The Leclerc is in dire need of a buff

Back to shard as possibility,
While it did finish development now and has been shown of on leopards.
The implementation is questionable. Specialy since its a telescope round of a main caliber round.
It doesnt necesarily need to work as well as it does for smaller caliber /medium rounds.

Correct me if i am wrong, but we do not have better statements regarding the penetration values of the shard yet do we? besides the vague early development ones.

I am all for its addition, since its apparantly finished now, but how just would be the big question.
since gajin hates the % based statements as well

No it isn’t ? You are mistaking it with rounds for ASCALON and even ASCALON can handle standard nato rounds.

fair enough to that part then, had sth confused there then.

Shard is still a regular round. Only Ascalon is able to use semi-telescopic rounds, although it can also use regular rounds as well.

Ascalon also doesn’t use telescopic rounds :

  • telescopic is apparently trademarked by CTA, and Nexter’s Ascalon is a separate development (though CTA is half owned by nexter)
  • the tip of the APFSDS sticks out of the round, albeit much less than the regular counterparts

I am not clear on whether this semi telescopic road goes to the other side of the casing or if there’s still a bit of powder in the back of the charge.
However, it should still allow for smaller overall rounds while keeping the same energy output. For the CTA40, it’s about a 30% benefit. Maybe it’s less for the Ascalon, but I still expect it to be better.

Unfortunately, I had submitted a bug report regarding the upper glacis plate (UFP) and the lack of additional armor on the S3; Gaijin was likely concerned about making the Leclerc too powerful.

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/3OYYIJZ3sync

Oh only three years.

I dont understand how it would be too powerful with a proper ufp when you can easily one shot it through the massive mantlet, it would just be closer to the type 10, which is far from op…

With adequate volumetric armor on the upper glacis and thicker armor on the S3, it would be much harder to destroy

Lfp and mantlet weakspot will still exist so not really.

The Leclerc’s UFP is bugged; it was never fixed—just look at it compared to the MSC

Buddy I’ve been playing with Leclerc’s for years, I know how Leclerc’s armor’s are broken (not in good way).

The thing is this has nothing to do with what I’ve said, you can make ufp immune to any shells yet Leclerc will still not be hard nut to crack due to having big lfp and mantlet weakspot.

Tho average person will get surprised.

Of course, I agree with you, but that’s still something extra for us; then we just have to prove that the Leclerc’s gun mantlet is armored, if we can.

Well good luck with that considering they haven’t took any action when it comes to hull armor.

I remember back in days when they were about add SXXI they had the audicty to claim new turret armor didn’t provide better KE performance, this is the type of people you need to deal with :)

Anyway, regarding the OFL 120 F2, I didn’t remember quite right what wa said. I said it had the same pen as the F1 at 2500m instead of 1500m, but sadly the report doesn’t actually say the range difference, only that the pen is higher at “much longer range”

And yet, the Leclerc SXXI does indeed have tougher armor than its predecessor; I have the proof right here in the bug report I filed 4 years ago.

I know it does have but when it was first announced Gaijin claimed otherwise.

The only things Type 10 could get is NATO standard rounds such as SHARD, and anything else that is within Type 10’s breech pressures. DM43 probably as a stock round.

For Leclerc… partly why I want SHARD on Leclercs is it’ll bring Leclercs up to probably 12.7 standards in offensive armament.

Yep, I saw it when I was at the ES, but I appreciate this message :):)

Lol, when I saw the thumbnail from afar, I wondered : “why is he posting a Centurion video ?”

Looking at it more closely now, with that slender turret, massive gun and elongated back, it almost looks like a 21st century Surbaissé.
