Its common knowlage that gaijin only cares about the money they make from new players buying a premium but its just getting to an unbreable point now. They stopped caring for veterans and people who actually like war thunder entirely. They are just trying to cater to the wallet warriors that have the attention span of a goldfish as much as possible. First the stupid hotbar that shows you the most basic of controls (the gear etc) and now almost 90% of all air rb maps have an airspawn (as of 2.47.0.55). These changes are made just so wallet warriors don’t crash on takeoff and don’t get bored after a whopping 2 minutes of getting to the battle. The maps were already too small but just so gaijin could make the life of those kids who had their attention span ruined by youtube shorts they gave us airspawns. Now games last on average 5-7 minutes. Please put a stop to this.
Players have been asking for multiple airfields for years, and this is the consequence of those requests.
Airspawn is in direct response to player demands.
“Wallet warriors” don’t need air spawn, and in-fact their aircraft are “nerfed” from air spawns.
128x128km is not small.
it is definitely on the smaller side and airspawns make it worse since you don’t waste time getting up to speed. Games just end too quickly now bc you get in range 2-3 mins in
Its good change in the right direction
i dont see the correlation
it would be if the maps werent so damn small.
Dunno about jets in specific, but a reason 128x128 feels so small comes down to objective design.
Allow me to present two 128x128 maps:
Smolensk in Air simulator battles:
Vietnam is Air realistic battles:
They’re the same absolute size, and even accounting for the fact that I’m flying late-war props on smolensk and early vietnam jets for Vietnam - the issue is self-evident.
Look at the spread of bases to bomb. Look at the location of objectives. Look at the motivation to fill the entire width of the map. Look at the multiple airfields and so on and so forth.
On ASB Smolensk, you put the full 128 kilometer width to use.
On ARB Vietnam, you fight in a ~36-48 kilometer wide column at best.
for sake of clarity, I agree with you that ARB maps suck.
I’m just highlighting a non-obvious cause of their terrible quality that’s not raw size but motivations and pressures to spread the players out across the whole width of the map being absent.
We have been begging for bigger maps for years and they give us a change that makes the maps faster to traverse (basically makes them smaller)
That is entirely relative.
is it too small for a Korean era subsonic jet? No, its actually quite a decently sized map
Is it too small for a modern mach 2 capable Gen 4.5 jet? Absolutely,. they can traverse that distance in 3-4 minutes and thats just assuming there is A) nothing coming from the other direction and B) they arent using 30+km weapons
not that its a bad idea, but since everything in this game is poorly implemented, they simply put it in the game to make matches increasingly generic, automating the game for the guy who doesnt want to think too much…
In air EC you have multiple lives so you can spawn wherever and if you chose incorrectly that’s okay cause you can just respawn.
However, in random battles with one life, the team that spawns together wins. It’s a tactical fact.
So you cannot allow in a one-life game mode multiple choice spawns or you give blatant advantage to squads over standard players.
I agree, there was no point in having air spawns, and that is what happens when you have “fighter purists” demanding air spawns just so they could “get to the action” faster and zombers who just want to get to the bases faster. Now the “Premium BRs” are littered with MiG 23ML and F-4S crashing one minute in right after they bomb.
You’re complaining about air spawns, okay man, that’s overboard. The rest I agree with, but hating on air spawns to speed up gameplay, which therefore speeds up research is crazy.
I cannot wait to see how half my team dies in the first 2 minutes of the game, but now i have the opportunity to see them die in the first minute!
(I swear to god i am losing my shit bc of teams lately)
