ring being susceptible to autocannons.
Aside from that, its got a great turret, good crew count, amazing ammo count, utility rounds, fantastic APFSDS shell, ESS, good side prot against autocannons, amazing mobility, great reverse/gun angles/gun handling, very snappy chassis, among others. If you compare other 5s-mobiles to this none of them have all of this.

Got completely lost looking into it a little more.

I saw something that the armor weight of the CATTB is the same as M1A1HC. Found it hard to believe considering the CATTB hull weighs like 18 more tons than an M1A2 hull, maybe I have the weight of M1A2 hull wrong. Guess that answers the hull armor though, it’s really quite strange proportionally however. This would mean the effectiveness of CATTB hull is roughly 500mm or something along those lines, yet with the 50” armor package on the turret, effectiveness is like 1016mm? Hull down monster.

Why are we derailing this thread in an argument about whether the M1 is even good or not? Go have that conversation somewhere else. The hull armor argument has nothing to do with whether it needs the buff or not, it is the argument that if it had something in real life, it should in game.

it can be more annoying in abrams than other mbts because the fake hydraulic pump also breaks vertical drive if their shot is anywhere near your left side
The fact that they said all the weight went into the turret is just beyond ridiculous. ATP they should just say right out, that they just don’t wanna buff it. Not just ignore properly made bug reports. I’m not saying it is right, I also want the Abrams to get proper amrour. But if that bug report doesn’t go through, it just shows all of our effort is for nothing and big reports to vehicle historical accuracy doesn’t matter as long as it isn’t in their personal interest.

also as you said immense thanks and good luck to @Hike_DK and his team, they are bug reporting the crap outta the SepV3 to a hopeful decent addition to US and GB trees
(and i say this as someone who will never play the SepV3, the only benefit i get is the fixes to M1A2T)
