I agree that the Kh-38 kicked off this dysfunctional arms race for ground-attack weapons, but now there’s nothing for it but to deal with the consequences. Because now the Russians are getting an air-defence system that neutralises the CAS they previously couldn’t stop, tomorrow, the NATO side will get something else that will then force Gaijin to introduce a new air-defence system into the mix. It’s that never-ending war.
Tell me about it, now they’re adding the “proposed but not fitted radar” in order to justify keeping it there. Gaijin really can’t stay consistent with prototype vehicles.
Prototype A, D, G gets structural steel armour because it wasn’t built with armour grade steel.
Prototype B, C, E gets RHA/cast steel armour because even though it wasn’t built with armour grade steel it would have been if it reached production.
Prototype F gets structural steel standoff armour because the actual composite array wasn’t fitted but gets APFSDS that couldn’t fit in the prototype.
Which again is fine if everyone has that capability.
But they dont. NATO have their best systems IRIS-T yet they are so poorly modelled.
Pantsir SV will stop being the best SAM if Gaijin ever fix the lofting and tracking profiles.
To be fair, the new Pantsir is entirely Gaijins fault
They added it because according to their own data the Buk wasn’t performing well and they thought the USSR tree needed something better
The problem that led to this was the communities fault tho, as people were constantly asking for FnF ATGMs in helicopters and longer ranged A2G weapons on planes
Well, part of the community did. They happened to ignore us that were screaming for better SPAA even before they added FnF helis until it was basically already a lost race.
Fixing problems of the existing anti air would have been enough in many cases, but Skyrangers (and maybe the two Phalanx trucks) certainly wouldn’t have hurt the game balance
But yeah, the anti air side already was the weaker one before the new FnF helis were added. The helis just delivered the final blow.
The worst thing about this is that the introduction of the “long” range SAMs could have been enough to counter the Kh-38 while still leaving room for all CAS to work
I was referring to problems like missing features and bad performance because of bugs, bad implementation or lack of features
While I like the idea of giving anti air more protected spawn areas, I don’t think that would be a good thing in-game, at least not for the current anti air vehicles
I’ve always felt like there should be some AI anti air emplacements that could be controlled by players after they run out of spawn points, but it’s hard to balance something like that
Something else that I had hoped for when Gaijin brought up the idea of objects that could be built/deployed by players was gun emplacements that could be set up by IFVs, but sadly the building feature ended up only being ammo boxes and nothing else
There certainly are many things that Gaijin could do to improve the CAS v AA situation (and the game in general), but they just don’t really do anything in that regard
Before the multi-vehicle SAMS. The Pantsir S-1 was the best SPAA at the time of Gaijin post and they said it was underwhelming compared to what CAS was getting.
No dude, don’t ask me if Gaijin had Russian bots make it to the forum, this adds nothing to the conversation.
I’m simply stating things for how they are and what’s led up to this point.
If people actually cared about this game, we’d stop asking for new content and start asking to fix core game design issues that will allow for new content to be better played.
Asking me if I’m a Russian bot brings literally nothing to the conversation.
The SAM systems aren’t neccessarily as gimped as you think they may be, they still function very well given the right circumstances. They just don’t stand a chance in most cases because someone in a plane is already close enough to the battlefield to challenge them.
The Pantsir S-1 at one point had no drawbacks except that a single CAS plane could run it dry of missles (or helicopter) in one volley, which is why again Gaijin referred it to being in a weak state iin the previous image I posted.
